Such an awesome idea, i got to 21st, apparently first place is 2 hours!

Would be cool to see some more messages posted over time :)

Developer

First place is actually over 7 hours 😭😭

I'm glad you liked the game! I definitely wasn't expecting most players to play all the way to the end of the narration, I'm absolutely realizing there should have been more zones and more text haha. I should not have underestimated the determination of GMTK submitters!!

Submitted(+1)

One of the best experiences I've had from a jam game, congratulations.

Developer(+1)

I'm so happy you enjoyed it!! Amazing 5th place high score by the way, haha!

Submitted(+1)

I love this a lot. Highest I've rated a game for the Jam! Low key I want to get the high score lol - really nice job!

Developer(+1)

I'm really happy to hear you liked the game!! I hope the jam went well for you :]

Submitted(+1)

Damn. There really is nothing here gameplay-wise, but the text was so real!
I wish more developers would refer to the player this directly and honestly, even without a tight deadline.
Good luck in your future game-dev endeavors!

Developer

Hehe yeah, the game is essentially an extended cutscene with only a meta-competitive element if you care about being the person who can hold your space bar the longest. But simplifying the gameplay to such an extreme degree was definitely key to pulling myself out of a creative hole and presenting a much more complete and sincere experience🥲. I'm glad you found it effective!

Submitted(+1)

It's easy to think a game has an objective quality to it and that more quality is better, but sometimes something as simple as sincerity is interesting in and of itself

Submitted(+1)

Witty, meditative, and real. Even though it was tongue-in-cheek and not the initial idea, it turned into a little narrative game! I understand that Saturday head-against-wall very well, and congrats on the submitted game!!

Developer(+1)

I'm happy the narration resonated with you!! I'm very grateful I was able to submit this year, and am guiltily glad to hear I'm not the only one who struggled 😭Hope to see you at GMTK next year!

Submitted(+1)

Cheers to a smooth Saturday during next GMTK to both of us!

Fascinating little experience, the kind of thing jams are for really. The dialogue was interesting, seeing other people's scores go by was good. You got lucky I haven't seen any explicit score names haha

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it!! There is a bad words filter but I'm glad nobody has tested its limits yet haha, I have a way to manually prune scores if it happens though.

As someone who had a complete breakdown at the beginning of the game jam and on the verge of giving up, this game hit me right in the feels. It worked out for me in the end, and I'm glad it did for you as well! This game is a gem, I stayed for 10 minutes, I hope I saw most of the dialogue! The online function also makes this game really interesting!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you made it through the jam!! GMTK I think can feel exceptionally rough, there's a lot of pressure to finish and do great and be part of something big. You saw all the dialogue don't worry!! I don't see your game linked with your comment, but I'd love to play it if you're willing to share the page :]

(+1)

Oh absolutely, it's such a big thing, and I got a team that I really don't want to dissapoint! And because we almost made the top cut 2 years ago  (we got 118th place) it feels like there is extra pressure to do as well again. I was really struggling to find my artstyle at first, redrawing a single character at least 10 times in the first evening. In the end the encouragment of others got me through to finish the art. In the end it was so worth it, I am so happy how the game turned out!

And yeah the game isn't linked because I didn't figure out how to set myself as an admin for the game in time, so it's not linked on my profile, but I did all the art for this game: https://exoskull-1.itch.io/scale-issue !

Submitted(+1)

it’s ok, But I was feel to i didn’t understand to play. however I like the Style.

Developer(+1)

I'm sorry you couldn't figure out how to play! If you want to try again, all you have to do is give the game a few seconds to load all the way before you press anything, then hold any button down. From there it kind of plays itself!

Submitted(+1)

Thanks you bro, I wil try again.

Submitted(+1)

I feel like I got cheated out of my record run. I never lifted my finger! :D

I liked the music the art and the idea. I think it needs a splash screen for the slow start-up time and a retry button so I can write you messages in game easier.

Developer(+1)

haha i noticed the sarcastic messages pouring in!!! i'm glad you liked the game enough to playfully vandalize it hehe, but i'm sorry your record run got eaten :[ outside of the first few minutes the game isn't very playtested so i imagine a lot of processes build up and make the game less stable

Submitted(+1)

More people need to play this, it’s a neat idea and I loved the commentary!

Using emojis for the random sprites was also a great idea to work within the time limitation you had.

The game started lagging and playing at 0.1x speed once I got past the 30 min mark so my final score was much lower than it could have been :(

Developer

30 MINUTES??? IT SAYS ON MY COMPUTER THAT YOU LOGGED 7.5 HOURS ?????

😲

I am completely blown away and glad you enjoyed the game haha, I'm sorry that the performance issues seemed to build up, none of my playtesters got that far!!!

Submitted(+1)

7.5 hours seems about right :D

It appears like the in-game timer isn’t the true timer then, based on the terminal outputs it seems like you check the timestamps at the start and end to calculate the overall time?

I would love to see more experimental games like that if you keep making them, sometimes interesting creations come from frustration and other large emotions :)

Submitted(+1)

I feel you on giving up on your first idea.

Submitted(+1)

I think this might be the most unique game jam game I've ever played, really creative. Also logged a 2and place with a score of 18 minutes so I guess it did engage me quite well haha. Could you maybe tell me (as a secret if you wanna) if there was any more hidden dialogue after that?

Developer(+1)

Wow 18 minutes is crazy!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I wanted to put more secrets further out but the narration about being 15 minutes to the submission deadline is unfortunately accurate lmao, so there's nothing thaaaat far out considering i couldnt even test the game all the way through 😭😭

Submitted(+1)

All 5 Stars. I have never cried at a game jam game before. I needed this.

Developer

you're very sweet ;-; i'm glad you liked the game !!!!

Submitted(+1)

-visually appealing animations -leaderboard was cool, made you wanna keep going even after the text events finished - when i first failed it said i hadn't lasted long enough, i get that alot, but it wouldn't even let me enter my name for the leaderboard and no restart option, still very satisfying overall

Developer

FFSen why does it say here on my computer that you logged a first place score of 33 minutes

Developer

but fr i'm glad you liked the game haha!!!! yeah there should be a restart button, completely slipped past me cause i would just restart the game to replay it lol
