Oh, the second boss was just a teaser for a future update I'm working on.

I had plans to make 5 bosses but this grapple/ swingshot mechanic was a bit more difficult to code than we originally thought. ^_^"

And I am working on adding some more attacks for each boss, even the first boss.

Hopefully with all the updates and improvements I have in mind, it will make the game a little more fun! :D

Thanks for playing and providing feedback!

I am a big fan of the Megaman series, so this game is definitely up my alley!

The art reminds of Adventure Quest, I feel it gives this game quite a bit of charm! (My personal favorites are the rock-throwing armored boss and the electric guitar boss! Looking forward to seeing the gallery giving more details about all the bosses.)

As for the gameplay, the amount/ variety of unique attacks that each boss has is impressive! On top of that, each boss has an EX skill at 50% health, these were fun to figure out how to avoid + overcome!

The rogue-like elements are generous and added an additional level of depth to the game.

Adding music and adjusting the sound effect volumes would improve this game!

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised on how much I was enjoying this game.

Looking forward to see a more polished version with additional content in the future!

Keep it up! :D

Really diggin' this game!

Neat to see a tile-based avoidance game with some puzzle-esque elements!

Took a minute to figure it out (was thinking once you complete a pattern, you could "activate" it at any of the points but activating it from the first one to "close" the loop/ pattern makes sense!) but once you figure it out, positioning yourself was fun since each phase of the fight had different bullet patterns to avoid.

Also, I am really liking the art, especially the second boss' distorted unmoving plaid effect + shape-shifting forms.

Unfortunately, the game crashed on my browser once I defeated the 2nd Peon (Serke I think it was?) so I'll stop my playing here, but adding it to my backlog of games to return to!

Congrats on making a complete game experience! :D

Thanks for playing and providing feedback!

Yeah, there was more planned but I am not a fast coder/ artist lol

I plan on releasing some more content post-jam, so hopefully it will be a more fulfilling experience! ;D

Thanks for playing and providing some feedback!

I agree with you, I would prefer to nudge players to swinging into the boss as a tactic. I'll see what else I can do to make the mechanic more interesting!

Hm... What if smacking the boss' face with a  yo-yo was nerfed a bit more? (Less damage + hitting the boss' heart doesn't stun/ slow them down)

Also, I had plans to add some more spinning-based attacks + specials, so definitely something I would like to release in a post-jam update! :D

An interesting mechanic to make a game around, it's neat to see the player's gun barrel used as a leverage point to spin/ move around the screen to reach higher sections.

The controls get a bit getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, you can get into a bit of a flow!

It's cool that the bosses have more than 1 phase. (The ceiling turret boss caught me off guard and totally annihilated me lol)

And cool to see the 3 different boss types!

Great work on this! :D

The game is still incomplete, unfortunately I didn't get around to adding player health/ defeat conditions. In the updated version, you may need to focus more on dodging! :P

Was trying to figure out a bunch of issues with the core game mechanic, which took up way more time than I wanted it to lol (Grapple/ velocity math was more complicated than I originally anticipated)

Interesting, I'll have to see why the sound effects/ music doesn't work in Firefox.

Glad you liked the music! The musician is very talented and always does a great job! :D

And glad you like the art! That is my favorite part of game development (Now I just need to develop that love for coding lol)

Hm... I could increase the speed of the character, increase the gravity of him a bit more and maybe tweak some of the grappling logic. I kind of skipped testing player balance due to time but I'll go back and make some changes.

Player health will be pretty easy to add in. ;P

Ah, glad you caught on to the spinning combo mechanic! (I wanted to have a tutorial to teach the player, but I'll have to add it in a future update.)

Thanks for playing and giving feedback! (This has been helpful and I've made a few notes on what to focus on for the update.)

Glad you like the game!

It is funny you mention the Steamdeck, my partner and I have been considering expanding this off the web, the Steam Deck was an option we we've been looking at.

So once we finish adding in more content + updates for an upcoming build, we plan on putting this on Steam.

The first step is getting a SteamDeck for testing lol

You'll be the first to know once this is on Steam! :D

Thanks for playing!

Heya, glad you like the art and music! :D

And honestly, I had some different ideas when first seeing the themes but seeing the optional themes revolving around music, part of me felt like making a rhythm game. (First time making one and I too am not such a good rhythm game player myself. XP)

Currently, for the jam build I submitted, all 3 songs are not playable. (Though I do have a fix already made in my current code.) In my rush to submit the game on time, I completely forgot to set back the proper songs + levels. ^_^"

And YES, I would be continuing to develop this game. (Currently trying to figure out some cool effects + some additional game mechanics, plus tweaking some of the timing + current code.)

Note: Also, I would love to go back and completely overhaul the "Plague Princess" game I released from MGGJ8, I've improved a bit and I know how to make it much better now! >:D

+ And that is a good idea, I'll add that audio cue to help with player feedback!

I'll keep the Discord channel updated, once I have it in the spot that I would like it to be. ;P

Thanks for playing!

Very nice, I love TRPG's!

Interesting to keep the health and abilities the same throughout the levels, makes it more challenging each level! XD

The crayon background and art is a nice touch to help the game stand out!

I'm a big fan of the Fire Emblem games, would neat to see some future content with more characters, enemies and boss types! :D

Great work on this!

There is a lot of content in this game!

I found the graphics/ aesthetic to be oddly endearing.

Very cool to see multiple endings.

I only got the "Freedom Dive" ending so far, but I find it pretty clever to have an ending for each theme! :P

if you plan to continue working on this, it would be great to see an expansion to the player's moveset (kicks, grabs, throws, combos, specials would be cool to see! :D)

Great work on this!

Hey, glad you liked the game!

Honestly, I was obsessed with Guitar Hero 2 and 3 when they came out, so I have a soft spot for them. (Even though I am not that great at them lol) Plus, with the jam's theme being around music, I thought I'd give it a try!

And glad you like the art! My first time making big designs for a game, so it was a bit of a learning experience but I am pretty happy with the results! :D

I am also working on making some different difficulty modes, so it will give players some more options!

Thanks for playing!

It took a bit of tweaking a bit of the sine behavior to make the scaling and stretching a bit more "realistic", to kinda make it look like they are breathing. Glad you noticed! :D

That is an interesting way to chart a song! Honestly, charting just 1 of the songs has taken me a long time, so I'll take any ideas to speed up that process! lol

Ah, I see. That circle placement is an easy fix, I'll just move it a few pixels.

I'll add it to my list of things to fix. :P

Once the grading period ends, I'll upload an updated version so that players can play all 3 songs. (Totally messed up the starting point code lol)

Thanks for playing!

Nope, it's not you. It was me lol

Totally forgot to do a final check before submitting and accidentally left the main layout as the default instead of the splash screen . (Literally uploading it 15 mins before the due time! XD)

I already fixed it, just waiting for the rating period to finish before uploading the fixed version!

In the meantime, I'm going back in and updating some logic + adding some more mechanics + art.

Glad you enjoy the character and music! :D

Thanks for playing!

Thanks for playing!

Yeah, kinda messed up the level select code while frantically making some last minute code additions while putting it all together for submission lol

It is in the process of being fixed, so it should be ready as soon as I have some time to go back in and fix it.

I'll keep you and other players posted on the game submission page via an update. :D

This game's take on the theme is more like Freedom "Drive" lol :P

My unfunny joke aside, I love a lot of what was going on in this game!

As I was playing it, I was being reminded of those driving sections from the Sonic Adventure 2 game!

The track design + loops were my favorite parts in this game.

Had trouble at first making each checkpoint, but mastering the "art of drifting" helped with gaining more speed.

The speed lines in the corner of the game was a nice touch! Feels very "Initial D"!

I think with a few sound effects and a bit more polish, this can be an even more fun game!

Great work on this!

Love the art style of the game!

Cute story as well.

Also, I found it pretty unique that the MC made her own magical outfit. (At least the few Magical Girl shows I've seen, it's always an outfit that is already made for them or a reflection of their heart/ personality or something lol)

In addition, I'm surprised that Ren'Py was able to add a mini-game within the Visual Novel format.

It'd be neat to look into checking out Ren'Py's other capabilities.

Great work on this game!

Glad you like the game!

And thanks, adding the crocs was a last minute decision lol

More characters and animations are in the works.

I'm currently fixing the bugs and adding a bit more content for a future release.

Stay tuned! :D

Very fun game!

Felt like I was playing a spin-off of the NES Castlevania 3.

I love boss rushes and I found the player being able to knock back the boss with their attacks refreshing in these type of games!

The designs were neat for all 3 bosses!

It would be great to see more bosses and abilities in a future update!

Good job on this! :D

I can't believe this was made in RPG Maker, did not get that RPG Maker feel/ vibe from it at all! Impressive! :O

A fun and light-hearted game through all 3 levels.

Great to see some different difficulty + bullet types in the game. (Personally liked the stars bullet option.)

I was wondering how the washing machine would be incorporated, it did not disappoint lol

I also liked the creeping notes slowly getting increasingly in difficulty + bullet type over that portion of the boss phase.

Great work on this!

I had fun with the game!

I like that the boss has different phases and bullet patterns per phase.

Would love to see more characters and powers in a future version!

Very neat that you added some concept art to the game!

Also, I found it funny that one of the difficulty options was "Extreme Vegan" lol

Great work on this!

Yeah, that's a good point. XP

I'll add a tutorial in a future update.

Maybe something like FNF where it's a slower + easier song to get used to the controls.

It would also be a good part to go over some of the mechanics I didn't have time to finish/ add into this version of the game.

Updates coming soon!

Thanks for playing!

Yeah, I was rushing to get this submitted on time. (Submitted it with only 8 mins to go! XD)

So once the ratings/ gradings finish for the jam, I'll make sure to update the game and have it start from the main menu.

And multiple difficulties is on my checklist of things to add for a future update, so stay tuned! (Though I am not looking forward to it, charting was surprisingly time-consuming.)

And thank you very much, art is my favorite thing to work on for a game, so I hope to add more characters + animations for future updates. XP

Thanks for playing!

Just looked up what Santa Rockstar 4 is.

And it is awesome!

Definitely playing some of these tunes during the holidays! ^_^

And thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed the game! :D

Also, love the Samurai Champloo profile pic, one of my favorite anime!

You got it! >:D

This was made in RPG Maker? :O

I didn't know an ARPG could be made in it, though it does make sense with it being a whole RPG engine. XD

Very intuitive!

Was digging the vibe of the game, it gave me Shining Soul II (GBA) vibes!

And the game is much bigger than it looks, was getting lost in the large cave with all those monsters.

Also, a big fan of punny names "Pandorothy" is great! XD

Good job on making this game!

The most polished game I've played so far!

Everything works great! The timing is incredible and the songs are really catchy!

Also, love the children's storyboard art style!

Very unique and definitely a stand out in this game jam! :D

Love the premise for the game!

Feels like Undertale, but with Magical girls!

Also, it's a nice touch to see the Magical girls become more demonic/ monstrous as you battle them.

It becomes a lot more manageable as you start to remember the correct answers to the fights. XD

Also, I like that as the different phases went on, more music + instruments were added to the track.

Great work on this!

That is great to hear!

I'll see if I can fix the game after the grading period so that everyone can play the other 2 songs. ^_^"

Thanks for playing!

Wow, this was made in Construct 3!? :O

I need to play around with 3D models some more, this was great!

I got totally smoked by Regina and her Golden Bay team but very neat idea for a magical girl game!

I can imagine a whole league of magical girls that you play against, with each captain having their own unique abilities + powers.

Awesome work on this! :D

Thank you very much!

Glad you like the music! :D

Though, I messed up some of the code in my rush to submit. >_<

But I'll make sure to fix that after the jam's grading period and you can play the other 2 songs. ^_^"

And thanks for playing!

The level of polish on this game is amazing!

Love all the character designs (The jesters look great!) and these songs are super catchy!

And the presentation is top-notch, really liking the storyboard direction with the overworld map.

Diggin' the silliness of the first song. (The cartoon sound effects really take it over the top.)

Almost finished the second track but messed up there a bit in the end. ^_^"

Great work on this, it has serious potential!

A little more polish, some more songs + content and I can easily see this as a game on the Steam page. :D

Definitely coming back to finish this after trying out a few more games.

That's awesome to hear! :D

Yeah, I was rushing the game development these past few days. (Charting a song is surprisingly time consuming. >_<")

I'll go back and tweak it some more after the game jam's grading period.

Thanks for playing!

Glad you like the game!

And thank you, I think I spent maybe a bit too much time working on the character designs. XD

And agreed, been using Construct 3 since it runs the best on browsers/ web! (At least in my opinion.)

Thanks for playing!

Hey, glad you like the graphics!

It is my favorite part to work on when developing games. XD

Yes, the other 2 levels were playable, but in my haste to submit the game on time, I kinda messed up the code making some last minute tweaks. ^_^"

After the jam's grading period, I'll go back and fix the issue so that the other 2 levels can be played!

Thanks for playing!

Thanks for playing the game!

And awesome, cool to see a video of someone playing the game! :D

You were getting better scores every time, keep up the great work!

And glad you liked the graphics! Definitely my favorite part of the update so far.

Thanks again! :)

Thanks for playing the game!

The art has been definitely been my favorite part about this updated version! :P

Hey, thanks for playing the game!

Yep', my ambition got the best of me lol (And I took a week to work on the 1-Bit jam, next time, only 1 jam at a time! XD)

I am currently overhauling a previous game jam game (Bleek), so once I finish development on that, I'll get back to working on this game again. (Hopefully I can get it finished before the next Magical Girl Jam!)

I appreciate your honest assessment and they are definitely a priority to work on next, once I finish polishing some of the bugs. (So many bugs!)

I'll keep you updated once I've made some significant changes. :)

Hey, thanks for playing the game!

Yes, I definitely plan to finish development of this game! >:D

I am currently overhauling a previous game jam game (Bleek), so once I finish development on that, I'll get back to this game!

And honestly, I took a week to work on Bleek for the 1-Bit jam, next time, only 1 jam at a time! XD

Eager to show off some of the content that didn't make it to this build! :D

Thanks for playing the game!

Yep', my ambition got the best of me. XD

I will be updating this game over the coming weeks. Looking forward to showing you what I have in mind for a more mature version of the game!

Oh, and a good catch! (I think there was a similar bug with Cuphead, where you can spam switching between the two weapon to shoot both weapon at once.)

Hopefully, it will be more bug-free for the complete version! :D
