Did you work in a team?
There were two people (me and my friend Bsharp).
Bsharp did the song, and I did the sound effects, programming and art.

Was the resolution a challenge?
I actually really enjoyed using the low resolution, the only thing that was really hard with it was trying to write words.

What did you learn?
I did a *lot* of shader work during this jam (probably too much), and it was also my first time making a rythym game. I think I did pretty well, but due to some life time constraints I couldn't quite get in everything.

This looked and sounded great. The background, shadow, and synced music were all very cool.

It was pretty hard though.

A bit more of a build up maybe would have been nice? And the perspective did make it a little hard to tell would you would hit, and maybe the hitboxes could have been a bit more forgiving.

great job syncing every attack to the music, that's not easy to do. it's also very polished.

Really nice game. I enjoyed the challenge a lot. Unfortunately, the game froze for me two times at the exact same time - the phase where a lot of rays periodically spawn at once (leaving only a limited polygon to stay in) while having to evade balls coming from a single direction at the same time. It kinda felt like I finished the phase, but rather than continuing, the screen freezes and the music ramps up.

Oh no! I must have missed that bug. Thanks for telling me, I’ll have a look at it after the rating period.

Glad you enjoyed the game!

really cool rythm game :) It was quite tough and fun but sadly i got rewarded with the game freezing the the stage with the crossing beams and 3 balls in a sequence in the web build. But potential pesky little bugs should not smaller the acomplishment, really good looking and nice music ;D

Nice fun little rhythm game.  I could definitely tell you spent time on getting the graphics (esp. the shaders) right, so well done there! I agree with what others were have said about maybe letting you take a few hits, rather than dying on the first hit... maybe adding some usable items that you could pick up (like a shield or something).

Also, kudos for submitting "10 minutes, 37 seconds before the deadline". lol

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the shaders, it was my first time really using them and I sort of went all in on it, but I agree that difficulty needs some work. Something like a shield or powerup seems good for sure, perhaps spawning more freqeuently once you've died a couple times.
Thanks for playing :)

Like what everyone is saying, you did a really good job with the shading, and the little details like how the lighting on our leaf fella's face changes, the lasers leaving an aftertrail, and the trail you leave behind after dashing are all really nice touches! I also really like the music as well, it really captured the feeling that you're about to get burnt to a crisp by a gas giant! As for the game's difficulty though, I think it would be better if there were a number of times you can get hit before dying (maybe 3 times with/without regeneration). I'm glad there are checkpoints though, and I was pretty relieved the first time I saw one

Overall you guys did pretty well in terms of art, music and controls, but I think I spent more time staring at the game over screen than I did the actual game lol

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely think that the difficulty needs some work, I was originally planning to allow some extra hits or something similar, but I ran out of time to implement it without cutting down the actual game level size. I'll definitely do some fixes on the difficulty. Also, I might just make the respawning screen skip quicker, even in testing I sometimes felt like I was dying too often for the speed it's at.
Thank again for the feedback :)

this was sick. your shader work paid off, the game is super cool to look at and feels great to play. song was a bop too

Very cool game! Very nice visuals and the music and how it would slow down and speed up with death was very cool. Wasn't good enough to get very far, maybe a slightly faster cool down on the dash could be nice?

Very nice job to both of you!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The current dash timer is the same length as a bar (1.6 seconds), because I wanted to match it to the song's tempo, but with more testing I agree it should probably be a little faster. I think that I'll change it after the jam.

This game is incredible. love it in every way! it reminds me of JSAB

Developer(+1)

Thanks! That was my main sort of inspiration for the gameplay, so I'm glad someone thought it was similar

Yeah! it took me forever to beat!

Very cool shading effect with the flames/lazers.  I really liked the music, wish I was good enough to hear more of it!
