Well, that was enjoyable, but couldn't beat it. It would be great if I could somehow know whether or not it's a good idea to evict previous tenants for the new one (there weren't any stats for the old tenants as far as I could tell). The repair mechanic seemed unnecessary. Could use faster information, like color-coded stats ("high" green, "medium" blue, for example). The game looks good and plays well though, and is fun, and building your own isometric engine is damn impressive.

Developer(+1)

The current tenant happiness is shown by the emoji after their name when you click on the property. Otherwise yep and yep - implementation of other stats could be nicer for scanning, and repairs don't fit super well with the rest of the game, but at least it's something else to do. Thanks for playing!

Overall it was a nice game.  Pretty impressive given the constraints.  The two things I would say, was that a lot had to be figured out that probably could have been explained well.  This is par for the course of game jam games so I certainly wouldn't fault you for that.  In terms of mechanics the maintenance system was a little bothersome, since maintenance costs seemed to never be significant.  Maybe that could be made more interesting, made automatic or removed and replaced.

Developer

Nice insight! There was actually a moment where we discussed removing the repair mechanic, but it was already done/close to done and we decided having it would reduce the chance that the (unplaytested thus far) game would have too little to do. Thanks for playing!

I liked the overall calming atmosphere though you are trying to keep the loan sharks away from you and how simple/easy it is to get into it. I do wish that there was a way to not "deny" but exit out of a client to purchase the home on the location they prefer and it would've helped to have some way of foreseen which areas to start with, how much money you will get pet tenant, how often that money is generate, and maybe it was there but I did not quite know when the shark was going to come in and how much money he would collect so I would end up accidently spending a bit too much making me think "Maybe it's best if I start all over."  I think this is pretty neat and tweaking a little more to improve on how to communicate those and making sure the game is more balanced will make this an even better experience. :D

Thanks for playing!! For sure for sure ๐Ÿ™‚, you're calling out a lot of the UI shortfalls which we (now) know crop up a ton if the screen real estate isn't well-planned out beforehand. But it's pretty hard to manage that properly when working out the game idea at the same time as the game code ๐Ÿ˜‰. (btw I love your game!)

Submitted(+1)

That was fun, I like management games, it seemed like a lot of work

Developer

It was a lot of work ๐Ÿ˜…. Thanks for playing!

I had a lot of fun trying to connect all my different homes without breaking the bank! I also really liked the little collectible shells that would randomly spawn on sand tiles during the months to give extra money, as it helped me get that last bit of money I needed right before I had to pay up.

Developer

Glad you had fun! Thanks for the nice comment!

Wow, finally a game that caters to my fantasy of being a deep sea landlord !

It's well made, fun and relaxing, time flies with this game !

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much playing! Glad you enjoyed!

I'm impressed how well the payment curve works! Very fun and well made, even more impressive that it's built literally from raw javascript as far as I can tell. Thanks for open sourcing it so others can learn from the code!

One thing I found myself wishing I could do was view applicants and then buy an appropriate house the for the applicant before denying them. I think I understand the gameplay reason why that wouldn't be allowed, but based on the existing UX it felt like something I could have done.

Developer

Thanks for the super insightful comment!

I totally agree that would be a nice improvement! But making UX cuts early turned out to be a good choice to cut off scope-creep (especially on jam timeline!).

*EDIT* Problem solved - I was using too small of a screen (buttons at the bottom were off-screen)

I won't rate yet bc I can't figure out how to make anything happen... please explain the controls? I'd normally rate low because it seems broken but judging by the comments it should be working and it looks fun so I want to play it.

Developer(+1)

The game is completely controlled by your mouse. Not sure how much to explain here, but to start, click on a pink property you can afford and hit "Buy" at the bottom.

Maybe the issue you're seeing is that your screen size is small enough that the action buttons at the bottom are below the edge of the screen.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

*EDIT* Yep, that fixed it! I just played it on my bigger monitor and it worked!

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a screen size problem, based on the screenshots I'm seeing on your page (I can't see the "Buy" button). I'll see if I can figure it out otherwise I'll just have to not rate it. Thanks! :)

Really good game ! I spent like 20 minutes on it ^^ Do something with this proto, I'm sure you will have success with it

This game is far from polished and there's not much to it at first, but as you go on it gets a lot more interesting. I absolutely enjoyed playing this and would definetely play it again

Developer

I've never quite get to polish properly when building from the ground up during a 48hr game jam.  Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah like that is the case i've seen with most games in the Jam, is that people go either full on for polishing or full on for design and your game belongs to the latter. I still love it though

Submitted(+1)

Love the art, you can tell you spent a lot of time on the coding too! Good job overall!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!! I'll try out your game later today!

really funny take on the 'paying back a loan' thing. lovely vibes

Developer(+1)

glad you think so! Thanks for playing!

This was super cute and fun! I just wish one could see when the shark is going to turn up. I have to stop playing now or else I'll get stuck here forever

Developer

Totally could use something better, but there was a lot of UI work to do already. The month counter is supposed to fill this role, and you should realize pretty early that all months end on day 28 (The shark makes fun of you for this too at some point if you keep skipping the payment :P) Thanks for playing!!

The loan shark gets me every time :D
