Well well well... this was most enjoyable! As has been said previously, it goes without saying that this game looks gorgeous, and I love the concept.

I'd love to see a bit more variety in the levels and music, but hey, that's game jams for you, eh?

Overall really well executed!

Developer

Thanks. Haha, yes you are spot on!

The presentation here is absolutely top-notch. From the cityscape in the background to the UI, it's all great. The gameplay doesn't quite match it, but it's still pretty fun. I would've liked for it to have evolved across the five buildings in some way. One last thing is that, given that I'm playing it in the evenings with f.lux on, it was pretty difficult to tell the purple and orange blocks apart.

Thanks for the feedback. You are right, the levels should have had more variation. I had a lot of ideas for each level, but ran out of time. I spent too much time on the visuals, so that's a lesson learned. Good point about the colors. I was actually considering making the pieces more individually recognizable by shape or content, in addition to color. This was mainly a color blindness consideration, but good point about f.lux, hadn't thought about that.

I love the concept of it. It's almost like a puzzle game with how you need to both coordinate where your main code is and the code that is following. The art style is amazing as well.

The aesthetic look of the game is amazing! Felt polished.

Gameplay was fun in the beginning, but after a while it got stale. Moving the block up and down for every level.

Overall, nice looking game.

Developer

Thanks, and yes the gameplay definitely needs some more variation.

One hell of a cool game !

I got pleasantly surptised by the gameplay, i expected some kind of point and click or puzzle game with the hacking and boy i wasn't ready and it was awesome !

The Retro sci fi cyberpunk aestetic is spot on, i especially likethe attention to detail in that you didn't put full focus on the screen but that there's the visible cityscape behind, animated and with the hacked signs updating after each level, plus the synthwave like tune is quite a banger.

If i really had to nitpick, i'd say for some situations i would have liked to have some way of separating the blue and magenta bits manually instead of just through moving, but really not that big of a deal since this didn't impair gameplay all that much, other than that no other issues and i managed to reach the end.

Had a blast, really well done :)

Thank you so much! To be honest I have been wanting to do something in this style for a long time, so it was really nice to finally get it out of my system.

I should definitely have spent more time on controls and gameplay. I kind of got lost in the visuals and ran out of time, so that’s a lesson learned. Having some sort of manual override for pink is a good idea.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback.

No problem, that wasn't that big of an issue but i thought it would be a nice feature to have, your game is already real good regardless :)

Love the art style! City in the back looks beautiful. Gameplay background is awesome, without taking too much attention from the foreground. How did you make the grid? Is it a tilemap?

Gameplay is very unique, you could definitely add more levels with some additional mechanics. Sometimes it was hard to set the height precisely, some control acceleration could maybe help there.

I have only noticed that hearts appear on buildings after 3rd building, it would be awesome if the animation was more flashy, maybe with some sound effect to accompany. But the game is great as is, mood is wonderful.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I did tweak the background quite a bit until I got it right. Sooo, this is probably not the way to do it. It's basically 23 labels (from top to bottom) where I change a random character at an interval. When a character is changed I instance a label on top of it, fade it out and kill it.

Yes, I should have spent a bit more time on the controls, it is frustrating moving a single row.

I agree, most people I have seen play it miss the changing buildings.

Thanks again, this is my first jam, so all feedback is greatly appreciated.

The neon-80s-cyberpunk-synthwave (or whatever) visuals are amazing. And the gameplay is also very interesting and executed really well. I can also see a lot of potential in developing this idea further.

Game looks very polished and gameplay is VERY interesting and innovative IMO.
This game will make great mobile game and it makes great first impression.

But after playing it to the very end here is my (critical) feedback:

- Music is great (but from  CC licence) , but with 5 levels it gets repeatable.
New music for each level will make it much much better.

- There are 5 levels, but from my perspective every level is the same.
Maybe if they unlocked one after another and each one was more and more difficult or will make some change to mechanics it will be less repeatable.

- My last issue is that it's hard to see where Theme was used.
I get that there are hearts and valentine setup, but Heartbeat theme is not part of any mechanic in the game or it's not obvious for me.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback.

I agree with pretty much everything you say. The plan was to have a twist on the theme in each level. Things like introducing different blocks and audio each time you progress, to make it more varied.

I would also have loved to do a boss battle at the end of each level, but I ran out of time. The difficulty does increase with each level though.

As for the theme, this is just my interpretation. I was going more for a vibe and a style, with the hearts and the streams you shoot looking like a cardiogram and so on.

Loved the art and graphics style of the gaming, it matches well with the hacking theme, the controls are smooth and it just plays great!, its fun, it'd be awesome if it was like a mobile game or something like that :P

This is one of my favourite games on here so far. Top-notch graphics, the two lovers shooting out all the hacking. Great concept. Lovely style. Thanks for making and sharing!
