I liked the unique idea of the main character having a dual identity. It is fun! The pixel art style is appealing and works well with the limited color palette. The music fits the atmosphere and makes the game more enjoyable.
However, the controls could be improved. I experienced some difficulties with hitting enemies and moving the player smoothly.
Overall, it’s a good entry for a game jam, and I’m excited to see improvements in future updates.
A fun and humorous game! There are some rough edges that I’m sure will be addressed in an update after the voting period. The theme and colors were incorporated..check!
The controls weren’t super smooth, and trying to hit the enemies while moving didn’t always feel seamless—it seemed like the animations weren’t quite syncing perfectly. But I read that the end was a bit rushed, which makes sense because time management in a game jam is always tricky...I know.
Art was nice pixel style and also used the palette very well and the music fitted the ambiance.
Was fun to play—great effort! 😊
This seems like an absurdly obscure way to make a joke game. At first I was going to comment about the grammar and dialogue, or the hitboxes. Then I realized this was a parody of the NES Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde game. As somebody who actually quite appreciates that game, I gotta say you did a remarkable job making a successor to it. It really feels like an indie remake of that game with genderflipped protagonists. Right down to the annoying bees!
Giving a game qualities which will not be considered traditionally good by most players is a very risky move to take, so I respect your approach like crazy. Thematically, my favorite game in the jam so far. It's hard to comment serious critique on a game that is trying to mimic something like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, so I'll go with... I wish this game was longer. I also think a few obstacles should be more easily avoidable. If you really want a challenge, make the game's framerate speed UP when there's more on-screen to mimic its feel.
Thanks for your review! I appreciate that you recognized the source of inspiration 🎩 *hat tip*
This jam really came down to the wire for our team so there's a lot that didn't get in there. I'm working on a version 2.0 to release after the judging is complete; the levels will be completely redesigned and there will be more of them & more enemy types.
Very fun concept and it has been said below here for me it also felt a bit irritating that i had sometimes no choice to get hit because there was no crouch attack but then the theme of the jam came into play.
One other thing that irritated me a bit was that at first i thought i could not walk and use my umbrella at the same time. However it looks like only the attack animation doesn't work then because i did hit the enemies in the end.
good submission with cool art and gameplay
Thanks for your comment. The level design was rushed at the end and I agree you should not be put in a position where you need to take damage because you can't damage an enemy below you. The walking + umbrella is also a problem. Combo animation would fix.
Such a cool take on the theme! And the dialogue really gave me a laugh at some points, great job. The controls could be improved on just a bit - attack and duck/dive felt somewhat unresponsive. Awesome job using the palette, too. I also like how the page color fit seamlessly with the menu color, cool effect. Nicely done!
Thanks. The dive was actually an accident but I left it in because it's fun.
I'm not gonna lie it was a lil confusing at first, I can deal with the bees but sometimes I was on a higher platform and I couldn't hit the guy below me (I was begging and pleading for a crouch attack). Then it clicked when the alter ego came out- I later found out "dying" was part of the gameplay loop to collect coins, and restore sanity. I found this to be really friggin cool! Getting forced to get hit sometimes no matter what made me feel like an L gamer tho. Aye I got a marble for the small little child so its alright, speaking of the dialogue is pretty funny haha. Shrek out of 7 (also cool level transitions when the alter ego comes out)
Thanks for your review. Yeah, like I mentioned above, the level design was rushed at the end and being forced to take damage from an enemy below you isn't fair. If we put out a v2.0 after the Jam the levels will be completely redesigned.
