Did you work in a team?
lapspider45: Yes. For the beginning of the jam I worked on music and Mad Monkey Games did the art and code. However, Mad Monkey Games had to retire mid-jam, and so I coded everything again from scratch, using the assets and music we had made so far.
But I don't regret teaming up, I would have been less motivated and had fewer good ideas had I done this jam alone. Teamwork rules!
Was the resolution a challenge?
Mad Monkey Games: Yes, the resolution was a challenge!
lapspider45: Using a tiny character sprite and a 3x3 tile size were both good decisions. We went with a pretty clean look, because the game is meant to be fast-paced.
For the second boss, you could not see the rockets coming at you. The solution was to add an indicator to warn when a rocket is offscreen, and a whooshing engine sound to the rockets.
lapspider45: The nice animations on the second boss went to waste too, you need to be really close to see them.
What did you learn?
lapspider45: I joined the jam wanting to compose music for a real (as opposed to hypothetical) game. This was my first jam, disregarding my previous failures. I did spend more than a week on the music. But as I had to step in and do the code, I also got to program my first actually-a-game game! Because I eventually want to spend 3 years creating my dream game (conceptual phase since January), I think this experience has helped me tremendously and I see it as an important step towards actually starting work on THAT GAME.

Really hard! I liked it, nice graphics, nice audio.
This was so hard lmao I loved it. Crashed on like my 6th go of the Dr Kidd fight and I couldn't complete it :( Big ups I was not expecting to play for so long lmao, very immersive
Thanks for playing! I don't know if this is the same problem you are describing, but there is a bug where you get stuck inside the wall when Dr. Kidd teleports, if that happens press ESC and hit RETRY.
It looks really charming and the music is excellent! The controls were a bit too unforgiving for me. I think I've have liked to have more subtle movement options. Could just be me not being great at it though. ;)
Overall I think you guys did a great job!
nice game, pretty good music.
uff... that was exciting! I loved the atmosphere thanks to the music and the camera control. It was hard to control the character as it became pretty easy to just shoot off into a wall of spikes but once I got used to it it became intuitive.
Funny thing about the camera, I had to set it perfectly centered on the player, after encountering a bug with the rocket warning indicators. Glad you liked it!
Damn, that is an interesting control scheme. I actually enjoyed the look and feel of the game. The only thing I think would be a slight improvement is if holding left and right could trigger continual movement. This game is extreme flappy bird.
Super hard, the final boss seems a bit too hard , my fingers hurt now haha The soundtrack is epic ! My best rate was A- on the first level
Love the look and music. Really punchy gameplay. Only suggestion would be to add checkpoints, maybe before the bosses.
I feel like the only true way to play this is to only hit the movement keys on the drum beats because oh boy it slaps. Nice job both!
this game is hilarious…. the controls are a hoot and the music is A+. Nice work
Fun game. :) I liked the momentum based movement.
