The atmosphere of the game is well created, but the physics of character is alit bit hard to adapt. Like this game.
Awesome game, interesting gameplay and it's very easy on the eyes. I had read comments beforehand and prepared myself for the worst regarding the character controller. However, once I started playing, I didn't find them that bad at all. They are just not as responsive as usual, so you need to be patience and there's no problem controlling the character.
Thanks. I always knew it would not be everyone's ideal at first. I knew from the beginning I needed it to be loose and fast so that you could shift through levels that you had looted. I wanted a tention between going slow and careful and yeeting through. I've tweeked it a little now that I've actually had the chance to properly play test. Annoyingly I made it much better in about 20 mins of work. I will share a post jam after the ratings done.
Yes and no. I had hoped to do a bit more with the levels but it was pretty time consuming as it was. Using the kenney assets was a blessing and a curse. Saved a lot of time, but also created problems to solve that I had not really factored in. I was hoping to add hazards more than platforms but alas it was not to be. Always painful cutting out things you know would be good but that's the reality of 48 hours.
Really enjoyed that! I was a a big fan of Limbo, which from memory had similar momentum mechanics with movement (and other similarities to this), so I found that very fun - getting the run up for the jumps perfect ect.
I did get stuck on a part so didn't quite complete, but I thought this came together very well. Great job!
Fun game! The atmosphere was fantastic, and a lot of the item names gave me a good chuckle. The movement was very interesting as well! It was really fun to build up momentum, but it felt slightly upsetting when I would have to restart if I fell from too high. So, I would maybe recommend either giving the player more control over their movements or letting them just fly across the map with no consequences. Overall, very enjoyable game that was fun to play!
Very nice game! I love the animations and the foggy aesthetic. Only things that bugged me where the controls, I felt like it was difficult to make the character come to a stop and move where I want to. Very interesting idea with searching mechanic. However I found it repetitive after a couple of times.
Thanks. I agree with the coming to a stop. Truth is I had to bug fix when I should have been play testing. I spent 20 minutes on the movement today and it was super easy to make it infinitely better. Hindsight is a fickle beast. I had plans for replay ability but they all got cut. 48 hours was brutal especially with this theme, so much scope for everyone to grapple with.
6/10-7/10. Didn't enjoy gameplay and controls. Climbing stairs is hard and feels buggy. Well was hard until i found that you can spam jump button in order to become superman :))(I guess this is bug?) After that movement become a little nicer for me(i like speed xD). Don't really know why here this controls, but after 5 minutes in game they stopped annoy me. Good luck in your projects!
Thanks. I always knew the controls were going to be a bit of a risk. They take time to get used to and they would have benefitted from some adjustment. I did not get to play test it as some game breaking bugs used up much of my time at the end of the jam. I am pleased to see you got to enjoy the speed in the end and that was the whole reason for making it so physics based. I had to accept it was the best I could do in the time we had. 48 hours is a bit of a killer, especially when you try something ambitious. I expect you felt that too. I like the direction you went in with yours but ambition was both our enemies at the end of the day. I did for the first time in about 15 Jams get a working tutorial done so I already feel like I won! It's all good learning
Creative way of using the assets to achieve the visuals. The control of the character is terrible, nothing you dont know already :). Good job for you finishing the game!
Terrible! I find that a bit harsh to be fair. That word means they couldn't be any worse and I don't know that. Oh that hurt. Now are they perfect? Far from it. Is there stuff to improve that I would if I could? Sure. Are they this way for a reason? Yes. Terrible has landed like an insult, it's a big and powerful word. Whilst I appreciate constructive feedback the comments are supposed to create a reciprocal exchange. I am supposed to go and play your game now. Normally I do that no problems. I will be playing yours whilst carrying an insult around my neck. Not ideal.
Sorry if you got it in the wrong way, I never meant in. In fact as I mentioned, I liked the idea of the visuals. If you need help with the character, just ask.
Saying that something does not work as expected is not an insult at all. Terrible is a word, and it means that, bad. The emotions and interpretation, you did put it. Do not blame for that. If you or the person you are talking with are not both native speakers, or even you are but you live in different place, it is normal that you make different use of the words. If instead you have asked "what do you mean by terrible" or "can you give me some examples", you would have get much better output.
Also, I dont know why you say you are supposed to play my game. Neither you are nor I ever asked. I know where it is and the many things it fails.
I get it. I appreciate that language can be a barrier. I hold no grudges and that's why I gave an honest response. I also managed to not hold a grudge when playing your game. But just so you know 'Terrible' does not mean bad, it means the absolute worst end of the meaning for bad. There is no bad worse than terrible. If you use it, know that that is what you are saying - it could not be badder. If you had given some constructive criticism with it it might not have felt like an insult. I respect that that was not your intention, but that was the result. I appreciate the feedback and that is that. No harm done and the controls are bad enough to need attention.
Glad you understand. I completely disagree with you in the "terrible" thing. There are many more words that means much worse than terrible. In my dictionary are: atrocious, horrendous, abominable, disgusting, a piece of sh*t, useless... the list keeps going on.
Now, focusing on being productive. I believe you used some body physics 3d / 2d. Although that seems the natural way to go, in most of the cases it is not, specially in platform games where you want to control dash and so on. For something simple like the one you were doing I think something like this could work nicely:
https://kidscancode.org/godot_recipes/3.x/2d/platform_character/index.html
(this guy also have really nice videos about controllers for other things in the game, you should have a look in his youtube channel).
I feel you are more artist than programmer, but you manage to finish the game, so that is a great achievement. Keep working hard and you will succeed.
This game is unsettling in a way I once thought reserved for early 90s CGI music videos. The game loop is half 'Leave No Stone Unturned Simulator' and half 'close your eyes and pretend you cant hear the noises'. It controls like the unholy lovechild of Sonic The Hedgehog and Bennet Foddy's Getting Over It, still slick from the womb. I hate that this was ever installed on my computer. Five stars.
Really fun game! As has been mentioned I love the inspiration from Limbo. The volumetric light effect was also very cool. Only change I would like is for the player to move a little slower, it was hard to control with all the sliding. Otherwise fun, exciting game!
I would love to see this extended into a story game like Limbo.
I really like your color selection and style here! Looks like Inside and Limbo mixed together.
