How does your game fit the theme?
The player character is a puffer fish whose main game mechanic is to inflate and deflate freely. Inflating increases the character's scale by a large amount, with both advantages and disadvantages. Being a puffer fish, the character is not only covered in scales but also naturally built to change scale.

Really impressive! The style is great! I like the mechanics, but I do think the bounce could use some work.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!

I like the mechanic of using momentum to punch through obstacles, it's like in Super Mario where momentum allows you to jump higher. A little suggestion: if pufferfish could become more bouncy as it gets bigger, it would lead to more possible gameplay!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! That's an interesting idea

I know people mentioned having trouble with the controls, but I personally found them really satisfying, especially the way you can’t move when you’re inflated. Great character concept!

Developer

Thank you! I wanted to make the inflated form be strong but also have a big downside, I'm glad you found it enjoyable!

love the idea! the controls are really hard for me. its takes me a long time to pass the first map (skill issue)

Developer

Thank you! I tried hard to make the movement feel nice but maybe the puffing and bouncing controls may not have been obvious to everyone

The size-changing mechanic added a lot of depth to both the combat and the puzzles, making each encounter feel interesting and challenging. The underwater setting was beautifully designed, and the gameplay was smooth and engaging. I especially loved the animations. It's a creative and well-executed game! Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm happy you liked it!

I really liked this! The style's so fun, and I like the take on the theme. The controls for swimming around while unpuffed feel great, and I think you found a great gameplay loop as it feel great to swim towards something while small and helpless then suddenly switch to the large form to use your momentum to your advantage!

Developer

Thank you! I tried hard to make swimming feel good, I'm happy you enjoyed it!

hey, really liked your game!! cute art and cool level layout.
Had a lot of fun playing it and controlling the cute puffer fish. 🐡
You made a great job making this game feel like a classic retro with the "secret" optional buttons, felt good to unlock those and get extra lifes.

feedback:

  • the game, as it is, is a bit hard. it is kinda hard to grasp the controls of the puffer fish. it has acceleration, you have to inflate with momentum and it also has a kinda large cooldown. this "kind of hard" make players feel unskilled 😥. my suggestion is to simply buff puffer. make him easier to control, make him accelerate faster. I would also make him completely invincible during super size mode but making inflated mode last only about 1 second (it has a cooldown, so it would be fine).
  • try to avoid demanding players to inflate at the right time, people (like myself ) are usually terrible at timing. here is the thing, youve got a great design decision with the buttons. they are kinda hard, but optional. this makes them feel very good to conquer.  reward players that inflate at the right time with a "perfect parry" prompt or something like this. things like this make you feel super pro 😎
  • if you can, always try to blend UI info in your design. you can make puffer change colors to show how much hp he has and make his cheeks full to show that he is ready to inflate. you can also make the cooldown bar appear above his head and do not show it if the cooldown is full. this way we players can focus in your amazing art.
  • always treat players as kids lol. make it unbelievably informative. make big red letters showing us what to do. info like: "jellyfish wont die just avoid it"; "buttons arent mandatory"; "try to reflect the boss bubbles to kill him", etc.
  • nitpicking, but make him inflate smoothly (it can be fast, but gradual). this can also avoid bugs like getting stuck on walls.

sorry for the big text, dont get me wrong, I LOVED your game and think your design is amazing!

congrats on your entry!! 🙂👍🏼

Very cool take on the theme! It was a pretty fun game too. Could use some more polish/juice but still good.

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

really enjoyed the game up until the boss level, i’m not sure how to reflect the bubbles and got stuck. i loved the art and the scaling of the pufferfish though :)

Developer

Thank you for your kind words I'm glad you liked it! You can reflect the bubbles by inflating just before they hit you. I tried to communicate it with the grampa fish at the start of the game, but maybe it wasn't very obvious how to do it :)

Nice work! Really liked managing momentum and how your interactions with enemies changed depending on your inflation state. Found it a little tricky to break blocks sometimes but it didn't get in the way too much. Really well rounded entry!

The art style on this is incredible - especially the character designs!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! My friend Mikael did all the art and he did a phenomenal job

I really loved the art style and scaling mechanic. I can see how this could be expanded to more puzzle-based mechanics with bouncing while big or fitting into smaller spaces while small. For improvements, I would work on the hit detection and better feedback for when your inflated spines will defeat blocks and enemies.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! You are right, some indication of when and how much damage you can do when inflated would have been very nice

Really cool game, even a little addictive! Beautiful art, sounds, mechanics. Only improvement I can think of is a SFX to notify when the bar fills up. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I had that exact idea of the bar fill SFX but forgot to add it in the end 😩

I really love this game, well fitted on theme, easy to play, good art style. In general, the game is very charismatic and well polished! Good work guys!

Developer

Thank you for you kind words!

Realy nice movement mechanics, It was realy fun to play the game, although sometimes you'd get stuck in the walls, and not able to move, but that's just a bug I encountered.

Developer

Thank you I am glad you had fun! Growing sizes messes a lot with the collision and I tried to fix it as much as I could but you can indeed still get stuck

Funny game, liked the art and the music and the variaty of different enemy types. :) Not sure if that's on purpose, but if I die and the level restarts the destroyed blocking obstacles doesn't respawn.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking of regenerating destroyed blocks on respawn, but decided to only do it on the boss stage to avoid slowing down the game pace
