What the Duck

Game Description
Our game is about a detective duck who lives a Hannah Montana lifestyle. By day, he fights crime; by night, he fights his demons.

How does your game tie into the theme?
We took advantage of the light and dark theme to explore the duality of ducks. Light and dark, good and evil. You never know what a duck is thinking.

Fantastic!  I only wish I could play with a gamepad because I want to play everything with a gamepad.  I didn't notice the files button till literally the last one and realized I botched it initially.  The voices really put it over the top for me.

Really fun game! The gritty noir style and audio with the silly duck detective and other animals is an amazing contrast! Very well executed and fun to play!

Fired for incompetence. Sounds about right :(

Super fun detective game. I loved the twist in the game.

Pros:

  • Great use of the pixel art
  • Loved the dialog
  • Appreciated being able to skip dialog when I had to redo a room
  • Good choice of music and sounds
  • Unique Approach to the Jam requirements

Critiques:

  • Would have been nice to be able to adjust volume
  • Sometimes when examining a crime scene, if I was over evidence and a patrol came by, The evidence interaction would lose focus to the patrol and not focus back when patrol went by.
  • Once we knew our role in the game, would have been nice to know the next location before choosing what to take with us.

This is just so good. It is charming, well written, the music is great, the art is great. The plot gets delightfully more ridiculous as you play and it is just so much fun.

The implementation of the theme was also very original compared to the rest of the games I played so far. It is not a literal approach to it, and I really like that.

Great job, super impressive!

Wow an entire detective novel shoved into one game jam! I haven't played such a deep narrative driven game in a while!

The mechanic of planting evidence is really creative (5* right there!). I enjoyed picking out stuff to frame the fellow animals. Although I messed up more than once (dropping evidence aimlessly, cleaning them up in front of the police), it was not punishing as you had thoughtfully added in checkpoints!

The writing is also engaging and humorous!

It's clearly a labor of love! Well done both!
