Good foundation for a game, though the enemies should be more varied and the difficulty should increase faster: I got just shy of 40k points and while there were more enemies on screen at once avoiding them wasn't a problem.

Going with the jam theme and the game name it feels strange that there's no penalty for letting enemies pass through.

I also think that the song is not on loop, as at a certain point it just stopped playing

Developer

You don't get assimilated.. that's the reward for not colliding with the enemies. So letting them past is fine. Manny lived. You just don't get points for that.

About looping the music, I wanted to do that but was unable to do that for the mp3 audio clip. Some write ups claim that it can be done but that option was not showing when I traversed the options available.

Thank you for the feedback. Will try to ask around on the audio looping.

NICE!  I'm generally really bad at shmups, but I enjoyed this one.  Maybe it was that music, it was great and weirdly relaxing.

Pretty nice game! Very simple controls and fun to play. Loved the music, I really liked how you leveraged AI to generate music for it. Nice Work!

Nice game. I like the music. I didn't know AI could be used to make music like that.

Developer (1 edit)

Haha.. AI can be used to speak too. Like instead of recording it yourself or looking for the right sound bites, you can get it to voice out words like “urgh”, “oops”, “yikes!”.. it really opens up your choices for audio. You can check out Clipchamp. It’s free and built into Win 11 too. I’ve used it for narration. You can tweak the speed and tone of the voice too.

Dude this game is a vibe. Genuinely enjoyed the chillness of flying through space killing animal people who helped me, made me shed a tear. The music is really chill and cool. That's really interesting you used an AI to generate this song, thanks for mentioning that, I'd like to look into it. Very impressive. Good job getting through GDTV Kaan's class, he's a great teach, hope you continue the GameDev grind!

Developer

Thank you!

For AI song creation, check out Suno AI. Free account gets 10 songs credits a day. They used to have an AI to help with lyrics creation but now it's up to you. So go to ChatGPT 4o (free 😊), give it a gist of your game or the subject you want. If there's specific areas you want to be covered, let it know too. You get lyrics out instantly. Then cut & paste the lyrics into Suno. Voila! You get personalized soundtrack for your game.

Nice choice with the music to the game! Well done controls and gameplay. maybe missing some animations but otherwise it looks good!

Developer

Thanks! I'm very new to Gadot. Ya, would be nice to have those little legs move.

Hey nice game , the music is great but IMO doesn't match the vibe other than that solid game . Keep up the good work ;)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Haha.. thanks! The music is by AI. I didn't know what genre to ask the AI to generate for such a game. Being set in some village, I thought of folk.. and we got the current tune.

The music with the action put images of Guardians of the Galaxy in the mind -- sort of miss-match where some of the scene still matches the sentimentality. Lots of space to grow this project, and it's working well.

Congrats on your submission!  Interesting take on a SHMUP.  To be completely honest, I didn't notice at first that the characters weren't animated.  I was busy trying to make sure nobody got past me.  I wasn't sure if I would die and ended up crashing into a wolf trying not to let him pass.  I did find out on another play through that you didn't have to stop them all, you just had to avoid them and shoot for higher scores.  I would have probably added, trees,  grass or a fence and then looped the background so it would look like the character is running around some terrain.

Developer

It's my first foray into Gadot. Not sure how to animate them. But I also noticed that a player would be focused on the stream of animals coming out that their lack of animation would not be so noticable.

I watched some videos on parallax background. The video showed 3 layers of background. It had perception of depth. That could be cool if I had layers of pebbles or puddles on the road. Something for future testing.

Thanks for feedback and playing.
