How does your game fit the theme?
in this purposely glitchy roguelike a permanent modifier gets applied each round. The modifiers can affect everything from movement to the environment. By touching the ?-signs you can apply even more temporary modifiers that last just one round - this way the game gets even more out of control but you also gain additional score! (after the jam, I will add a lot of improvements: rebalance, lots of new modifiers and different kinds of food, and a really neat second ability which you can use all the time (and I really wish I had included in the jam!) - so be sure to stick around!)

Very cute game, slippery controls fit the theme of the jam good enough. Fan of the retro feel as well. Nice work!

Looks adorable! Didn't feel very out of control but maybe that's just because I'm bad and failed to get very far at all. Congrats on the submission!

really nice pixel art! and the jumps feel good.

I like the retro style and the concept/gameplay introduced by RNG (often original and funny/hardcore). I like the glitchy atmosphere too ! Wow, and all of this with the limitations due to PICO-8 ? Great job !

Really fun! I would like to see the out of control changes affected more by the player actions rather than at the end of a repeating level. Great art, well done.

Very well made platforming movement mechanics, and the aesthetics are great!

The platforming felt great. Good job!

I really like games that add a ton of modifiers to basic gameplay, so this is pretty nice! Optional temporary modifiers are a really cool idea too!

Very interesting concept. Love the cute cat. I don't think I can fully understand all the hud numbers that's the main issue for me. Good job!

Developer

thank you so much! i tried to introduce all the numbers in the beginning but it was very hard to fit the writing onto the screen!

from left to right:

leftmost number: round (increases each time you jump into the sparkles on the right side of the map and restart on the left (but not if you pick up a ?)

left middle number: food left in this round

right middle number: overall food collected through all rounds and + the bonus food score from the events

rightmost number: big jumps left (press c to make a big jump ), increases by one each time you pass a round or pick up food!

As someone who also made a cat-based game this time around, I absolutely had to try this.

I'm a sucker for a good Pico-8 game, and this absolutely delivers. If I had to give some constructive criticism, I'd say it's maybe too easy to fall huge distances? I found that pretty frequently I'd narrowly miss a jump, and then also miss a handful of platforms on the way down that I couldn't react to in time.

really like the increase in sound the closer to the sea you got.

I love the graphics! Very simple, yet also atmospheric. I think it could be even better with some twinkly, wintery music in the background. I also like the sliding apect.

I found the controls to be pretty slippery and I wish I had some way of knowing where the meat is so I can go collect it.  I also wish there was a way to just do a normal jump and save your super jump for later.  Pretty fun arcade game.

hey there is, if you press [up arrow key] you do a small jump, if you press [c] you do a big jump except if you have no more jump points left, then you do a small jump. So if you want to do a small jump just use [up arrow key]. The second number on the top shows how much meat is left in the stage but the game is not about collecting all the meat in every single stage, this would also be impossible later on, although you can still  try to play it that way if you want to.
