Did you work in a team?
3 members, one of whom did design, one of whom did design, music, and graphics, and one of whom did design, music, graphics, and programming. Our names are listed on the page. It was indeed a fun experience.
Was the resolution a challenge?
We're used to working in a resolution around 4 times as wide and 3.5 times as tall as this, so we definitely had a challenge with conveying our graphics and things, as well as with designing in such a small resolution. It's better to leave certain details to the player's imagination, as we learned.
What did you learn?
None of us have designed a top-down shooter before, and our main designer had never used GameMaker Studio 2 before, only GMS1.4 and prior, so we definitely learned a lot about game design. I think it was a great learning experience, and we look forward to working together again.

Really interesting aesthetic, and had a very professional vibe about.
I think the black/red worked quite well for this, though it sometimes did make enemies hard to see.
I liked the variety the different mini games provided, and combat was generally pretty satisfying, though since it used the mouse it felt like I should have been able to fire in any direction, and the enemies that could fire through walls, and sometimes having the laser enemy spawn right on top of me felt a bit unfair.
The UI covering the bottom/top of some maps was kind of unfortunate, the camera should have been allowed to move up and down a bit.
I also had an issue on the first map I played where some of the enemies went off screen I think and I couldn't progress. An exit/restart would have been nice.
I'm glad you liked it! You can press F2 to restart the room.
Congratulations on making this game ! I've played your game during a live that you can watch here :
The live is timestamped so you can go directly to your game.I hope the feedback and live reactions will be useful. Keep it up !
I love the various objectives, great job!
I played this game on stream, the vod is up at http://bit.ly/bean-stream
Very cool game! It's fun the way the objective keeps changing, and there's just the right amount of juice to make the combat satisfying. The sound effects are well used and the music is great. The presentation is slick overall. Graphics are very readable despite the limited colour palette. I like the way it emulates retro games by having regions of the screen limited to certain colours e.g. everything on the same row as the timer turns green.
One minor complaint is the transition between rooms doesn't adhere to the 64x64 restriction.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
The transition between rooms does adhere to the 64x64 restriction, and in fact the entire game is rendered at 64x64 regardless of window resolution, and scaled up to match the window.
Okay, perhaps I was mistaken about the transition. The expanding circle effect seemed too round, but maybe that's just because it moves so fast.
Very fun! I love how the different phases keep everything fresh. The visual style is cool, there's lots of visual touches and flares, but I kind of wish you mixed the colors up a bit more, cuz the black and red is everywhere. Maybe I missed it, but some type of indicator pointing to the exit would be convenient. Overall a great game! Good job!
Wonderful game! Great pace, juice, graphics and music. The variety of weapons also pleased me. But the only thing that baffled me was the main menu. I didn't know which button to press to start the game in the end it turned out that you need to press ENTER. It may be worth adding an inscription on the main screen "PRESS ENTER". Otherwise, I really liked the game.
Pure catharsis :D I love everything about it, this was my latest and best score \o/
I beat the boss twice, I swear one time I was just stuck in a really long room full of mobs with the yellow coming towards me from the left, I started all the way to the right against a pyramid on its side, and there was nothing I could do? ,':/
didn't mind though cos its so fast paced I just started again :)
Amazing game! I liked the graphics and the audio! However, I couldn't complete some levels because I didn't know what to do. I think describing the goal when pressing the pause key would be great.
Very cool game! Really like the atmosphere and sounds, also that you put some upgrades into it. I was a bit confused about what to do in the Boxes level and died to the wall of flames, since I ran like in the past levels with flames.
The graphics are quite readable even though they use only one color, and the variety in objectives lends to a lot of variety while playing. I really enjoyed the music, as well as the document describing all the enemies!
