Great entry and wonderful message/theme!

Awesome that you did your own graphics and music. The music was a bit over-powering, but the piano theme for the fire worked really well.

A few notes!

  • The viewport size was glitched and small.
  • To make the chopping sounds less monotonous, you could slightly pitch bend each one within a small range, or record several chopping sounds.
  • I wanted to pause and take some notes, but there was no pause. Tiny thing but would have been nice!
  • Reading the other comments, I do think some indication of how to approach foresting to contain the fire would have been nice. I chopped the nearest trees in an expanding circle, and when the fire took over pretty quickly, there wasn't a clear indication that there was another way and I figured that was just the extent of it!

Great work!

Thanks for the feedback. I only found out about the viewport glitch an hour before the deadline, could only reproduce it on some machines and not others. So not really sure what is causing it.

Good idea on the chopping sounds and pause menu!

I was curious how much experimentation people were willing to do to try to change the outcome if they were unguided. Good to know should give at least a little more push to maybe try something else.

The music is really great, I think the atmosphere when the fire takes over and how you've depicted the fire works wonderfully.

Really interesting take on the theme! Loved the personification of the fire and the two songs used. Really nice cute little game :)

Interesting game, music and art were definitely good. Chopping felt a little unresponsive at times. Overall, nice job.

Played it a second time to see if I could get different endings (and I did!) Very on point with the theme. Nice work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

awesome! Yeah there are currently only three endings, but i would have liked to added more.

Nice submission, especially for your first, liked the art and music!

Little bit of a bug on my first play through the fire just sat there, so it didn't burn any trees and my greed save the day.

Second play through the fire worked and I lost bigly...

Developer

thanks! Probably wasn’t actually a bug and you instead found the optimal strategy of clear cutting around where the fire spawns haha.  If I developed it more I’d want to make it more clear that fire just has nowhere to spread to and so burns out where it is.

Cute little game! I wish there was a way to fight the fire rather than just watching it happen but I love the concept

Developer

thanks! Yeah I wanted to figure out a way to add that in but didn’t have time to figure out a way that felt good

Cool idea for the theme ! I liked the music and the story that I wasn't expecting when starting the game. The visuals are simple but cool and adding a little money counter adds a good meaning to chopping trees. it was fun to play, Great job !

Music was great. I managed to get 2700 in the end.

Great little game. Music gets a bit intense but adds to the experience. Liked the fire animation, well done! Nice first entry!

Developer

Thank you! It’s the first game I’ve ever made so that means a lot.
