Really powerful writing and vocal performance at the beginning, and cool use of several overlapping whispers to create ambiance! The effect had me noticing different parts of the whispers at different moments and I was really pleased to hear it was procedural and not a loop. The atmosphere was definitely suffocating and I found myself turning down the volume just to try to focus on progression. I would be really interested to see if this game was developed how maybe the whispers grow stronger when the wave of despair grows nearer, or if the whispers could guide you to your objective somehow. Really effective atmosphere, but I struggled too much with the difficulty to see much of the game. Great job, and thank you for making such a cool statement piece!
Heeey, I am very glad you appreciate the audio ambience! I am aware that the gameplay was not the best, and hopefully next time I will focus more on that! As for the whispers guiding you, that's actually a neat idea that I could one day be used if a similar game was developed. On a bigger scale, of course.
But anyhow, thank you so much for your feedback and I am glad you liked it despite the underwhelming gameplay! :D
I wouldn't say the gameplay is underwhelming! I think the mechanics are cool but just a little too challenging for me (bad gamer). It's a jam so a perfect balance is pretty hard to attain, but I think you put forward a lot of cool ideas you should be proud of, especially if you did this as a solo dev! Also in my previous comment the "suffocating" comment was meant as a compliment, but I realize due to the theming of the game it might have sounded more critical than I meant hehe. Congrats again on the submission, this one has stuck with me more than most!
I really liked the narration at the beginning (albeit it was a little long), and I was really hyped to see what was to come. But to be honest, the gameplay was a little underwhelming, and the platforms disintegrating eventually put me in a spot where I could do nothing but die. Amazing job on the voiceover and sound design though!
Thank you so much for your feedback. And yess, the gameplay was indeed underwhelming and not at all to my liking aswell. I wished so much to tweak it further, but sadly had little time to do so. As for the bug you mentioned, it sucks big time that I never had it myself or else I would've fixed it by adding checkpoints, making the cloud not follow immediately after you die and bring back the disintegrating planks... Next time I hope to think of such things, or let other people test it first! And thank you, thank you; I am glad you liked the audio!
Great, now I will be haunted by whispers when I go to sleep today...
Really cool game, but I got to admit: The game started SOOO strong, I was very thrilled about what's next and how the story setup will convert to the gameplay, but then, well... I am not good at platformers and the controls were reacting too fast for me, so I constantly fell off :-/ It's tough always having to start from the bottom. Had to quit eventually, sorry... Curious though if there was more of the story in the endgame, but I cannot get there.
I wish there were a separate rating for background story/setting/lore. You clearly deserve 5 stars there.
Hahaaha, I hope you slept well in the end!! :D
Thank you, thank you for your kind words. I fully agree that the controls felt pretty floaty and not satisfying, but I tried tweaking it abit and thought I would do more by the end. But I never did because I could only spend little time on the game by the last days.
However you rating the game a 5/5 for story fills me with great joy. A story-based game is what I would love to do someday, so you thinking I did a good job at that makes me happy. And yes, there is a bit of a monologue given by the ghost of the princess once you reach the top. I wished to add more lines given by both the narrator and the princess once you reach certain levels on the tower (already had them voiced and ready), but I sadly never got to it for the lack of time..
I was not expecting narration! The game is a little bare-bones but the sound design is off the charts! I got stuck at a point because the platforms all disintegrated leaving me nowhere to land and I was out of combo so I just kinda had to wait to die. The lateral movement of the character was a bit hard to control. The kick-flip jump was cool, and the starry boost mode was nice. I especially liked how the creepy whispers grew louder as the grasping hands got closer.

I am really happy you and others seem to appreciate the lore I added. I wished to add much more, and actually there are voice acted lines I had at the ready that would play in the middle. But sadly I got tangled up in other stuff (mostly real-life stuff that prevented me from working on the game the whole week), and couldn't add more narration or even fix the floaty controls because I fully agree that the gameplay itself... does not feel so good. But again, I am glad you found something you liked. Adding story is certainly my favorite part of any game, and if it were up to me I would make a story-focused game.
This was one of the overall highest ratings I gave to any of the games that I just reviewed in my livestream!
Oh wow!! Thank you so much; I just had a look at your vid. Certainly didn't expect my little game to get a high rating. Thank you though! <33
Really love the voice-over and the sound effects! The whispers make it very creepy, and you do feel surrounded by them. The controls felt pretty floaty, and I feel like I overshot the platforms a lot because it was hard to know how far I'd go. Also once the hands started and I died to them, I would just keep dying over and over because they respawned at the bottom with me. Overall really love the atmosphere, mechanics could just use some subtle tweaks. Great job!
Thank you so much! I just had time to look at the reviews now, and seeing so many people fall victim to this dying problem makes me feel like such a dingus ;)
I agree that the controls are not the best (they are outright BAD ahhaha), I really tried tweaking some of the variables I set in my code but couldn't get it to feel right and so I thought I would work on other stuff for the game before going back but I never did...
