How does your game fit the Magical Girl Genre?
The protagonist, Ana Haley, is a Magical Girl with comet powers given by a magical green cat.

Which theme(s) do you pick?
Kitten of Great Fortune, Banditry Technology

How does your game fit those theme(s)?
The Kitten has given the girl powers, and the villains want to steal Earth's technology. It's all in the cutscenes that unfortunately I couldn't get into the game in time.

Were the assets for your game made during the jam? Elaborate as you see fit.
All assets, with the exception of the music, were made by myself during the Jam.

The game mechanic of turning into a comet is very interesting. I did encounter a couple of problems:

I died and had to restart the entire level, probably needs a checkpoint at the boss. Restarting caused the music to go silent. Only sound effects were left. Then at some point she didn't turn back out of comet form and I was just stuck.

Good job overall though.

thank for the feedback! :)

I liked the graphics in the game a lot more than I thought I would- to be honest, the lone screenshot isn't all that appealing. It's a pretty simple style, but it works well enough, the effects are snappy and the UI is sharp.

It took me a while to figure out the gameplay. It was probably cut for time, but I really wish there was a tutorial of some sort. I liked the idea, but I found it really hard to use the comet powers, and even when I pulled off a successful attack, it often wasn't as effective as I was hoping. I found it very difficult to plan attacks because of the obstacles and fixed timing, and once there were a lot of enemies on screen it was easy to get mobbed and interrupted. It also wasn't that clear how the charging up worked, and sometimes I would attack immediately and I don't know why.

I really wish some of the narrative made it into the game itself, even if it was just a static screen or two, but I understand why that was probably cut.

All the assets look fantastic. The animations are super smooth. The designs are really nice. It feels overall very cohesive. We think that is the strongest point of this game.

We were a bit lost at first on what to do exactly. The concept of the powers is very interesting but may need to be tweaked. It was far too challenging for us and we never made it beyond the first boss.

Wow very unique game mechanic. The pixel art looks fantastic. Controls feel solid. Very smooth. Challenging and fun. Very highly rated

Thanx a lot, I'm glad you liked it! :)

It is great to see a fellow Construct 3 developer making such a good game! :D

I really enjoyed the look of this game, comes across very clean and easy to distinguish enemies and obstacles. And the sprite designs are cute! I really like the main character's design.

The game mechanic is pretty good! I like that it teleports you across the screen and can get the player out of a pinch when surrounded by enemies.

It would be great to make it so that the player can choose how many times they can do the comet strikes instead of making them wait for the bar to finish. Also, it would be cool to see a player reward for doing certain patterns. (Like maybe an enemy will be holding a "full refill" energy ball/ item that will automatically refill your energy if you defeat them on the last hit when hitting other enemies.)

Or even have a boss that has a number on their shirt, and will only take damage on certain comet strikes. (Like if he is wearing a number "3" shirt, you have to hit 2 enemies first and then hit him on the third strike to damage him.) Just some ideas I had while playing the game. :D

Another bit of feedback I would personally like in the game would be adding checkpoints, or giving an option to Restart/ Continue a section. But maybe it would be better for a bigger game with more sections, since these levels are a bit smaller.

It would be great to go back and update aspects of this game, there is quite a bit of potential with this mechanic! Actually, playing some of your other games (Fists of Magic, Delivery Quest and Agnolita), you come up with some really good mechanics in such a short amount of time!

I hope you do well in this game jam and that this game get played quite a bit! Good luck!

Nice game... have to agree with a lot of the comments below

Not so great:

1) having to wait for that bar to go down before your power activates sucks

2) performing a successful 4 hit, should not punish you with having to wait... I think you should be instead given a full bar so that you don't loose any flow, you should only be punished if you get hit or miss or hit a wall.

3) that first boss is HARD .... second boss is a piece of cake.

4) you might want to lock the player from continuing until they kill the baddies, otherwise you can skip most of level 1 with out even fighting ... which given how hard that 1st boss was and no save point, was actually nice.

5) There is a lack of story

Great stuff:

1) the mechanic is fun, cool stuff, just wish it was less broken.

2) For some reason I really like Haley's design ... overall the art was great =] I even made you some fan art (with some AI help)

Good submission overall ! Keep on going !

Wow, thanx a lot for thr feedback and the art!
I didn't have enough time to refine the mechanic during the game jam, so it got a little stuck, but I plan to work on it as soon as I have some time.

Thanks for the feedbacks and suggestions! :)

The visual and audio is nice. But I am stuck at first bossfight.

I think it will be easier, if hold right button to enter attack mode, and release right button to trigger attack.

Nice to see another game from you in MGGJ! The artwork in this game is really nice. The environments and enemies all look great, and the characters are cute and well animated!

I'll have to echo another player below who mentioned the main mechanic. I do think it's really cool and fun overall, but I wish there was a way to activate it faster. Having a full power bar often felt like a burden, not a bonus. I'd click on something, then click 3 more times randomly to set off the attack.

One other thing that would be nice is a checkpoint at the boss rooms! I did manage to win in the end, but struggled on the first boss in particular.

It's a very polished game that could be even better with some small tweaks to the attack power! I'd love to see it with all the cutscenes that didn't make it in for the jam version. Great work!

I almost didn't post the game because I couldn't refine the mechanics better as I'd like to, but in the end I ended up posting it anyway, hahaha. Thanks a lot for the feedback. :)

A lot of good things going on here, from solid visuals to an innovative core mechanic!

This one sparked a lot of conversation for us, mainly due to the main mechanic. The comet dash is visually satisfying and can feel great to use, but it suffers a bit from slightly difficult useability.

Here's some suggestions and things to consider:

We think the game feel would improve a lot if the player could activate the comet early for example by right clicking again. Another approach could be to only use the left mouse button - Hold down to enter slow mo and start marking, release the button to go. If you move the mouse through an enemy they get marked and the final position of the mouse is your end location of the dash.

We really like the core concept of the mechanic, but with a bit of polish on the controls for it we think it could really shine!

Great character art and also really legit looking UI, one of our favorite games for the jam so far! Very good job!

Thank you very much, I unfortunately didn't have time to develop and refine the mechanics, but I decided to jam the game anyway. Thanks for the suggestions and feedback! :)
