What a beautiful game! I love it!
The art style is great, the vibes and atmosphere is something unique and special imo and you nailed the feeling of a strange world waiting to be explored. (**SPOILER** I figured out after a while I could get new seeds when I go inside, then that I could give the seeds to the mole and then the fish and the teasure... **) like thats really surprising and I liked the way I had to figure it out, much fun. Great achievement! + The weather system is awesome! Well done! I would only refine the weather changes and the visibility etc during the rain for example. Needs some work but great foundation.
I actually really liked the walk sound and the other SFX have been great too.
Unfortunately I couldn't get one single sunflower planted. I digged the hole, no problem, I thrown the seed in, easy, but hen I just wasn't able to put earth on top of it. No matter which direction or position I had while digging. Could you explain? Is this a bug?
Anyway, I think this is a beautiful piece of art and I think the overall game concept, art style and the environment creating a game with a huge potential - if you polish the mechanics, add a little story, make more secrets and the world bigger - and I would totally buy and play it. Co-op would be awesome too. I have Animal Crossing vibes here but with a totally different concept in mind.
Overall awesome. Love it.
Thanks! :D
It's possible that there's a Mac only bug where you can't bury the seeds, but you should be able to stand very close to a hole with a seed in it and do the dig animation to bury (there are different particles to indicate filling vs digging). Because of how I handle the strange gravity, it got a little finicky near as you approach the Z axis map edges. It could be a bug, or it could be that the way I coded it is kinda garbage :sigh: *Adds to list of things to refactor*
**SPOILER** I added the "free seeds if you run out if you go back in the house" mechanic because it was way to easy to soft lock by planting your last seed or throwing the last seed to the fish/ mole or having it stolen by the birb. **END SPOILER**
Did it feel hard to see during rain? After seeing it so many times it all starts to disappear if you know what I mean. I definitely spent most of my time making the weather feel comfy. I wanted to be able to consider it a success if people just watched the seasons go by listening to the music and rain and stuff.
I'm glad you liked the SFX, I made them all in LMMS with the SFXR clone.
I actually originally had it planned as 2/3/4 on a couch co-op *for the jam* but I started having performance issues so it got cut sadly. It already supports controllers, so it's just a hop skip and a jump to add more players, I just didn't want to fight those kind of bugs for the jam.
Thanks so much for playing my game! Your game almost made me cry and I loved it so your praise means a lot.
Nice work and cute character! I like that you put the signs in, definitely helps to give direction on what to do at the start. I was able to grow multiple sunflowers before winter! This didn’t happen to me in a prior version I tried, but it crashed a few seconds or moments after the stalks disappeared (I assume in prep for winter). Playing again didn’t result in that so could have been a fluke. So happy I was able to help the little critter across the water! (though on credits, was expecting something to happen after the text went away, like return t menu or something).
Hey I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was hoping the signs would be clear enough to help you plant sunflowers. Good job on growing multiple flowers before winter! That sounds like a strange bug. I'm not sure why it would have crashed right after the stalks disappear. Could be trying to delete things that are already deleted maybe? Nice work on helping sad ham! Yeah I didn't make the credits go back. I guess I could have made it reload the room and fade back in, but there isn't a distinct title screen or anything. Thanks for playing!
Cute and interesting. I love the little walk animation.
I think there was a bit of a problem with the walk sound, which is playing too often, but that’s not a major issue.
Congrats on the entry!
Hey thanks for playing! Yeah his walk animation was supposed to be super fast (if you notice it's all smears, no motion), and so the sound was supposed to replicate that--it should have gotten quieter and changed pitch when holding down walk button though, did it do that? I wish I had gotten to see your playthrough but I got to the stream too late or left too early to see. Thanks for showcasing everyone's games! And thanks again for playing!
Very cute. I loved the walk cycle animation, very cute with the dust quickly gathering behind the hamster. I managed to get to the credits but I didn't figured out how to open the chest the fish gave me, was there a way to do so? I also really liked how you explained the whole game without using words, I think it's always much more effective to do so this way, well done. I don't know what else to say, it's a short game with a simple message and charm, good job!
Thanks for your kind words!! I was worried that the sign tutorial wouldn't be clear how to plant flowers. I'm glad you made it to the credits (you might have been the first jammer to find them--Nice!).
***SPOILER***
If you couldn't get the treasure chest to open, there is another character you may not have met south of the tree house.
Re: getting to credits, did you cheese the birb somehow? they're supposed to steal your seeds (if you cross the bridge), and you're supposed to need what you get from the chest to stop them from stealing your seeds, but there are at least 2 ways to cheese your way through.
Wow, at first I imagined I needed what was inside the chest to get through the bird, but then I had this awesome idea of throwing the seed to the other side of the river. I needed the river to freeze over on winter in order to do this, so to me it made perfect sense and I thought it was the intended way and that maybe the crying hamster wouldn't be the end of the game.
Yeah that's one of the ways that you can get around the birb. You're supposed to need what's in the chest though (which the birb doesn't steal, and you just give to them where they land in the forest). All the holes we find in "airtight" game design right? ;)
Big thanks for playing my game!
Yeah, nothing like a fresh mind playing through our games to show us the flaws of our puzzles, I know how it feels. Air tight game design is a myth, hahaha! Still, I think no matter what idea the player comes up with (the intended one or the one I did), they will feel good about it because the game didn't told them what to do, I think the joy of discovery is one of the strongest emotions games can tap into but it got lost on most big titles today due to the necessity to cater to everyone and don't make nobody confused. I really like those games that don't outright tell what you're supposed to do, being subtle is difficult and I commend your attempt at doing it.
I love the graphics/animations !
Congrats !
Thanks!
I've been watching your progress on discord, this was amazing to actually play!
Couldn't fill the hole up after planting the seed, but it was such a blast visiting the other creatures! I mean wow! That was so sweet! Each character's design immediately told me what they wanted. Congratulations on all the seasonal and musical changes as well!
PS: I expected my laptop to fry seeing this was a 3d game, but it played like a breeze! I don't know how and what you did!
Thanks! Yeah putting seeds in holes and then filling them by digging while facing away makes sense, but my signs don't actually make as much sense as I thought at first :sigh: It was a fun game to make. Thanks for playing!
RE:PS: I used a lot of particles and tried very hard to lower polys where I could. It probably helps that there are zero (0) meshes that aren't some kind of Godot primitive. When I bought my dev laptop I intentionally bought a middle of the run computer so that my games wouldn't chog for people who don't have good hardware.
No no! Your drawings made sense! I actually liked them as a design decision. It was just that after trying it a few times, I gave up and went around to explore.
I probably was missing some hitboxes or something hehe.
Great work!
Thanks!
This is a beautiful "game". I really enjoyed moving the little guy around and digging holes, but had no idea what I was doing or supposed to be doing.. The graphics are fun and playful. The only thing really changing was the seasons.. All in all just a lovely little simulation.
:)
Thanks for playing! Yeah it's supposed to be a little ambiguous what you're "supposed" to do :) I'm not sure if it's accomplishing the purpose I intended though. Did you ever arrive at a kind of "resignation"(maybe not the right word) to enjoy the scenery for a bit and then quit when you felt ready to move on?
I did just kind of wander around and enjoy the seasons changing.. Couldn't figure out the farming aspect. maybe a tutorial would have been nice. I liked digging holes though! :)
If you could please try my game out and review it, I would love to know what you think!
Yeah I made some signs as a half-way tutorial after some feedback, but I probably needed some little animations or something :sigh:
I'll play yours first! I'm gonna try to play as many as I can but I doubt I'll get through them all. Thanks friend!
