Quick and easy to finish, Kind of not my thing. These games feel like they are designed to annoy people. However this one was not so bad. The Rooster jump animation is easily my highlight.
Loved it! I managed to beat it pretty quickly, but only because I'd picked up a trick from watching Kiri's attempts (jumping into the left side wall to get to the platform above) and accidentally figured out another trick for the platforms at the top (skipping the 2 platforms directly right of the webbed one). Even then, I had to do it all twice because I fell straight to the bottom after accidentally charge jumping into the little brick blocking the way to the last section... lol!
This was amazing. I didn’t take the time to finish it but it’s clear what has to be done, how it works and the art is great too. Well done.
It was great watching you play!
Thanks for playing!
Thank you for the lovely comment about the art! I think the rooster is one of my favorite creations so far! I'm glad you had fun with the game, thanks for playing!
This game was really difficult, but I really liked it! It definitely took me longer than it should have, but I was greatly impressed by the amount of polish this had. I'm really bad at platformers and I had to take a second and breathe to get over the rage a few times, but finishing it felt really satisfying! I felt like the movement was solid, and I like how you made us use the wall bouncing with the level design. I also liked how it was rare to fall all the way down.
I went and watched your vod, and I have to say that I rather agree about the leaps of faith. At least some indicator of where the next platform is will be something I keep in mind if we ever make another game like this. 1 am Dave thought they were a great idea, though! XD
I’m glad you found the end satisfying, and thank you so much for your kind words about how it feels to control the rooster. It was definitely the thing I put the most time into.
Ultimately I think what the game lacked was the accessibility options I planned to add. Giving the player options to have a higher degree of control over the movement would have made for a better experience, I think.
Thank you so much for playing!
I liked how the movement and jumping felt, but couldn't get past the first screen where you see the roof of the barn, so I'm not sure how much more there is after that :D
I think I had difficulty seeing how the amount of rooster squish related to the power of the jump, I don't know if it was just my eyes playing tricks, or if it wasn't directly linear from squish amount to jump power, but it felt like it was making it harder to gauge any jump that wasn't full power.
The rooster theming is nice but I think I would have liked ifmore had been done with working the theme into the gameplay. It feels like this game could have any assets attached to it and it would fit any theme as well.
Great job with the game!
That screen is the last screen before the end, you were close!
The squish is a linear relation to the jump power, but the jump charges very quickly, so there’s not much wiggle room for mid-to-low power jumps. I wanted to add an option to slow the charge time, and I’ve also been suggested a bar that fills, which I think would be great accessibility options.
I can see where you’re coming from re: the theming, and that’s something I’ll take forward with me.
Thanks for playing!
I also have a love-hate relationship with this game, as others have mentioned. It totally brought out the frustration that only Getting Over It has caused me in the past, so nice job with that! Platformers are not my thing, but I was determined to reach the end... and I'm glad I did! The ending was really satisfying after all that frustration!! As I mentioned on stream, the ability to cancel your jump and toggle visibility of the jump arcs would be SO helpful, as it does get quite difficult towards the end. Thanks for hanging out in chat and discussing your game with us, and thanks for the submission!
It was so much fun to watch you play, and your perseverance is amazing!
I’ll definitely update after the jam with a lot of the accessibility options we talked about.
Thanks for playing!
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this game. It's very neat, I certainly like the concept and how it fits into the theme, and the idea behind a platformer with a fixed jump arc is really cool. I just found this more frustrating than I was really expecting, and it kind of soured my experience with it. Looking at the other comments here, I can clearly see that was largely intentional, and I don't want to hold that against the game. Perhaps some of it was the difficulty curve. The first 3-step area you have to get up that's right against the wall was the first point where I was really getting annoyed with the game, so maybe the issue is the curve at which it gets more difficult? (as in it might have been better if it was a more steady increase in difficulty). The whole "falling back down towards the beginning" was... something. Not my favorite sort of thing, but I understand that's in part a matter of opinion (Especially since Getting Over It is a thing). Overall, I think it's a great game, but just had a harder time liking it than I had hoped.
Hey thanks for your comments!
Overall, yeah, this game is somewhat intended to be frustrating and difficult. However, I still wanted it to be fun, and I seem to have missed that mark with you. It’s OK and very valid to not enjoy a game, so please don’t feel bad at all (if you are) :)
I agree with you that the difficulty curve could be better, and I’ll definitely be taking that with me going forward in future games.
The biggest things I was hoping to add were accessibility options - triggers that change how the game plays, so that people can play how they like. Options I was hoping to include were a slower jump charge, an arc arrow indicating where you will land, a cancel jump button, and a button to turn off falling through the bottom of the screen.
Unfortunately, time always gets the better of us in these things, but I like to think that those choices would have made a better game for you :)
Thanks so much for playing!
Oh god it's like ultimate chicken horse and jump king had a baby. And here I thought my submission was going to be the most frustrating... 5/5 very annoying good job well done :D
Jump King was a very big inspiration for this!
Thank you so much!
I am really bad a precision platformers and have a bad reaction time in games in general, so this game falls in this category of games i do not have the perseverance to finish.
Despite all my shortcomings in these kind of games, it feels really nice to play and i like the charged jump especially. Really nails the Getting Over it vibes as Benjammin1391 mentioned as well.
Nice entry :)
Oh yes, these sorts of games are definitely not for everyone!
Thanks for kind words about the controller, it was something I spent a lot of time on, and I’m really happy that comes across in the feel of it.
Thanks for playing!
I liked it, gives me Getting Over It vibes. I found the jump hard to figure out at first, but I think that is the point?
Thanks!
I was aiming for somewhat hard, but not unfair.
Thanks for playing!
