I used an already existing character sheet as reference for making my own model for the player and made all the other assets myself

Nice short game! At first it was hard to tell what I was supposed to do. Then I saw there was an axe attack. The animation doesn't really look like an axe swing animation, but it works. I found that if you just walk all the way up to the tree they can't hurt you and one hit from your axe and they're dead. So I got bored after a ten or twenty and quit. The game was so simple, I wonder if adding another mechanic or making the trees move faster or changing something after a while could have helped? Also, if you walked to the edges you got stuck. Anyway, well done!
Thanks for trying my game! Yeah the axe animation I had to give up on making look better because I was running out of time to make the rest of the game. I hadn't ever animated a character before, so I think my animations are pretty good for a first try. I had plans to add more tree variations including ones that throw projectiles and that move faster, but didn't have enough time to do it.
Yeah, it’s always hard to predict how long something is going to take. One jam I spent a day trying to get 2D lighting working. The day after the jam I started a new Unity project and in that template it was enabled by default. Sigh.
The artwork is captivating, and the mechanics are fantastic, making this game a truly unique experience. A fun challenge that kept me hooked. Awesome job!
Thanks for trying my game! Glad you liked it.
Need some sort of visual feedback to tell the player if they are hitting the tree or not. Good job on submitting an entry!
Yeah that would be a good idea to add that. Thanks for trying my game! I tried out your game and it was my favorite out of the ones I tried, so good job for your entry as well!
Thanks for the kind words. I think it’s awesome that you are still trying games after the jam is over. A lot of folks just don’t care afterwards.
Seems like the playability could use some work, but it looks like you put lots of effort into the models, and you can only do so much in a jam. Oh, and I thought the premise was awesome :D Good work!
Thanks for trying my game! Glad you liked my idea. Yeah the playability really needs work lol. Didn't have much time and a lot of the stuff it was my first time doing it.
Might be a skill issue, but I couldn't get her to chop any trees! The models look great though, and I always appreciate a female protagonist. Nice work!
Thanks for trying out my game! I'm glad you like the models. I spent a lot of time on them maybe more than I should've lol. It isn't a skill issue, the controls are finicky because I ran out of time. I think made the hit boxes too small I think. It's possible to do but you have to get really close and be facing the right direction.
I'm not controlling Jane well. Then I noticed that she is having her back face the trees from the start. Hard to reorientate her but that also isn't chopping the trees when left click is used. But congrats on submitting a solo game!
Thanks for trying my game! I agree the controls have some issues, but I ran out of time to work on them more. Also I think I made the hit box for the axe a bit too small so that could contribute to the trees being difficult to chop.
I like the tree attack mechanics but the player moves a little too fast and seems to get stuck sometimes (or I can't swing when moving). I couldn't get much further than 10 trees or so, thus I don't know if it gets harder or if there's more content further in the game.
Good solo effort for the jam!
Thanks for trying my game! Wow 10 trees is a lot. I think that's more than I managed even though I made the game lol. It doesn't get harder or have any more content because I didn't have time to add any more of my ideas. Same reason the controls have some issues, didn't have time to work on them more. She stops when swinging the axe because I couldn't figure out how to do the axe animation and walk animation at the same time.
It's a nice concept and story. I really struggled with the controls -- Jane moved so fast and then would jam, I think when swing her axe. Great work putting this together.
Thanks for trying out my game! I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, the controls have some issues because I ran out of time to work on them. She stops moving when swinging the axe because I didn't have time to figure out how to do a walk animation and an axe animation at the same time.
