Did you work in a team?
I got the music and sound effects from opengameart. But other than that, it was a solo project.
Was the resolution a challenge?
The game I submitted to last year's LOWREZJAM had some visual bugs, such as bleeding pixels and the camera not updating correctly. I'm happy that I've managed to solve those issues during this year's game jam, thanks to Caliber Mengsk's example of the render texture.
Even though this game has some bugs as well, I'm happy with the result. :)
What did you learn?
I have to complete the game in my head before I start building it. The idea I had for this year's LOWREZJAM did not have a satisfying ending to it, but I decided to start building it anyway. I realized pretty early on that I would be unable to finish the game the way I originally intended, so I decided to double down on the only thing I managed to add to that point: fishing.
Originally I wanted to make use of the "False reality" with the "gone wrong" theme. The game was supposed to give the player the idea that it was just about fishing (the reality). But then the world would fade away slowly, seemingly due to graphical glitches. After the world had faded, the player would find themselves on a spaceship, where alien scientists were studying the player. By solving puzzles, the player would progress through the spaceship.
That's how far I got with the original idea. I was unable to come up with an ending that I felt was fitting. And so the fishing game with a twist, became a fishing game without a twist! :P

Relaxing little game! I included it in my LowRezJam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)
Loved the little island, the water, the fisherman and the fish. Unfortunately I got bored pretty quickly which is a shame. Have you ever seen Stardew Valley's fishing mechanism? Something akin to that would spice things up a bit - either the 'progress bar' could reduce if you weren't mashing F quick enough, or you have to keep the fish in a small area of 'progress bar' which would get bigger as you level up. You could even come up with a key combination - holding one down at times to represent pulling the rod and mashing another to represent reeling in.
With regard to an 'ending' you could easily limit the game to a day - I believe anglers often buy 'day permits' for fishing here in the UK. It'd just be a case of scoring per fish and 'beat your best high score'.
Still an enjoyable little diversion though - well done.
:P simple but fun! I liked the smooth gameplay and the cute graphics!
Great job :D
Super fun! Congrats
I'm happy to hear you've had enjoyed it, thank you very much for playing! :D
At first I thought it was a little too simplistic, but it really grew on me throughout!
I only got to a little over level 20 though,,.,. you people are insane
The one thing I feel would change it from good to great, is a fish album! This may be my personal bias as I love collecting stuff, but a little album full of unique fish to catch would've had me replaying this over and over again
I'm happy to hear that the game grew on you and that you've enjoyed it, thank you very much for playing it :D
I like collecting stuff in games as well, so an album of fish to catch is a great idea! Do you think that would still fit in the game as it is currently, where you only have a limited amount of time to catch fish? Or do you think it would be better if there were no such limit?
Hmm, thats a very good question! One that can probably only be remedied with playtesting. I think the daily time limit is good, but if you add an album it might lean towards a fishing rogue-like haha :)
Nice game, relaxing. I got 129 score.
Also, VLDL fan? :P
Thank you very much for playing, I'm glad you've enjoyed it! :D That's a nice score! And yes, I'm glad someone picked up on it haha. As soon as I decided to add fishing in the game, I knew there had to be a reference to Baelin. :P
This is a really clever idea. I was hoping there was something else on the island to do. Perhaps in a future version!
Thank you very much for playing, I'm happy you've enjoyed it! :D What kind of stuff would you like to see on the island? Something like a shop to buy fishing rods or bait, or just some decorations (trees, rocks, buildings) in general? I agree that it's missing something!
Adding a shop would take things to a whole new level. I'm thinking just some buildings, a town, a dock, trees. Another idea, have a river where you can catch some other type of fish. Lots of possibilities, but I wouldn't want to see it become too complicated anyway, unless you were going to expand it into a longer game with bigger challenges.
The fact that you didn't set out to make this a fishing game makes it 10x better. From false reality on an alien spaceship to God-like fishing game. I wouldn't have it any other way.

That's high praise, thank you very much! I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed it! :D
Fun and cute little game.
Thank you very much for playing. I'm happy to hear you had fun! :D
I really like your game and had a good time playing it :) The pixel art is very cute and especially the clouds are lovely and not to forget the transition from day to night! I have read about your original idea and it sounds super cool, you should definitely keep it in mind :) Overall you did very well, thank you so much for sharing your game :)
Thank you very much for playing, I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed it! :D I have to admit I was surprised with how the clouds turned out, and I was actually quite proud of them haha! :P
As fishing mini game lover, I've enjoyed the five minutes I spent on this game :D Liked the simplistic atmosphere. The gameplay could've been just a little more complex, it was very simple even for a minimalistic game. I'd be happy to play if you expand on this concept and make the game that you've orignally had in yoru mind
Thank you very much for playing, glad to hear you've enjoyed it! :D Do you think the fishing in itself should be more complex, or do you think adding stuff around fishing (like different fishing rods, bait for different fish) would be enough?
