How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
It's in PICO-8 and should suit the Gameboy requirements. There are spooky skulls which jump at you when agitated long enough.

I really enjoyed this! Most of what I'd have to say has been said, like great pallets, good challenge, fun gameplay, nice art style.

My only real complaints are the momentum continuing after respawn: mostly cause it would sometimes send me backwards repeatedly if I hit a skull for example, or just send me off the side of a bridge.

And I think the skulls LOS seems weird? I thought staying just over one block kept you from their line of sight but that isn't true from every angle?  Also them sometimes spawn killing me because I'm just barely high enough? As in (hard mode)  I would respawn on a bridge, and if I was just high enough on the Y axis a skull could see me, and move slightly down it wouldn't.,  also if I went around the left side of a skull it was less likely to see me, it seemed.

Overall love and would play again!

You did one heck of a solid job on this game.  I LIKE IT!

Things I especially liked:

  • Palette swaps as you go through a screen.
  • All the different obstacles, skulls, traps, spikes, etc.  Forces you to think and try new things in an attempt to get through.
  • A challenge after?  That's a hilarious massacre!  At least it's entertainging to watch how hilariously crazy the physics become.

Problems I noted:

  • Are the regular tile positions coded properly?  I have seen several occasions where I would glitch through a tile and fall to my death.

Overall, I love this project.  Well done!

Very unforgiving, but very fun.

I like the art style and simple music, it works perfectly for this type of game.
The controls are a little slippery and sometimes collision boxes seem to be a bit unforgiving, some tight corners.
At first it's not very obvious what is the floor and what isn't, you have to die a few times to work out what's going on visually lol
But fortunately you don't have to restart more than a single screen.
A frustrating and challenging game, mainly due to difficult handeling, but not so much that you don't want to continuie playing.
Overall, I quite enjoyed it, a good entry!

Well designed in despite being difficult, it still keeps the player interesting in giving it another try, because when you lose you don't go back too far.

Also, it is appreciated that when you activate a bridge, it keeps activated if you lose before reaching it

A bit rage inducing tbh. while the controls are fine, the field feels strict and narrow sometimes. i do like the graphics tho.

The hard mode is really challenging! Love the simplicity combined with the forgiving gameplay.

It captures the eerie surrealness and difficulty of the original arcade Madness. This game will certainly make you lose your marbles. I'm saving New Game+ for another day!

I also can't believe it captures the essence of both GB and Pico8.

I really like the gameplay! Somehow, it's an idea that I've never really seen explored in a retro fantasy console / gameboy setting.

Also, are the buttons supposed to keep their state once you die? It seems like this might be a bug.

Fun game! the mechanics are quite enjoyable, the sound effects are good too, I like the thumping every time the spikes turn on and off
( I beat it btw  😎)
