The dice rolling mechanic before levels (along with the star system) adds a really interesting way to introduce replayability and allow different routes. Someone in your chat mentioned the elephant room game and I think your gameplay loop ended up being pretty similar where you can play the same level multiple times but its a little different each time. Having single screen levels where everything is zoomed out a lot more could have let people plan their dice allocations, but maybe at the cost of having a sense of exploration, I think both ways work. I struggled with a couple platforming parts, but it MIGHT have had to do with the camera snapping back and forth too quick too. Really solid work overall, the character controller ended up feeling very complete, just might need some tweaking value-wise. Awesome submission with a well executed idea!
Thanks mr boats! That all means a lot coming from you, considering your games are always so polished.
Next jam I'll certainly focus on polish a lot more and really simplifying the core mechanic to allow for more polish!
Great presentation, obviously! Was a joy to look at. Fun mechanic with the modification of your abilities and having the option to 3-star every level. I had a little bit of a hard time with the platforming though. The side to side movement felt a little bit slippery to me, making many of my deaths feel punishing from the game side rather than my own fault.
Completely agree, its a halfway platformer, I broke one of my rules with the platforming control/mechanics.
I said I'd come back to it and refine it at the end, but i just did not 😅
I'm still kicking myself about it!
Hi cinder. Great submission. The comic needs some polishing (visually speaking), but the table… man… that pentagram is SO COOL.
Absolutely agreed! One of the final additions, and also one of the weakest 😅
good and fun game idea
It's a really nice idea! It only lacks a bit in execution (level design, mostly), but that happens during jams ^^
I like that you want to have both high AND low rolls, so that you can make you character better AND the hazards less dangerous. Although, I find putting too much speed on Beanie ends up in trying to pilot a bar of soap. XD
Speaking of Beanie, it's nive to have a little story! It gives the game an identity =)
Very good submission, it has a lot of potential!
In general I'm really bad at platformers, but the dice mechanic really felt fresh and interesting; I was more concerned with rushing to bank my dice than anything else. I think having a bigger level with more hidden dice could work really well if the player has to chose between collecting more dice in the level or saving them and re-rolling. The game has great vibes!
Not having more levels and more content per level (different enemy types instead of just the saws), is one of my biggest regrets for sure! The intent was to have one hazardous path, one path that required high jumping ability, and one path that required fast run speed for each level... Needless to say, took too big of a bite there 😅
Cool concept! I like the mechanic of rolling the dice to influence gameplay, and I love the art on the dice rolling screen. Sometimes the movement and camera felt a little bit finicky, but overall nice game!
Love all the pixel art, especially that dice roll screen and the character! The camera did feel a bit jerky and I had a hard time with the parkour but that could be my lack of skill. Overall though, amazing submission
Loved the concept. Great entry!
Cool presentation!
Loved the concept! Very impressive looking GUi! I think the movement system could be changed a bit, but I understand that it's also subject to the roll of the dice, making it hard to standardize. My first go around, I put a 6 into my movement speed (not a tactical decision as it turns out)
