I know I'm very late to comment, but this game is very amazing. The way you need to jump to avoid enemies is a great idea but initially I was confused on how to jump over the 4 enemies until I realized I needed to speed up the snake. I also love how the high score saves after people play it and register in their score. Also, the story at the beginning was very intriguing to me because of the fact that the obvious choice to make is legs and if I'm not careful, I could lose my legs forever. It was a dark theme to start but I like the idea of alerting the player to be careful while running!
This is so creative. The art is wonderful, I love the opening story cinematic. The game itself is fun but quite challenging! As others have said, I played with D help down the whole time, just in case I came across a line of ants. Nice job on your game.
Thanks for playing!! If you have any clever ideas for disincentivizing holding forward let me know! :)
Really cool game, the art is great!
Thanks for playing!!
Short and sweet little game! Charming pixel art, and an interesting intro that ties clearly the game to the them (interesting and creative interpretation btw!). The gameplay while simple reminds me of flappybird, the addictive "just-one-more-try" feeling.
Smooth game with no bugs!
If i were to nitpick, ill say I did not see much real need to press A (slow down). There were only situations where not having enough speed would kill you (e.g. no making it past the ant line), but as far as i could see, no situation where going too fast will hurt. I ended up holding down D the entire game. Perhaps a obstacle where overshooting the jump can harm you would allow for the slow-down to be more useful
Thanks for playing!! The lack of reason to slow down issue is one I've been brainstorming, and I have some half baked ideas to try to improve on that. If you have any specific thoughts I'd love to hear them!
I love everything about this! The pixel art is adorable, the story is clever with a really well done intro. The tilting back and forth to affect the speed of the jump is a bit tricky to figure out at the start. I do find myself wishing that the difficult jump that involves 4 bugs at once would wait until a bit further into the stage once the player has a better understanding of how to effectively jump them.
That said, this is one of my favorites so far, really well done!
Right, thanks for reminding me! I will probably be changing it to only have the ants later into the gameplay after the jam is done---I'd been considering it but it had slipped my mind. Thanks for playing, and glad you enjoyed!!
Great submission! I admittedly am terrible at these sort of games so I died a lot but I kept trying which means you have something to pull people in. Good job!
I'm not great at it either tbh! Thanks for playing ^_^
Surreal game. My wishes are money, food, and legs and I got 19 points
Thanks for playing!!! Not as surreal as your game I think ;P
Hahaha, I love that intro! Super funny, one of my favorite interpretations of the theme, and wonderful art!! Awesome job :)
Thank you so much!!! It means a lot knowing how good you are at game dev lol. I'm hoping to add some features after the jam that your game already has, like a leaderboard! (Was that really difficult to do?)
Aww, thanks! You should have an easier time than we did since you're using Godot. Check this out: https://silentwolf.com/
Oh neat, I have it like 90% functional now! Mostly gotta fix the ugliness. Thanks for the suggestion!
Going to have nightmares of snakes with legs now! ugh... its a little harsh to loose the legs with only 1 try. Id have lost my legs years ago! I just continually run fast and jump. I sometimes died from a butterfly that I dont think I hit, and sometimes jumped short where I thought Id jump longer. Didnt beat the 48 :/ Nice work
The trick with the butterflies that I wonder if you were running into is that the snake's hitbox actually tilts with the body, so if you're running slow or fast with a slant you'll hit low-flying butterflies that you could avoid by running "flatter." Thanks for playing, and apologies for the nightmares!
Great job finishing your game. The art and the music were good. Hilarious to see a snake with legs. The game was tough. I kept jumping into butterflies when I could have just ran under them...
I actually added a thing so that the butterflies you have to jump over fly down instead of up specifically because I kept making bad judgement calls and I got salty lmao
Haha, that's cool. Must mean I'm extra bad if I still kept hitting them even after you added that extra aid.
Well I have the advantage of knowing exactly how they're programmed ;P
GREAT! The music sounds really good, the story's unique and interesting. The mechanic is simple, clean and fun, and everything looks awesome. I think I might even tend not to like this kind of game, so this one must be doing some stuff really well. Nice job on the game!
Thank you!!! Tbh I'm not a huge endless runner person myself normally, but I started from "snake with legs?" and somehow ended up there xD
"skip story" how dare someone decide to skip the story!!! Your story was amazing, the blurb on the game page sold it for me. the snake with legs is hilarious to fit the theme. he kinda looked like a dinosaur. i got up to 30 points, but would definitely play again. great game!
Honestly added the option mostly so I could grind out the game without watching the cutscene every time xD
Thanks so much for playing!!!
lol. Friends and food are the same thing. Nice entry!
It's all about perspective ;P
For some reason I had lots of scratchy noises with the music and all sound...
Weird, first time I've heard of it. I'm too inexperienced with game dev to know where to start trying to figure out why that's happening unfortunately T_T
It is a cute little game. Never imagined a snake with legs, now, after all those rounds, I think this looks rather normal :D.
I wasn't really good at the game and after I while I just had to give up, because I got annoyed by my bad skills.
Good job!
I get it, sometimes I'll die to the first 3 enemies 4 or 5 times in a row ^^"
Thanks for playing!!!
As far as I'm concerned, this is the winner of the Best Story award for the jam. Really cool intro scene, loved the pixel art, fun take on an endless runner. Nice!
Thank you so much for playing!!!
Funny! Snake with legs? Where are you getting those ideas? lol
Real talk, it's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw "last stand." What does this say about me?? O.o
That you have a lot of creativity and that’s great!
Very fun game! I really like the pixel art! Also a nice touch that I get to keep the friends even when I lose!
Thanks for playing!! I couldn't help but add the mice at the end for cuteness lmao
Great little game, really cool take on the theme I like it a lot. I played this one on my youtube and gave my feedback as I was playing if you want to check it out you can here
Thanks for checking it out! It was fun to watch someone else play it, haha. One thing you didn't seem to notice playing---your hitbox also changes with the tilt, so some of the low butterflies can be dodged by "flattening out." Also hope you got the chance to listen to the music I wrote! I'm biased but I think it adds a lot ;P
I didnt mention it but yeah I had a feeling that was happening as I leaned sometimes I would clip those butterflies flying and other times i didnt. Nice work.
39 was my best score! It was almost always a butterfly which got me, too! I had no idea they were so powerful.
I feel going at topspeed the whole is the best strategy, otherwise when you encounter a line of ants you (or at least I) don't have enough time to speed up and clear all four of them.
The art is great, I really enjoyed the intro. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I replayed to pick the other two wishes... and I can't help but notice that food and friends are the same two mice...
Well, friendship and food are two sides of the same coin, you know. (or something like that)
For me I've done better speeding up quickly when I see the ants appear, otherwise I don't give myself enough reaction time, but you're not the only person who's said that top speed is the strat. And the butterflies can be pretty tricky---they're the only enemy that appears at a random height!
Thanks so much for playing!!!
