High points for originality! I got old school city sim vibes (it actually reminded me mainly of Monopoly Tycoon for some reason) and I like the concept. I saw your replies to some of the other comments about having to cut down the scope for various reasons - I think you did very well under the circumstances!

This idea was so original! The only think I would add to this game is the ability to bid back and forth with your competitor. It would also be great if there were other competing companies that you have to bid against.

Amazing work with this game!

Thank you. We deliberatly aimed for originality here, as we had other ideas related to tower which we assumed to be picked up by several jammers. So your appreciation of originality with respect to the theme means a lot! I am not exaggerating.

In the very beginning we limited the scope to one competitor with the option to add more when in polishing phase. As explained in other comments, this jam has been a tough for us time-wise, because of sickness, etc.

In the end we are happy about anyone who had a good time/experience with our submission

Initial thoughts were "wow" at the ambition of this submission. Rare to see in a jam a functional business sim with a full city environment!

  • Smooth edge-scrolling / zooms makes for easy navigation around a city scene like this.
  • Like the narrative intro and the ability to input a business name at the beginning. Personalizes the playing experience and adds that touch of a "full game" feel.
  • UI very well done and shows pertinent info.
  • Perfect length for a jam submission. Lost my first playthrough with a 39% market share. But learned valuable lessons (mainly to always bid $5000 and buy the $10,000 large tower) and came back strong to rebuild my business empire. I feel I'm prepared to take on the real world and put Comcast out of business. Will report back!

This was a two-person collaboration? Holy cow. These devs are ones to watch!

Thanks a lot. We feel like we do not deserve the praise, you gave us. As explained in other comments due to overscoping, team members getting sick and life issues, in the end we had to cut down a lot on complexity and playtesting, resulting in a game that runs basically on some default values, sadly.

Still I am very glad that you had a good experience exploring the game! This is all we care about and that means a lot to us! Cheers!

Sometimes the biggest accomplishment is surviving the difficult tides of development cycles and actually reaching the other side, when failure is otherwise the likelier option given trying circumstances (like team issues). There were 650+ sign-ups to this jam, and you guys are part of the few 153 who completed. When you all eventually release a game you're proud of, it'll be because of your work ethic, skills accrued, and persistence that you showed on Cell Tower. Hang your heads high—this game was an achievement!

One word : Addicting!
The SimCity/Cities:Skyline etc. vibes are strong in this one!
The music is soothing, the controls hit the spot. And yeah it's a simple gameloop but an addicting one! Well done!

Thanks for your kind review! We don't feel very confident about this one because we had to cut short on a lot of aspects due to time issues. So your words mean a lot!

Seems like I picked the right time to try this one out!

I liked the idea of it, though I’m not great at these types of games where I’m trying to judge stuff based on stats, I started trying to play smart but ended up just buying every plot and putting a big tower down. It seemed that the competitor always bid the same amount maybe?

Developer

Thank you for trying it out.

Let's just say that we planned to adjust the values after a good chunk of playtesting. If you look at our submission time, you can get a rough idea of how much playtesting/balancing time we had :)

Alright guys: I just wanted you to know that the page has been updated with binaries for each platform. windows should work now and there is a help if you get stuck!

Submitted

I tried to run the binary, but It said it's missing a .pck file so I couldn't play it :(

Developer (1 edit)

thanks a lot for that feedback. we develop on linux and forgot to check the windows export. which was indeed missing the pck! we requested an urgent bugfix!

Developer

btw: the binary is fixed now. forgot to ping you. sorry

Alright I got to try it this time and it's very impressive. It looks and feels like a classic city builder. My company Company Inc. pretty much just bought every tower it could and won the game with 75% market share. I would have liked more choices to make. It must have taken a lot to get to this level of interactivity though. The camera controls were good, the UI was useful and functional, and the city looks nice. Solid work.

Thank you for your kind review. Due to overscoping, team members getting sick and well, life, in the end we had to cut down a lot on complexity and playtesting, resulting in a game that runs basically on some default values, sadly. I hope that you as a player hat a nice experience even if the game feels unbalanced/too easy.
