Wildcards Used
"Give Me a Minute"

Game Description
You have less than 8 minutes to remember what you can. It won't be enough time to remember everything. Run around and explore a lonely landscape or sit in the same spot, waiting. The Platinum White will come either way.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The player is trapped in a strange liminal landscape and is surrounded by an impending white void that grows larger and larger. I tried to capture a lot of the aesthethic and emotional qualities of "the void" in this game.

really interesting game. it's kind of a harrowing idea, this person trying to regain their memories but they're doomed to run out of time. i was really engaged through the whole thing

the visual effect is cool, but was too strong for me. I have a larger monitor and the game automatically set to full screen. I had to squint to be able to tell what anything was

this was a really creative one and i enjoyed playing it. nice work! congrats on the submission

Thank you for playing! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed the concept and found it be engaging. I agree with you on the monitor thing, I tested the game at a few different screen sizes and it was definitely trickier to make out what was happening at a bigger screen size. Definitely going to look into how other low-res games handle this kind of thing for the future.

Not really much of a game, rather I would call it an experience, which nonetheless it got me curious.
I love this pixel aesthetics, like some kind of an old application that wasn't meant to be run.
This would be a cool start for some kind of ARG!
Not really sure how to rate this submission though.. not much of a gameplay, but I see how you've captured very well this feeling of being trapped in the void.

Thank you so much for playing!! I think this kind of concept would definitely be fun for an ARG if I had the resources to pull something like that off. I definitely intended for PLATINUM WHITE to be a pretty solitary thing, but I feel like it'd be interesting to come back to this idea in the future with player collaboration involved in piecing together the story.

After I read through I think all the speech bubbles I've tried to collect them all in 1 playthrough, not sure if I was meant to. We don't have much time, better use well the little we do have. Not sure if something will happen if I do, but even search of meaning fits the theme.

Thank you so much for playing and for going through the effort to try to find all of the speech bubbles :)

I liked the game. It feels like a walk through witticisms, like reading through a collection of comic strips. A nice embodiment of the theme 'void'. I liked how one of the speech bubbles changed the subject from 'he' to 'it' to 'they'. A nice use of language to add to the mystique. I'm sure there are still some speech bubbles which I haven't found yet on the map. They are hard to see from far away.

On my first play-through, I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do and went straight to one of the spiral staircases leading into the sky. I had a hard time not falling, and then I did fall. The timer went out and the game ended, and I was left feeling, "what did I just play?" But, when I tried it the second time, I figured out that you were supposed to find speech bubbles (the things shaped like this: ...). Then, the game turned into a hunt for speech bubbles for me! The game was fun even though I wasn't doing anything apart from travelling the map and looking at weirdly-shaped things and looking for speech-bubbles. I felt very slow, though. Shift made it feel a little faster, but I wasn't sure if it was just an illusion (which adds to the theme of the game!).

Thank you for playing!! I'm glad you had fun exploring my weird little landscape and reading through some of the thoughts spread around it :)

Incredible, you really know how to set a mood perfectly~! The white void and just the sheer ambiance you used to communicate silence was super well done. The style of your game visually was incredibly unique and the black and white noise really brought me to immersing myself in your bizarro liminal space. Game kind of reminds me of Return of the Obra Dinn, but I would love to know what sort of inspiration you had for this piece when coming up with the visuals.

Regardless, good stuff!

Thank you so much for playing! Games like Return of the Obra Dinn and Who's Lila? were definitely big inspirations graphically. I had recently played through some of Kitty Horroshow's Haunted Cities series which were really interesting from the perspective of crafting strange 3D worlds. Lots of the weird shapes and structures were definitely also inspired by some of the places in the Pathologic games. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it :)

I liked the art style! It was kinda laggy, but it didn't bother me too much. The ending felt jarring. On the other hand, what a creative way to end! There wasn't a lot of difficulty, but the story made it interesting.

Overall, the game has left me with slightly split feelings. Good job!

Great visuals and great narrative, though please add some performance settings next time (even if it’s some DOF) my pc started sounding like some kind of airplane

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm really glad to hear your enjoyed the visuals and the story. Sorry about those performance issues though, this was my first time working with Godot, so I'm still learning about how to optimize games like these. Hope you enjoyed your time with it regardless :)

ayy this should win just for the looks. i assume its a noise shader but looks so atrsy. very nice.

Developer

Thank you! The graphics use a blue noise dithering shader, while scaling down the resulting 1 bit black and white image to get the noisy effect. I'm glad you enjoyed playing :)
