Hey, I can't get the game to play. I load Wizard.exe, but all I get is a black screen with music. No idea what's up since everyone else seems to have played it without issue.
Thanks for trying to load it up anyway! If you'd like any help getting to run I'm happy to try to try on Discord, my user is '-Tommy' in the Goedware server. Without any error messages, I'm not too sure though. Do you know if you played any other games that were made with Godot this jam?
Unfortunately, there are no error messages -- it just loads to black screen, plays music and eventually gets to the end of the song and stops. My GPU goes up to 30%, but I once played a game that put it up to an unprecedented 100% and it still loaded. I had been hoping the issue was that I changed the name of the zip folder, but redownloading it did not help. I have played Godot games before and am pretty sure I have downloaded some too, so I have no idea why this one does not work for me :(
Hmm I really have no clue why it wouldn't be working xD Luckily we're over the 10 ratings mark so we can still be included in any judging tomorrow anyway and thank you for trying and checking so much!
Fun platform venture ๐ฎ๐พ!
GAMEPLAY
This platformer game packs fun and shows a great deal of attention in its creation. Though time constraints led to some cuts I read like the info handling. A bit more information on the acquired abilities and their usage would have been helpful. Currently, I resorted to the game page to understand the controls and just push them after acquiring an ability. The controls are smooth, but the coordination between abilities, jumps, and mouse attacks can be a tad overwhelming, but maybe that is just my age ๐ . I did get stuck sometimes with the dash in the platforms itself.
ART STYLE / VISUALS
Visually, the game is a nice pixel art treat with a coherent style. Cute wizards, and even better-looking enemies create a visual experience that complements the platforming adventure.
AUDIO / SOUND DESIGN
The soundtrack and sound effects are on point, enhancing the game's ambiance and fitting well with the visual style.
THEME
The theme of broken physics is incorporated through the various abilities.
A very enjoyable platformer game that exhibits a lot of promise. Despite minor hiccups, Keep up the good work and continue like this ๐!
Thank you so much for the kind feedback and taking the time to play! It must be crazy going through all of the games and devlogs that have been put together but it's brilliant to have thorough comments like this. Yeah it's as you said we over-scoped more than we should've and weren't able to get everything in that we wanted. Some good UI and descriptions on how the abilities work would have been very welcome additions!
We'll definitely try to get a slightly polished version up after the jam and fix those hiccups and thank you for playing! :D
Yes, it is some hard work but also fun to play and read. Very nice game entries :)
This looks really great, good music also. I could'nt finish it, because I got stuck a couple of times (in the castle and with the average size wizard)
There is the caves entrance at left top of the yellow wizard. You can start from there. Thanks for playing!
The game is awesome. The single downside that I found is that I wasnโt able to figure out where I have to go
Thats understandable we didnt have the time to put indicators for where you should start :/ You can go to the caves to get the dash ability. Its entrance is located at the top of the big yellow wizard in the hub :) Thanks for playing!
Good graphics, I loved the enemies that follow you and return to their places, as well as the multiple floors to navigate. The animations of the wizards were fantastic. Congratulations!
Thanks for playing!
Here rating all games and i found yours without my rate, how is this possible!!! i repeat your game is soo cool and the art is better, i love it. Go and try my game too i want to improve, and if you want to rate it it would be awesome!!
Thanks, we appreciate you playing, and rating all of them is impressive! Haha I think you posted this just after replying to my comment on your jam page so don't worry, way ahead and had fun with it : D
Very fun idea! I am not adept at the whole plan of the portal and then dash out of it trick. But a fun concept.
Thanks. We ran out of time to explain the upgrades. A power cut hours before submission really made the last few hours interesting!
your game surely looks great !
the artworks is indeed sick and the feature is great as well ( i actually loved that 2d RPG artworks)
are you sure you the spritesheet is originally made by yourself? and with only 10 days for making this game ?
great job guys !
Pleased you like the art. Talluff worked very hard on it.
Woohoo thank you for complimenting the art! Yeah, I love the 2D RPG aesthetic and it brings loads of good memories with it. The spritesheets are all made this week but to save time sometimes I'll use previous tilemaps as rough guidelines to help speed up which helps a lot! 80% of my time was on characters though and unfortunately don't know of any way around that :'D
Thanks for playing!
me gusta la estetica tanto como el juego en si no parece de una jam la verdad te ha quedado muy bien, sigue asi
Muchas gracias
Very cool game, left you more in-depth feedback in the main game's page :D
Thanks for the extra feedback. Really useful and appreciated.
Super cool! Love the art, the shader for the enemies is sick. The sound effect on the dash is really satisfying! I really wish there was some indication of what abilities did as you picked them up. I also think having to hold up for the super jump is really un-ergonomic, would rather spacebar jump just had the potential to be held longer once you get it.
I ended up falling off the edge of the world for forever to the left of the castle. I reached the top of the castle (to my knowledge), didn't see anything, and jumped off... did I miss an ending?
Really great entry overall though! Would be curious to see it fleshed out more, I really love the lil wizard
Thanks for the feedback. We love the Wizard too.
Hey thanks for the really good review and feedback, yeah I wish there was an indication of ability pickups too lol! Unfortunately few things we didn't have time though so got cut off in crunch but we'll hopefully update those after jam ends. Also, your idea of just holding space longer is interesting to try, would have to see how the jump feels in practice since my gut tells me it might be hard to control but could be the solution we needed! Definitely agree that the current situation of holding 'W' isn't the best we could do.
You might have been one of the first and few people to actually beat the game, so thank you! There isn't really an ending in there currently, just exploring the areas (mushrooms, caves, waterfalls, ice islands) and then the castle is just sort of meant to be last but we didn't get the blocking bit finished. Castle jump into abyss will be fixed :D
Thanks for loving the wizard too I think it's my new favourite character to draw, and for beating the game!
