I liked it. A nice 2D shooter with a twist. The changing sound speed etc. lets you feel the stress building up. Great job!

I like how the music fits the protagonist of the game. The level design is also nice, the simplistic graphics are both charming and easy to read, and there's a high overall polish (besides the fact that there are no sound effects, which is disappointing.)
Unfortunately, I feel that the main mechanic of the game is a bit lackluster. When Ida's stressed out, she has a higher likelihood of just...crumpling up sadly for a few seconds. I don't know about you, but when people stressed out, generally it triggers a fight-or-flight response.
Still, you did a good job on this game. Keep it up!
Thanks ! In fact there are SFX but there’re too low for being audible…
My personnal experience of what’s a anxiety crisis is a friend in my class who’s been bullying for a long time, and now fade away when she gets too stressed (or for some other reasons). But you’re right too, and maybe the fight-of-flight response will be incorporated later in the game.
Thanks for your review !
The screenshots really don't do the game justice. It looks nice and is fun to play! A little gripe would be that the stess mechanic is a little too forgiving. But otherwise really cool stuff!
Interesting twist on a well established genre. Also good work on the visual. Nice game. :)
Really cool little game, the idea of stress is quite interesting ! great creation of symmetrical level design, with cool new little addition to help keep the game interesting ! maybe less hp for the first mobs would make the game a little less slow at the beginning (a bit of nitpicking) Otherwise Très bon jeu ! bravo à toi !
The main idea is cool. But my stress level was always low XD
Maybe change the things that can generate stress could help.
Quite interesting concept, but the fighting was maybe too easy and I nearly never had the stress level high. But overall it was fun, the art is simple and nice.
Overall a fun game, loved the enemy designs and the art. but there are some things holding it back. heres what you can improve:
- Have a in game camera, with the size of the room aiming your mouse around can be hard and losing it is easy since the cursor is so dark along with everything being tiny.
- Separate the thematic and fun information from the vital information on the game page, most players wont have the patience to read everything on the page and those who do may have trouble interpreting it (as have i). Leave a separate area with some space from everything else that has controls and mechanics explained in a short and concise way
- The combat design is uninteresting, there are no real tradeoffs or much risk even with the main mechanic. The combat boils down to just clicking on enemies and not standing in their path. Its not a challenge to avoid them and the game does not force the player into making interesting choices. Your main mechanic is supposed to be stress, you can really use that for some interesting gameplay by having maybe shooting causing stress, or being able to recover stress at the cost of health, or enemies that cause more stress but dont damage you. these will force the player into choosing which is more valuable (health or stress), think about where they are positioned, make them think about how they spend their shots, etc. Maybe you can even make stress more punishing by having the player go completely berserk for a while randomly moving and shooting or randomizing the controls after stress reaches its peak for a while. these will make the player question if they should spend resources trying to maintain their health or keep their stress down, or if they feel like they can afford to go berserk for a little.
Hello,
First of all, thanks for your long and detailed review! It’s a little hard to swallow, but it’s a honest feedback and it’s actually what I need.
I will try to fix the cursor to make it bigger (and make its dimensions proportional to the window’s size). Maybe I will also purpose different cursors like in Enter the Gungeon.
About the page’s design… Well, I will rewrite it if it isn’t clear and precise. But don’t blame me, I’m a French student so my text may be not short and concise!
All of the last ideas for the gameplay are good and interesting, and will make the game better. I take notes for a future version! *I really need game design/level design lessons, I really suck. *
Thanks! <3
Really fun game and stress was a very interesting mechanic, it was much better than a generic game timer since there was a way to decrease it and filling it up didn't result in a game over. I think that the loss of control could have been a bit more frequent when lower down on the stress bar since I didn't find the mechanic was particularly impactful in the game. I mostly died due to just by taking too much damage from not having quick enough reactions so maybe health could be increased a bit but the stress bar could become more dangerous. I would have also liked some sound effects for shooting since while the flash was nice visual feedback, sound effects would have made attacking and hitting an enemy much more satisfying. However, overall the game was really enjoyable and I really liked your use of the theme, great job!
Thanks for you detailled review ! I’m gonna to take under consideration your feedback. In fact, I made a SFX for firing, being hit and collecting a malus/bonus but it’s too low and we can’t hear them in the final version… Sorry about that ! In the future the stress bar will have more impact, like glitch the screen (what I wanted to do but I don’t have the experience for code that) and some annoying effects.
So is this game SUPPOSED to make me exhale in FRUSTRATION LMAO
Very nice game, definitely fit the theme, VERY cute graphics, and I noticed the music started getting lower as the stress meter went up, loved that bit. Made it up to 3-1.
Beautiful game!
First of all, YOU SUCK (and so does this reviewer <__<) xD. Just kidding.
Cool game, I loved your pixel art, and the animation when she's stressed is so cute, really made me want to protect poor little Ida...
I think my major problem with the game was its slow pace. The main character is slow, the enemies take too long to kill, and the stress consequence slows the game even futher. I think making the enemies die in one hit would atenuate most of the pacing problem.
Congratulations on making the game tho, you put together many levels and enemies in just 48 hours, and that was pretty good overall. Hope you and Ida get lots of pancakes after this hard weekend!
Cheers.
Hello,
You’re right, I find Ida is a little slow too. I will remake all of the deplacements for more maniability. I can eventually drop monsters’ HP but I don’t think dropping their HP to 1 is a good idea (but having a lower HP scheme is a not bad idea). Also, I’m happy that you like the art ^^
Thanks for you detailled review !
Loved the game, the art is really cute >w<
The stress bar worked for me too the first time lol, I thought there'd be a game over if it was full oof xD
And also thanks for AZERTY keyboard support ^^
I will now eat pancakes too UwU
I died but I don't suck =/.... Lol....
Great game! Cute visuals! Great job!
