Did you work in a team?
One. I enjoyed myself quite a bit
Was the resolution a challenge?
The resolution lends itself well to the genre - it gives a feeling of claustrophobia
What did you learn?
I've never made a top down game before and i think this came out alright - i enjoyed building an atmosphere and always try to one-up myself when doing that.

Excellent atmosphere and storytelling! I really enjoyed the game, and managed to get to the end too. Great audio cues as well. My only critique would be as others said, to perhaps change the control keys from shift, it felt a little unnatural to me to play.
Very great game!!! I remember seeing the intro in the Discord channel! =D
The game reminded me a lot Dark Souls, but with a catch of Survival Horror games.
The gameplay is very nice and very imersive. The controls are also very responsive.
Liked a lot the graphics. As said before, the style reminds a lot Souls-like games, and all of the elements are matching with the atmosphere.
The musics are really nice too, they match very well with the thematic of the game. The music helped a lot the game to be immersive.
I didn't play the entire game, but it seems to have a lot of things to explore and unlock. The battle mechanics are good, the attack is very responsive when the button is pressed.
A suggestion for the battle would be to change the attack button from Shift to another button. I was smashing it sometime and it activated the "Sticky Keys" feature of Windows, hahaha (I'll take a look on how to deactivate that!).
A felt the enemy a little unfair when appearing. Rarely I could notice it and escape from its attack.
Another suggestion that I think would help with the game is to level the menu music with the "pressed start" SFX. This SFX is a little louder than the music.
But it's a really amazing game. I'm not used to play horror games, but I really liked it because of the Souls-like catch. I think that this game has a very good potential. I would look forward to it with further updates!
Congratulations for the entry!!!
Thanks for your thoughts! Sorry for setting off your sticky keys, to be honest i had no idea sticky keys was still on by default for some T_T. I'm glad you enjoyed what you played! I think the game gives an impression that's its a lot bigger than it actually is, haha - ii'm sure you were probably very close to being complete! Thanks for playing!
A bit hard to not get lost, but great atmosphere (and Sound!! excellent sound) I made an horror game too and a feel the 64x64 works pretty well with the theme. Nice ending too.
thanks! glad you were able to get through it!
Really nice! Particularly like the atmosphere, the non-text story and the graphics. The death screen was very nostalgic! I also got a little lost and a bit confused about where I was going but other than that great stuff!
Thanks for playing! I know the map can be a little disorienting, hopefully you got to see the ending!
Let's try to give some feedback here...
Sometimes I felt very lost. I think there could be done someting for better leading the player. I see there are all ready some things there, like the lights and the way. But the way is very hard to see for me, if it is not lighten. Also the environment is very open, something that is hard to orientating in an top down perspective. What helps are the special location you created.
But, there are is so much in this game that works really well for me. First of all the story telling. I like the intro scene, but I like the environment telling even more. Thats really nice. The first enemy scared me a lot, really funny. The sounds gives the game a great atmosphere. The hit feedback is great!
All in all a great one!
Thanks for the feedback! I know a number of people struggled with the direction of this one and tbh it's probably something i could have worked on a bit more. I tried to get the environment to do the heavy lifting - blood trails, beaten paths, etc, all lead you to the things you're looking for.
Glad you liked some of it though! cheers!
This is a great example of how horror works in games. No jump scares or flashing lights, just mood and a looming sense of danger.
I'm impressed with the tiny text you used! For my game I had trouble going smaller than 3 x 5 for my letters, but it looks like you got away with 3 x 4. The "T" looks a little odd but otherwise it's great.
Thanks! I really hate jump scares or loud "horror" noise stings and generally always try to avoid them.
I really liked the atmosphere of this. The lighting effects were cool and the animations were really good, combat felt tight and responsive too. Also nice to see another GameMaker game in the jam :D
I loved the atmosphere and music of the game!
A very solid jam game with superb atmosphere, enjoyable to play and that intro scene was top notch as well. Seemed like a surprisingly big area too, took me while to explore it all and find the necessery items. How many hits can you take? I felt like I was doing rather poorly in combat at times, but somehow managed to avoid dying.
I often tend to make my games too hard - i don't have many people to test so this time around i went with a slightly more generous health pool. The player can take around 8 hits before getting a game over, the heavy breathing starts around 4-5 hp remaining and the very heavy breathing with 1-2 hits remaining.
Hope you enjoyed the game! thanks for playing
Loved the graphics on this. The way the blood trails lead you to items. The rain. Super atmospheric and quite hard too. Congratulations!
Thanks!
Woow, super scary, especially the sfx. I found : key, shovel, hot dog, white jem, another key. I will give it another try later to finish it. Not seeing my hp was super stressful actually. Very good job.
(pressing maj to attack caused me some problems because of the sticky keys popup :/)
Thanks! hopefully you get the chance to see the ending, you're very close!
Excellent vibe, I really like this one. Congrats! :D
Hello! I played your game on stream! If you want to see your game played with live feedback, you can find the VOD and watch from this sheet: http://bit.ly/bean-stream
thanks or the feedback!
great use of space, color, and audio!
Great game, love how the environment pulls you in. The use of a limited color pallet really brought out that, feeling of being lost in the woods at night.
Hey, this is great! Feels like a real adventure. I love the intro, it conveys the story so simply. I do wish you did not have to revisit it each time you died.
Thanks! I may implement a way to skip it, just have to think about the best way to go about it
This game does not seem to have the Windows exe checkbox selected when you uploaded it. If you are using the itch.io desktop application, having that box checked is important if you want people to allow the app to install it automatically. Just letting you know...
thanks for the heads-up! should be amended now
Yes, it works now! :) Thanks for being there. I had actually already downloaded it seperately, but I appreciate this, and I'm sure others will as well.
Awesome work!
