Gorgeous game, pretty interesting idea 😃

There was a few issues, I am sure you did not have time to fix them, such as the slippery controls, the random ejection of the spirit, the need to jump to re-enter the spirit state for instance.

One that I did not see below, is the controller’s key, I had to switch to an english keyboard layout, which made it a bit difficult to remember which key was which.

Love the idea and the look, and it plays really well. Good job!

Great concept and REALLY excellent polish and art/animation, 40 more levels + a few more mechanics and this is a full game. Love the different feel of the two characters. One might say that the slippery spirit controls are too slippery but one also might say GIT GUD N00B :P (im the n00b, but i did git gud, after a few tries) (Also its a spirit, what do we really expect, you'd be falling over yourself too if the grim reaper was after you! +1 for realism)

Also very impressed at doing this with a team of 4, we (3) improved quite a bit since the last jam we did but coordination on that short of a time scale is TOUGH so big props for that.

Ahhh, this game was so pretty! Wonderfully detailed backgrounds and I like the animation following the character and the walking sound effects. I think the spirit split mechanic is a very cool concept, and I am curious how the team came up with the idea!

At first, I found it a little difficult to tell which areas were forbidden/poison/plane of death, so if you folks come back to it, it might help to consider animating the area so its easier to see.

Very impressive for 72 hours of production! A charming game.

As I started playing this game, I was really liking it. The art style is really nice, reminding me quite a bit of the Pico-8, and the puzzle mechanic was really clever. I was rather disappointed, then, that I ended the game feeling really frustrated.

I think there were a few things that added up my frustration, but they all seemed to center around the character controller. I was wondering at the start of the game whether it was using a pre-made character controller. It's not that there's anything inherently wrong with that, just that it felt kinda out-of-place for this kind of game. The jump arc felt kinda strange, and having the jump height tied strongly to holding the jump button feels like the wrong choice for this kind of puzzle platformer.

Having the physics for the two playable entities seems fine on paper, but was a real issue for me in practice. Having the spirit have much more momentum meant that I was constantly over-jumping when I was the spirit, then under-jumping when I wasn't because I was trying to compensate for a momentum that suddenly stopped existing.

This was exasperated for me by the rounded corners. I'm not 100% certain if it's the platforms or the character that has the rounded corners, but in either case, it was a huge determent to me. I found myself slipping off of platforms way more than I should have because of them. If you're going to round the corners like that, then the rounding should be significantly smaller, in my opinion.

I'm not sure if the direction the spirit goes when ejected is RNG or just based on something non-obvious, but I found it really obnoxious. There were quite a few times where an unlucky ejection angle caused me to instantly die. This was most prevalent in the last level, where it seems like ejecting from that starting platform seemed to instantly kill me like 30% of the time (and trying to jump off that platform not as a spirit killed me much more often).

Speaking of ejecting the spirit, I found it would randomly not work for me. At first, I thought it was some sort of cooldown that the game just wasn't telling me about, and I was getting annoyed at that. Eventually I figured out that there's some sort of bug in the character controller, because it happened whenever the character's walk animation broke. Jumping seemed to fix the issue whenever it happened, but until I eventually figured that out, this was a real annoyance (especially without an easy way to just restart the level).

Lastly, I found that (at least at first), I had a real hard time seeing the insta-death ... vines? flowers? ...  the purple stuff. I found they blended in more than I think they should. I'm not sure if this was because I'm colorblind (in which case it's an accessibility issue), or if it blends in like that for everyone. Either way, some more contrast would have been nice there, but once I learned where they all were, it wasn't an issue on replaying the game.

Overall, I really wanted to love this game. I think this could have been one of my favorite games of the jam. However, these technical issues I had made me not like it as much. I still think it's one of the better games this jam, but I feel like it could have easily been better.

I'll start by saying - platformers are my mortal enemy, this game kicked my butt and made me angry, but I felt like a pro once I (finally) beat it!!

Your graphics are stunning! The color palette is gorgeous and the pixel art itself was serene and really captured the essence of the game. The game included lots of purples/blues though, so a colorblind mode might be a good addition! I also felt that the spirit sprite was too "slippery". I had a really terrible time adjusting to not sliding into walls of death XD

With the spirit walking mechanic, I almost felt like I was controlling 2 characters. Providing a unique ability for your corporeal form, in addition to your spirit form, could lead to lots of interesting puzzles to platform and solve

Thank you for your submission to the HF 2023 Game Jam!

More please! Super fun platformer!

I loved this!! Such a refreshingly different take to the theme, and one idea that I almost went with! I love how you came up with so many design elements that I would've never though of- permeable walls that reappear and disappear when activated by mysterious stones, some strange foliage that kills not only the moral but the spirit as well, and strange soul monsters that only attack when the soul is separate from the body. It all just culminates into a very mystical and mysterious world that I'm dying to explore. However, I realized that some ledges were rounded which made certain levels- especially the last one- frustrating to traverse, cause I kept slipping off the edges into the weeds lol. But this is minor compared to the amount of detail and care put into this game- I especially love how you can stand on your corpse to reach higher platforms LMAO. I would love to see this game expanded and added upon in the future!!

cool chill game. have some places for think

This was a fun and interesting take on the platformer. I don't know what else to say - I fell off the edges of platforms for what appeared to be no reason - requiring a finer tune on controls / sliding than I had access to - but it was fun. I did not play to conclusion for time reasons.

That slippery spirit keeps driving into it dead.
Good jam game

That last level was hard. Great game.

Good work! the running was a little slippery and my PC is absolutely trash so I have 20fps and made it worse, but really cool concept.

This was fantastic!

The artwork is gorgeous, and the mechanic is well thought out. The difficulty curve could use some adjusting, and I accidentally lost more than a few times because of how slippery the spirit control is, which was frustrating.

However, I really enjoyed the puzzles, and in the end, had an amazing time.

Well done!
