This was a really cool concept. I especially loved the tetris game, having to actively work to NOT play Tetris successfully was a really good idea! The pac-man game I didn't like as much, the directional things are sometimes hard to click, and Pac-Man can go very far away from any ghosts, making it hard to reach. Also, the first two times I played it, on the hardest difficulty, pavman just head straight into a ghost and died without me doing anything.
I understood the difficulty, but it was confusing. One thing that was really confusing is that it's from Hardest to Easiest, which just isn't how the language of games work. The hardest difficulty being first made it look like it wasn't a difficulty selector.
Good job overall though!
Thanks a lot for the detailed comment.
Yeah, the difficulty level selector was a huge mistake, but also an important lesson about how doing something anti-intuitive can ruin the player experience. I agree on everything you said about Pacman: I just run out of time and had to spend the whole last day fixing the AI for html export.
Fun thing about the tetris game is that you can actually help any of both 'teams', in case you decide to don't force your brain and play tetris as you are supposed to.
With the Tetris game I felt a bit out of control. Otherwise good entry, I wish I had the time to program two games in one jam :D
nice game.
Nice idea, two minigames that comprise the main game. The Tetris game was going really fast, a bit hard to understand what was going on. Great submission nevertheless!
Thanks a lot for your comments.
As i read from other comments, everyone is choosing the hardest difficulty level, as my way to introduce dificulty levels was confusing. On pacman is ok, but tetris is unplayable on that level.
Thanks again for playing!
Nice job having 2 full games in your submission! I thought they were both clever takes on the originals, overall a very unique idea that fit the theme very well
Thanks for your comments! The funnier part of the project/experiment was thinking how to 'reverse' some classic games.
I loved the fact that you did a 2 in 1 game, pretty good for a 10 day jam, huh!
Congrats to that. ^_^
I liked the tetris one better, I think it's a brilliant idea. My only problem is that it is waaaaay to fast for me. I can't even try to process what block would be the best to choose and I often find myself choosing randomly out of pure panic. :D
But it is a chaotic kind of fun nevertheless.
Yeah, as i'm reading from other comments, i made a huge mistake on my way to introduce the difficulty levels, and you are choosing the most left one, that is the harder and faster. That is one of the problems to don't have anyone test your game before submiting :)
Uh, so one game in 10 days wasnt enough, you had to make 2 !
Very interesting, and different way from elektito to play as the ghosts ! The fact you're playing the guy managing them instead of the ghosts directly is nice, it is a fun game. Although if you pick Good old joe (my favourite guy), you instantly win, Pac man goes straight into a ghost.
The Tetris' IA is better at Tetris than me, which makes the game pretty hard unless I just click randomly on everything ignoring the scoring system, but that's not the point in an arcade game. It's a good concept, the only thing that bothered me in this game is that when you pick your item, the one previously selected instantly goes down ; it shortens the time you have to think a lot, but it is not a huge issue.
Great submission, congratulations !
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Game was working fine on desktop, but when, the last day, i tried it on html export, i realized pacman's AI was too time consuming and game was unplayable. So i had to quickly reduce it's process, which made the most easier game levels (like good old joe) plain stupid.
Nice to see another pacman themed game in the jam, and yours a twofer! :) I like the south wall better personally, but then again I obviously prefer pacman to tetris. It takes a particular bit of ahead thinking to be right, although I'm not sure the ghosts always work as I think they do. If you try control them by placing arrows close by, you run the risk of getting it wrong, and if you do it farther away, they might not go as planned.
The tetris game is insane! It's just a tad too fast for my brain. I mostly ended up clicking in random. I also encountered a freeze in there, where all the boxes were empty and the ghost up top just did nothing.
And the brighter side, I love that we have several "pavmans" to choose from. Not quite sure how different their behavior is, but maybe I just wasn't paying attnetion.
All in all, great work!
Now both of you can make the perfect Blinky : The Siege of Qwasd Castle game together ; combining Elektito's pac-man pathfinding and the arrows mechanics from Avatarer, you should get an even greater game !
Let's face it. It was fun to make the game, and nice experiment with side effects (i realized later that you can play for both 'teams', helping Puvmam to don't meet the ghosts or survive in Tetris). But game needs at least one more week of playing, testing and tunning to make it enjoyable. Specially the pacman is too fast, chaotic and has too many arrows around.
The several 'Pavmams' are the difficulty levels (the most right, the easier one). As i can read for other comments, i was unclear on this
Yeah, i actually sort of assumed the left one is the easier one, just because it was at the left! :)
