Did you work in a team?
I created this tiny game alone. It was pretty fun, my kids were my audience.
Was the resolution a challenge?
I don't think the resolution was that big of a challenge for the game I created.
What did you learn?
This was my first game jam. I entered because I've been meaning to try a game jam for a while and I like the 64x64 restriction this jam has.

Fun game! I included it in my LowRezJam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Nice job! Really great especially for your first gamejam. The movement is fluid and I love the little music transition when you collect the heart. My final time was quite slow, 1:22!
I found it a little tough due to how fast the player moves and how obstacles are often hidden offscreen, meaning it's easy to run into a fireball without having enough time to react to it if you're running very fast. One possible solution to this would be to shift the camera forwards based on the player's current velocity, so if you're moving quickly towards the right, the camera biases to the right so you can see more of what's coming.
I like the ideas here, the speed of the platforming reminds me a little of super meat boy. There's also some really nice player-friendly design here, like the arrow showing where you are off-screen when you go too high.
Great work!
Thanks for checking out my game and the kind words! Having the camera show more ahead of the player is a great idea, wish I thought of that in the first place. Now that voting is over I may go ahead and implement that as a fun exercise (and also a few more levels).
Very fun fast paced (if you want it to be) game! Loved the music. Great work, especially for your first jam!
Thanks for playing!
Sweet platformer!
I liked that the game is easily grasped by the player, and then the speedrun begins. I challenged myself to finish most of the levels without a single death, and as fast as possible, it was fun! Visuals and the audio, in general, are good. Visuals teach the player what is good and what is bad gracefully, and the audio adds to it. The resolution restrictions seem to be not a problem for you too, you have worked on it professionally as I can see!
Well-done!
I'm glad you liked it and thank you for playing!
So cute! Very well designed. The sound effects were really good too, which is something I find hard to do in pico.
I think I found a soft lock though. On level 5 (I think?) I jumped over the entrance to the finish and ran past that section with all the fire burners and ended up falling off the screen with no way to restart the level or get back.
Super cute, super fun! Good submission
Thanks for the kind words. The sounds were pretty challenging due to pico8. It was actually my 1st time using the music editor.
On level 5 you should get reset if you go past the row of fire and fall in the pit, there's actually traps down there! I think I could've handled that part better though because you can probably stay alive forever if you keep jumping.
A straightforward platformer with a speedrun timer, we may have had a similar idea.
I thought the inclusion of the arrow showing where you are off the screen and the telegraphing of spikes and fire were a nice touch. In the fourth level, the way the camera is situated you weren't able to see the spiked platform off to the right so it was not possible to anticipate when it was activated. Near the end of the third level, not sure if intentional but because of the one way platform you can jump back to the top again. These were just little things, the game never keeps you stuck for too long, good effort on your first game jam!
I know what you mean about that one platform, I certainly could have done a little better with that level. On level 3 however the jump-through platform near the end was intentional and honestly it got me so many times during testing. Thanks for playing!
The platforming is really tight, and I like how the hazards are all clearly readable. The levels are quick and not too challenging, but seem to have some speedrun potential with jump spacing and momentum. The arrow that appears when the character goes above the screen is a nice touch.
Thanks! I made the game more or less with speed running in mind. I also tried to make sure that the traps were telegraphed for the most part.
Challenging and fun. I really liked the music theme too.
Thank you.
tough stuff! Like the music and thought the character was cute
Thank you!
Excellently scoped game for this jam. Some nice QOL features (the little indicator showing your x position when you're above the screen for example). I liked how the traps/hazards weren't unfair with their collisions (I see this a lot in jam games). I even found a secret (I think)! First attempt got 2 min 16 seconds ! Also *love love love* the audio motif thing you've got going on. There was just one point that I thought was a little unfair (a jump you have to make to a platform offscreen which has a spike trap on it. theres no way to time this correctly without luck AFAIK? unless i internalized the timing, or if it's synced to the music or something-- wait is it??)
Thanks for the feedback. I know the exact platform you're talking about and I agree that it is a little unfair, although if you tip-toe close enough you can barely see it. Also, since you mentioned it it would've been pretty clever to make the traps sync to the music. Lastly, I'll confirm that there is indeed a secret and I think if you mentioned it then you probably found it! Thanks so much for playing.
Nice but couldn't get that "x" button as jump at first because I have a habit of working with "Space" instead. But other than that, the gameplay and everything are nice.
Yeah, it's not my favorite thing about working with pico-8. Thanks for playing!
Really good game design, and I liked the small details such as the arrows pointing when exiting the screen! The acceleration was a bit strange in such a precise game.
Thank you for checking out my game.
The concept is great feels a tiny bit to fast
Thanks for the feedback!
