Great little arcade shooter with a great atmosphere! Games like Asteroids and, more recently, Nova Drift had me wanting for more slippery movement, but I did like how precise and technical you could be with the fast deceleration rate.
Great work!
Thanks for playing! I did consider slippery movement, it all came down to not having the time to play test all the different possibilities
I grew up on these kinds of games in arcades, so this was great to see - really took me back! Loved the vector graphics look, and the sounds. A nice addition would be more visual feedback when you get hit and lose a life. At first I thought I was able to take a few hits before noticing the lives going away on each hit. The new ship is just instantly there and you don't really know it's a new one. Also, you keep getting hit so you can instantly lose all 3 lives.
That's pretty minor though - overall I really liked it. Really good job!
Thanks for playing, and great feedback. I'll remember that for the next game I do in this style, having a respawn animation should make it clear when you're hit and can serve as invulnerable time so you don't instantly lose all lives, thanks!
Fun! I noticed that the player can shoot as fast as they can click, would you consider adding the ability to click and hold to shoot repeatedly? I Loved the graphics style paired with the retro audio, very fitting for the arcade feel. Great job :)
Thanks for playing! I did have a think about different controls, if I had time I would have implemented click and hold too and tried them both out, in the end had to go with what I had. I feel if I'd done click and hold I'd need to add some sort of cool down, maybe rate of fire decreases over time?
Yeah that is a good idea, some system that incentivizes players to not hold the button or spam click would work well. And yeah I get that, tons of stuff I wanted to add to my game as well without the time to implement haha
Loved the vibes!
Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it
This is a neat arcade game! The graphics and audio work well together to evoke a retro feel. I particularly liked the simple grid background since it gives a reference frame for player movement unlike a blank background. The random power ups that the enemies get when the player gets a boost was a nice way to tie in the jam theme. The difficulty was a bit high for me and I died a few times, but I managed to complete all the stages. I think the way the projectiles are almost as fast as the player was the reason; it was tricky dodging all the beams and missiles.
Nice work! I had fun playing it.
Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback, I probably should have added more variety in the enemies, then it would have been easier to slowly ramp up the difficulty each wave
Fun game! Love the Asteroids aesthetic and the color scheme you chose, and the camera effect when I died :)
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Very fun! I felt like the time slow was very powerful. Also what was causing my weapons to jam!?!?
Thanks for playing, that's one of the random negative effects from the power ups, each will give one positive and one negative effect
Fun game! I managed to make it to wave 6 of 8. Though I wasn't quite sure how the upgrades were supposed to work. Maybe I was just unlucky but seemed like most of them just jammed my weapons.
Thanks for playing, each of the upgrades does one positive thing based on the icon and one negative thing chosen at random, so something else will have happened as well as the weapons being jammed, like activating your shield or freezing the enemies for a few seconds
