Twin-stick hack-and-slash

How does your game tie into the theme?
It really doesn't at this point. I intended to have the boss emerge from a forge but ran out of time.

nice game, short and sweet! I really appreciate the option to skip the lore at the start, it makes it easier to revisit the game. more games need a choice like that!

unfortunately, I wasn’t able to play with a controller because of two issues: 1) the Windows build is missing the pck file so I wasn’t able to run it, and 2) controller triggers (RT/LT) don’t work in web exports (known issue to be fixed in 4.3). however, the web version worked well with keyboard+mouse.

I amassed around 70 mushrooms before I realized I was supposed to break the gate, so I was able to face-tank the boss while spamming heal. I checked the lore and it does tell me to break the gate, but for some reason it didn’t occur to me before I randomly walked up and noticed the gate’s health bar. I think it’d be nice with some clearer in-game directions.

also, I found it a bit awkward that the upgrade menu appeared instantly as I attacked the last enemy, before I could even see them die. a short delay would make it less jarring.

nitpicks aside, this is an impressive first jam game, great work! and thanks for the shout-out in the credits, I didn’t expect that haha

Thanks for all the feedback Kas! I didn’t know about the .pck file until now. I’ll get that updated if I can!

I tried to add a delay after the last kill, but it just ended up spawning mobs endlessly. I decided to throw it on the backburner for the polishing phase and didn’t get to it among other things like making a real boss (instead of a big enemy) and play-testing it more.

I’m glad you liked it! I hope to bring more fun mechanics and good design into my future games.

Fast and fun– good work!

Solid color palette, very polished, crazy good looking for a first game. The zweihander hitbox could use some work, it kinda felt too small at times. Overall great job, and very good polishing, all the info there is and menus is kinda crazy for a jam game.

Well made! Had a lot of fun with the enemy waves. Reached the boss on the second attempt, but couldn't clear it. Most of the time I had enough mushrooms, but was forgetting to heal. I think the difficulty curve was alright. You could consider adding more attacks in future, like area-of-effect, push-back, etc., plus more variety in enemies too. Also maybe an option to upgrade health as well. Sometimes I felt the wave got completed although I could see an enemy still standing. The lore, sound and graphics are coherent, and give a good setting for the fight. Nice work!

Great job for your first game! The only comment I have is that the low health sound is really obnoxious.

Awesome for a first game ever, especially in just a week! My first game sucked, so I've gotta give you a good rating for that at least.

It took me a few attempts to beat the boss, but I eventually managed to just hide behind one of the pillars and cheese it lol

Developer

Thanks for the rating! I wanted to have the boss do a ranged AoE attack if the player was out of sight for too long but didn’t get time to implement it.

love the color palette and the gameplay is pretty fun. Personnaly i couldn't attack with the controller but the keyboard and mouse worked flawlessly. I think the game could be more balanced but it is still fun

For a first game ever, it's very impressive! The graphics and sound are great. It feels good to play too. It does become pretty easy pretty fast, especially if you just max damage. Would have loved to see the boss fight. Great job ya'll

The core is very polished. Graphics and sound are on point. I do, however, wish there was more depth to it. I feel like it's very easy to become overpowered and just kill everything. I had 100 heals by the time I had enough.

Some suggestions:

More enemy variety would be nice. Maybe some bosses or enemies with ranged attacks?

It would probably be a bit more fun if you had to stand still and wait for like a second to use the heal, kinda like in Dark Souls and similar games. It adds a bit of risk and tension.

Overall, though, I'm very impressed!

Thanks for the feedback! I was originally going to have four enemy types with different speeds, attack, and health but ran out of time. The boss also was supposed to be tougher with varied abilities but I barely got the game submitted.

Yeah, that makes sense. It's always difficult to cram everything you want into a game when you have a deadline. But I think it could be a cool game if you kept working on it!

Awesome, awesome graphics and juiciness. It appears that I cannot attack whenever I want: LMB does not respond every time, and my LT/RT do not resond at all. Did I overlook something? LB and RMB respond very well, though.

Developer(+1)

I haven’t had any issues regarding LMB on the webpage. However, my RT/LT does not work either on itch. Controller works perfectly fine in the windows build, however.
