Thank you for playing! It's definitely a bit difficult! In hindsight, I wish I had dialed the difficulty back a little bit more for a game-jam, especially the rooms 5 and 8.

The music was done by my partner, Sheena. When recording the frog sounds, I couldn't help but think of No-Face from Spirited Away. On my todo, that I didn't have time for, was making them blend in with the other sounds a bit better.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! I was excited about the idea once I settled on it.

Could you say which parts felt unresponsive? Really curious to hear your feedback!

Thanks for playing! It was fun to mess with that old platformer trope :)

And yeah, 😅. In hindsight, I would have only included one bird in to make the difficulty curve more a bit more forgiving.

Ah, I think I'm just misremembering tight corridor wall-jump examples (it's been a while!) combined with not being used to playing on a keyboard. I just booted up Celeste and Guardian of Arishima, and you're right– they behave really similarly.  😅

I was recently playing Dead Cells with a friend, which has a totally different mechanic of shimmying up the wall if you keep holding towards the wall, so maybe that was in my muscle memory!

That makes sense! One trick for that, if memory serves, is to increase your acceleration on the way down, but not on the way up.

Aww, thanks for the kind words! First platformer and first game, really, since I was a kid. (I made a small toy game for my sister's birthday recently as a gift to her.)

I'm glad the visuals landed! The lighting and shadows are great at hiding my beginner pixel art skills. 😅

I was really excited to play with the theme– I'm glad the progression felt good! There was a lot more I wanted to explore, for example growing to a size where you could walk on spikes or not be affected by predators, but I figured folks' time/focus would be limited in a jam.

Thanks again for the thoughtful comment.

That's amazing! The buildings are especially nice.

I remember being genuinely shocked when I was chased down by a group of farmers. 😂

Really nice!

Thank you for playing and for the super kind note, moebtz! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Recording the sound effects was one of my favorite parts. 😌

Wow, great job!

Great job on all the art! That's amazing!

I *think* for the wall jump, the fact that the player turns around and accelerates the other way so quickly means that if they are still holding down the direction of the wall after the jump than they will double back too soon. This is especially hard for keyboard players (a lot in a game jam).

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! I would have loved to introduce new mechanics more slowly and intentionally, and to spread the levels out into smaller chunks.

And agreed! Mario’s so floaty and much more forgiving.

Thanks again!

You’re so welcome! Excited to see if you go for it!

Awww, that’s incredible that you got to work on it as a fam!

Fun lil' game with a very nice feel to it! The art is wonderful. Did you do it yourself?

Great work!

Nice lil' foundation for a tower defense game!

Nice lil' foundation for a tower defense game!

Cool and fun concept!

Got a lovely lonely and sad feeling from this!

Fun lil' game! Art is really nice, of course, and the dialog was fun. Tutorial was a nice touch!

Great work!

Nice concept! I hope you build it out more!

Did you do the art yourself?

Really cute start!

I smiled big at this! Very creative and fun. Great job! :)

Fun lil' platformer! Did you do all the art?

As others mentioned, I had a hard time figuring out the timing and direction of the double jump, but running around and swinging the sword was really satisfying!

Great work!

Thank you for playing and leaving a note!

Nice lil' tower defense game! It seems like a lot of the fundamentals are there. Great work!

Really enjoyed this. Really creative take on the theme. Your hand-drawn art was a really nice touch and the music tied in really well. I started boppin' my head as soon as I opened the store!

Great job!

Really fun concept!

A tutorial would have been really nice, to help those of us not familiar with Conway's Game of Life. What was the game loop? I couldn't quite tell the consequences of my actions, other than depleting the charge of moving without a trail.

Great work!

Fun (and anxiety inducing) little concept!

Unfortunately this isn't launching on mac!

Nice lil' puzzle platformer!

Really cute and fun puzzle game! Awesome that you did all the art and audio.

It took me a bit to figure out that the sink fixed the broken beaker– A small tutorial might have been helped with that!

Great work!

What a fun and wholesome game! The graphics are lovely, the sound effects are had me smiling.

Really wonderful that you were able to do this with your kids! Looking forward to watching the BTS video. :)

Great work!

Well, I certainly did blow myself up a lot!

Fun lil' game :) Did you all do all of the art yourselves?

Congrats!

I loved it! Had a smile on my face the whole time, as someone who also made all the sounds for my entry with mic+mouth.  :)

Even being so simple, a tutorial or some instructions about the goal would have done wonders.

Glad I didn't miss this little gem.

Very cool concept! The computer was really satisfying to interact with, and the writing was really well done! Great job!

Nice job for your first jam :)

Heads up- making the game full-screen throws things out of whack a bit!

Amazing to see a racer in the jam! I didn't quite understand the mechanic of the environment around being destroyed? Was the road I was driving on collapsing behind?

I could imagine that this would be really fun multiplayer, to be able to see who can cut the most corners.
