I'm taking into account that this game is a WIP.
First off, I'd like to tell you that I'm impressed by the amount of stuff that you managed to accomplish in 9 days, and even more impressed by what you left out.
Yours was clearly a humongous, majestic project. I do have an idea about how time consuming it is to produce 3D models and animations, texture everything and so forth... You did a great job overall.
I loved that you managed to put a lot of animations into the player and NPCs. The run cycle was a bit off: I didn't see any "up" or "down" phases, so it looked a bit funny. However, I really (and I mean: reeeeeally) loved the idle (?)/dancing (?) animation of the black bugs. V●ᴥ●V
I think that you could've added some of the things you've put aside in the game: for example, letting the NPCs stop and talk to you when you interact with them with a simple short message (or a random one from a pool of a few messages). In general, I think that if you put the work (and time) to make something, you should showcase it. Otherwise, to me (and this is my opinion; it could be wrong or not apply to your case/game) you're cutting out something that's already there.
To me, the world was too large for the game itself... The maps were huge with respect to the character, and it felt like I was moving too slowly. It took me a really long while to detect the dump zone.
I was surprised that you put choices that could define the player character (I'm talking about the doctor). However, the selection mechanic was a bit off. I think that selecting the option with the mouse and/or move between choices with the WASD/arrows would've been more smooth.
The camera movement was smooth, and I liked the sound/music. I liked that the tutorial blended with the game dialogues. I found it nice that you added some message when you try to use the gun in the village.
Overall, I enjoyed the game. Thanks for sharing it, and kudos again for the 3D assets! V●ᴥ●V
Thanks a lot!
About the large empty scenario, the idea was to fill it with objects so you would be travelling through interesting places and NPCs all that way. A bit like how in Assassin’s Creed sometimes you have to walk aaaaaall the city to get to where you want, but because there is a lot of buildings and people, it doesn’t feel boring. That was the idea. But I ran out of time and could not add the objects =(
I forgot to mention it, so I'll just add it here: I loved the disk at the bottom right of the screen during transitions. It felt... retro, and it fit the main character and the ambiance. Definitely a nice touch, imho.
Again, kudos.
Really enjoyed what you have you created so far and would love to see Stephanie back in a later jam or continued journey else where.
Don't know how you managed to accomplish all this in a single week but props to you and keep at it.
Greetings from Discord land. So I'm really glad you submitted this even if you haven't yet delivered all that you want to. It shows strong promise, but the nature of an RPG is it is extremely difficult to create one in a short time-span.
Love the humour in the dialogues (exclamation mark - go figure!) and the hints of a bigger world (pirates etc.) behind this one.
If Stephanie comes back in a later jam I'll be interested to see where this ends up
Thanks!
The bigger world thing is because this is already the 4th game in Stephanie’s universe, the other 3 were also jam games. They are explained in the game page ( https://madparrot.itch.io/dustblast-gwj60 )
I've said most of what I want to say on the Discord server, but to reiterate: I enjoyed this, and I think it has plenty of potential for a larger game. I really hope you keep working on it!
I found a bug: if you’re in the quest to find Rob, do not enter any door. Entering a house and leaving makes Rob disappear forever and you have to start the game over.
Cool
The game wont load for me after the "Chapter 1 An unexpected landing" its just frozen for some reasons
