Really creative use of the theme! I think you have a great base to build out the game, and the mechanics you have already are very interesting. I think there are a lot of ways to expand on the concept here, so definitely keep going on it!

Great game! The idea and plot is pretty funny, the gameplay is quite fun, the visuals are fitting and the soundtrack is a total bop! I'll definitely wanna check it out again if more levels are added too :)

Great submission, Looking forward to seeing more!

Pros:

  • Funky jive background music.
  • Easy controls
  • Initial difficulty was good to learn on
  • Artwork was a fun Pixel art, and blended well with the music

Critiques:

  • Ability to adjust audio levels
  • Dialog was really fast.

Thanks a lot for playing. Will watch the video of your stream later! Your critique is absolutely valid:

  •  Music was crammed in "last minute" so we could not afford to potentially break the game with a settings menu.
  • Dialog was probably fast because we were the only ones testing it and knew all messages already

I didn't finish it but that was interesting. In fact I'm not sure how the gameplay works but the jazz music loop give me some curiosity. I loved how the character walks, like a moonwalker.

Developer

Thanks for playing. Curious: how much far you play? I'd say the gameplay is obvious after the first level, but I am biased of course. Typical playthrough time is <5 min as far as I can tell.

I played for more than five minutes but restarted the game twice and reached level 5 I think but completely randomly. Most of the time I'm a very chaotic player haha. But I'm going to try this game again to maintain some sort of gamer dignity . :D

This is a fun little game! I love the variety of light sources you were able to come up with -- it kept each level fresh and gave a bit of extra challenge. The writing is honestly quite funny, and does a good job of setting the tone for the game and giving it some personality. Also, I actually laughed like an idiot at "Motham City", so good job for that! The art is minimal but cute, and the lighting effects are good. The music is similarly minimal but well-executed.

Overall this is a great entry and I think it would be fun to see some more levels with new types of challenges!

This was superb and I would love to see this expanded into a longer game!

Fun game. I like that you took the route of being the "villain". Using the fireflies as a light source was clever. Really liked the music, though it did feel like it stuttered once in a while.

Developer

stuttering is interesting. it does not loop super perfectly may that be it? so a stutter after a minute or so? if it's more it might be a problem with the web export?... gotta investigate

Nice game, I liked the puzzles, and the mechanics seemed original from my point of view. Congrats on completing the jam!

Cool puzzles, I completed it in 330 seconds, took a while to understand what to do as I was expecting to be able to see the moths (not sure if it was a bug, but I couldn't see any) but worked well once I got it

Developer

uh, could it be that your monitor is set to somewhat dark brightness settings? we feared that the whole gloomy setting might be a problem for some ppl dependent on setup.

thanks for playing!

I won in 290 seconds!

This was a really cool game. The story and concept, the art, the puzzles, I've never seen anything quite like it. It was fun to figure out what was going on and how to get these moths where I wanted them to go, and I'm impressed with how much creative design you managed to put into a playable game with unique mechanics in such a short amount of time.

I would have been glad to play more levels!

Developer(+1)

I am crying. This really means a lot, thank you.

We had plans for more levels involving spiders as enemies and whatnot. I the end its a race against time and we had to prioritize.

That was a fun game! I really liked the puzzles, they were very creative and satisfying to complete.
Maybe it was just me, but the Itch.io information blocked the top right of the screen where the action button information was. So it took me a little bit to figure out the start of the game. So maybe a pop up or something explaining that could help.

Overall a fun creative game :)

Developer

Thanks for your great feedback. Sorry you ran into some issues - did you run the game in fullscreen (bottom right button provided by itch) or in the browser window? Tbh either should work but I would assume that fullscreen may be best in your case.

Either way we should put the controls in the description...

I just ran it in windowed mode. Fullscreen does fix the issue :)
