Build up a katamari-trash-ball with your rocket. Do it carefully, otherwise you'll become unbalanced or too heavy to fly

Hi fellow trash programmer <3 I liked this game, the art and music are very nice and I really felt like I was making a difference when I managed to fly the thrash to space. I had similar issues as others  with falling and then not being able to fly up. When too much trash gets stuck on one side, there is no way to keep flying up- maybe it would be fun to have this difficulty but with an option to constantly balance with keys? Overall I enjoyed it a lot!

Thanks playing and the feedback! I was considering making a trash compactor pickup or service that makes you fully symmetric again for a cost. Or maybe some other way to eject/cut a particular piece of trash that is causing trouble. Yeah, as-is, if you grab something heavy with too much leverage, it’s a death sentence.

Cute game! Very hard to control the heavier it is and if you fall with your face to the ground there's no chance to recover except by restarting lol. My strategy to win was just "keep going up, trash will stick to you eventually" and even then it was hard to reach the top haha! Pretty nice

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah I think I fell into the difficulty = interesting trap a little bit!

So much fun! It also has the social commentary perspective for having those Stanley cups there as space junk.

Developer(+1)

Big, Dumb, Cups!! I just got one of these (a knockoff) as swag from an event and they truly are massive.

really simple and fun game but sometime i press to turn the rocket but it doesnt register so i have to click on the screen for it to refresh. some feedback for it like thruster particles would help!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah agreed, I have some VFX flames for the thrusters, but didn’t have time to throw them in there. I’ll add it in a post jam update.

You achieved to turn this idea into something truly entertaining.  The detach physics with the weight make that you can't just grab everything and leave, you need to manage your gravity center, it requires some skill. And you shouldn't take all the updates either because you lost control of the turn. The design was perfect, congrats.

Developer

Thanks for playing! It is a somewhat precarious balance of weight vs upgrades! Glad you found it fun.

Nice work! I liked how straightforward the gameplay was: just try to make it out to space. I think short runs like that are great for jam games; this game doesn't overstay its welcome. I enjoyed playing with the slightly goofy physics, and I also really appreciated the twist on the Katamari concept that adding new things to your rocket isn't necessarily good, since it makes it harder to steer. I like that the "scale" is a double-edged sword in this one. Well done!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I adding fudge factors to the physics to make it more fun.

Really good game, there's no bugs, the physic is cool and the spaceship is fun to controll ! Great game :D

Developer(+1)

Hah, yeah! Uh, no bugs at all!!! 😐 https://youtu.be/Ax_rgPyUnnc

(I “fixed” this by allowing breakage, but I kind of like the game better without breakage) Thanks for playing!

Physics games are always something else and this one too ! It was really fun to play, and was scared the first games to fail ahah and loose it all ! GG !

Thanks for playing! I highly recommend getting way too heavy too quickly and smashing into the ground!

Such a fun game, I love your take on the Jam Theme, first try I played very safe, but seing my poor score I became greedier and this is when the fun of the game is, the physics is very cool and well implemented.
Did you think of implementing a progrssion system with the money we gain every run ? it's for sure could be a cool update.
I will for sure tell my friend to try it ! Good Job !

Thanks for playing! Greed is a powerful motivator, even when there’s just fake dollars at stake!

For progression and world building, I was actually thinking of a kind of business sim. You’re a company that is contracted to remove space trash from low-orbit, and you have to balance earning money with buying upgrades for the rocket. There could be different rocket types that have a cost to launch, or the engine upgrades and refuels might cost money. Or you buy a “permit” that unlocks higher risk higher reward trash (explosive trash, biohazard, nuclear, etc). I think progression is the next step!

Love space melons. The physics are fun to play around with, nice and simple idea, but makes for an enjoyable gameplay!

Simple idea, nicely executed, good job.

I love Katamari Damacy, great to see an interpretation of it here:)

I like the flying mechanics, you kind of want to even out your weight or else you tip all over the place! I found it a little odd that stuff would spontaneously eject from my clump (maybe too frequently).

Otherwise I enjoyed it lots! Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I agree about the stuff flying off – Originally, I wanted to allow stuff to break off when you smash into things too hard. So there is a break force proportional to the object’s mass, which works OK when you’re small. But when the ball gets big (and the turning forces increase with upgrades) stuff on the outside starts to experience huge torques. This is why it’s nearly impossible to pick up small items on the outside of a big ball (small mass -> small break force and large radius -> large torque), which was kind of unintended.

I tried turning off joint breaking completely and I think I like it better TBH, so I may publish an post jam version some improved/fudged physics.

I'm flush with Space Melons and i'm absolutely fine with that.

Fun lil physics game, nice job!

Thanks for playing! Hope you got your fill of melons!

Very cool idea, but I wish it was a bit easier.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I know I think I fell into the trap of making it too difficult 😭

Submitted

Really difficult, but a pretty fun idea. Good job.
