Great concept.  Lots of fun.

Great game with good music, but in the second level was hard to catch the button to change the player because Lava hide it. Would be good to have only 1 button to change or change it automatically. Maybe that's how it was conceived because it makes it very difficult to remember all the keys for different portals

This game is super unforgiving! But I played through it all because I was dying to beat these hard levels! It was very engaging and it got me very riled up! Filled me with rage. Great stuff!

Developer

Thanks for playing!! I'm happy you made it to the end!

I really wish that the portals would automatically transform you into the forms. As far as I can tell, there's never a situation where transforming into a different form than expected required or beneficial, so it's just a matter of remembering which button was which form.

But yeah, the game was still rather good and quite pretty with some intense platforming!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!! I do agree that memorising the buttons was a bit much, but I did still want some interaction from the player when going through a portal. A lot of devs suggested keeping it as one button, which I may consider for a post jam. Glad you found it good though!!

Neat game - love the idea - I just suck at it - job well done.

Developer

Thanks for playing! It's a bit challenging haha don't knock yourself down over it. Glad you liked the idea!

on the technical side si really good. tying the mutations to buttons definitely makes me panic during the game..... Maybe a bit too much.

I get the idea, but the game is too punishing, and sometimes it doesn't even tell you why.

Particularly, during the butterfly segments, there's no visual or flag that tells me " you can't go under or over the pilars", i just die.

the platformer side can use some extra polish on game feel, and maybe with the collision shapes.

I still had my fun so i congratulate you!

Developer

Thanks for playing!!! I agree with everything you said. A lot of it was time  constraints so I just overlooked a lot of the issues to save time. Glad you had fun though!

Fun with an original concept but the controls are a bit odd to get used to.

the switching between 3 different forms to cross portals is a neat idea, and the fact you sometimes have to switch rapidly definitively lives up to the title when it comes to panick XD

The game looks good and has nice music, the platforming physics seem fine but like i said the only thing that's a bit holding the game back are the controls, you have a bit much to take into account while platforming transforming while going through a portal and then the dash move when you're in water that makes a lot of controls to go through fast on a keyboard, though i feel this many functions would pass a bit better on a controller layout.

But it was fun otherwise, to have ground air and water forms can make for some interesting level puzzle for sure if you push this post jam.

Good job :)

Thanks for playing!! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Definitely planning to tweak controls for the post jam lol

Submitted(+1)

Well nothing a little tweak can't fix, and no worries jam delays are tight so any game's bound to have some quirks :p

Nice concept and as far as I went nice pacing. Was a really tough game for me. The thing about complicated control is they "never" seem too complicated while designing it :D

Developer

Thanks for playing! You're right haha, I got used to the controls so I didn't realise lol

Love the idea. The game was kind of hard to play on my azerty keyboard tho but I guess that's on me for being french haha! :p

I liked the intuitiveness of it and the art is pretty nice.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to think harder about our control schemes next time since that seems to be a universal point of contempt.

nice little mashup of genres. the controls are too complicated. you should limit the transform to one button or transform automatically after the player reaches one of those areas. :-)

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah the controls seem to be a universal point of criticism lol. We considered auto-transform or single button transform but we felt it would go against the vision of having the player think for themselves on what to switch to rather than have it done for them, then again we might've overcomplicated it.

It was a bit unintiutive to control, but I liked everything else. Fun game. Also high-five for caterpillar based game! :D

Developer

Thanks for playing! I think the controls were definitely a point I could've improved on. I probably should've told the players that you can use space to jump instead of W, since that's more comfortable and it's what I was using to playtest.

A nice idea and pretty cool art. I got stuck sometimes when transforming and the caterpillar transformation did not work properly. But the cocoon of a great game is definetly there.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!! There were definitely some kinks to iron out with the transformation that I didn't have time to. I put in the reset button (F) as a temporary workaround but I forgot to mention it in the tutorial.

I liked what you were going for with this game! It is interesting having a longer character like a caterpillar for platforming, and the shifting mechanic is fun kind of like a geometry dash sort of thing. It did feel as though it could have been more lenient towards the player though. Some jumps were blind into spikes/mine, and having a longer character and having a short jump made even normal spikes have to have too much precision needed to get over without dying. Overall it was a good submission!

Developer

Thanks for playing!! The level design was a but cruel at times I agree, I think it overcompensated what the player could do based on my own ability to beat the game. I'm glad you enjoyed it though!
