Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and streaming too! I'm starting to watch, and the comparison of the muscular chicken to Kenshiro is just perfect xd

We play games to have fun, and this game is really fun!

Amazing job!

Developer

Thank you very much! Speaking of playing to have fun, I'm waiting for your game!!

So, I have a 5120X1440 monitor, here's what the main menu looks like. A windowed option would be great for people like me with different aspect ratios, not everyone has the same monitor. Luckily, I have a crappy laptop as well, I tried it on that one.

Overall, it was really well polished, well executed, and fun. I didn't get very far since I am quite bad at platforming, and I found many of the rooms slow to move through. (I am a bit surprised that a chicken doesn't have the ability to glide a little.) I don't really know what would make the platforming better for me; the jump-off-a-ledge mechanic was definitely innovative, but I found it hard to pull off consistently. I probably would have gotten a lot farther if the platforming was easier, maybe with obvious bonuses just out of reach to encourage mastery.

Overall, this feels good for a complete game that someone would want to buy. Nice job with it!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

Also, it's great to get a feedback from a widescreen user! I'm starting to get really annoyed at how Unity handles this, because I was certain I'm adding black bars when the resolution isn't 16:9. I definitely have to fix this soon. Also, thank you for actually trying the game out on a different screen!

Developer

I've just made a fix for that resolution. Could you please check if it works for you now?

Praise:

The main menu especially the difficulty selection is fantastic. Super fun to look at and watch. The game overall was pretty fun! The story was humorous and I had lots of weapons to try out and the gameplay changed enough from level to level that I was interested the whole time and invested in the story. Your game's page is also fantastic and well designed.

Good job getting this far! Can't wait to see what else you guys add! And how the story progresses!

critique:

- I didn't know I could swap my weapons or that I had multiple weapons until I read the control settings

- More sounds! I want enemy death sounds, text, player death sounds. MORE SOUNDS!

- I want a "BWAK" when I die or something dramatic

- I feel like the music is too tranquil for the type of game (especially the first level) I wanted to be playing a rock metal chicken who is a bad ass, the boss fight on the last level was almost exactly the music I was expecting the whole time

-Foxes come out of nowhere after hitting a button would be cool if there was an indication that it was going to happen (foxes trapped in a cage or something)

-Foxes should patrol when player is above on a platform instead of just following the X coord of player (Fox was below me and I was on a platform and he stayed still)

- Green bounce platforms let me go right through ground (this is definitely intended but it seems odd/jarring to me)

- I have to jump to open a door and activate buttons because the chicken is too small to trigger the prompt

-Moving platforms are hard to time I think this is since they don't slow down at each edge

- visual indication on what stage platforms is on would be awesome (cracks or something)

- camera should pan to what door it unlocked or green bounce pad it adds so I can tell what I just affected

- assault rifle shoots like a shotgun?

- hit multiple times by the "spark traps" that appear and disappear. Give me IFrames or instakill me like other traps. Also most traps did not seem immediately obvious what they were until I got hit.

- auto reload should be a default setting imo

- enemies can come out of nowhere sometimes make like a "pipe" so it makes sense with the game world

Let me know if you have any questions to anything I said here!

Developer

Thank you for playing to the very end of the demo! You've made a lot of points here, that I'll have to carefully review. I love the ideas, too!

Right now, I'd like to ask about two of the points:

- What do you mean by the spark traps giving you IFrames? Does it mean there's some lag on hit?

- Green bounce platform let you go through the ground? This sounds like a glitch, after all. Could you send me some gif of this happening?

Also, about the shotgun, I know the image might be misleading, but this is an intended reference to the SPAS15 firearm (I'm responding to this, because I'd like the "excuse" to be stated somewhere)

Great work :). You can feel the passion while playing :D. Looking forward for the final release ! If I had to said something to improve it I would like to get an more arcade/efficient way of aiming/firing maybe ? Maybe a bit like broforce or something, only keyboard/pad based interactions with quicker/larger/clipped fire/gun collisions (idk if that make sense) ? Maybe its something with limiting the amount of angle choice and/or increase/work on the bullet's area.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, and for all of the precious feedback!

Limiting aiming angle, as well as increasing bullet's effective area would be an answer to the lack of controller support (as far as aiming goes, that is). However, this would likely require A LOT of changes, and is also not really how I imagine it working. So, I'll need to debate more on this matter and check the feedback, if others raise this point as well.

This is really well done, I love all the attention to detail (like the chicken cursor), and the artwork is really nice too.

The gunplay is actually very satisfying, in a large part because the audio is so well done. I felt like the prequel level maybe needs tweaking to show off the gunplay a bit better, like maybe you could get a gun towards the end of it or something? You already saw on stream the parts I failed at again and again, so I hope that is useful feedback too :D

Overall, really great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! Appreciate the stream, it was very educative!

I'm going to tease, that a firearm is, in fact, available on that level, but it's in a secret area. However, I think I'm going to add another one, outside of a secret.

yeah, the default controls are kinda based on what works for me ;D but knowing that it might not work for others, redefinable controls were a must have.

Good luck with the game, and thanks for trying it out!

Great job on this jam! I love the agrarian-militaristic-glitchy-futurism aesthetic of chickens in VR preparing to go and fight a war against the consumers. It's right up my alley. It was fun exploring the world and progressing through the tutorial level. I did have some difficulty with the precision platforming in some sections, but other than that I had a blast. Looking forward to seeing more!

Developer

thank you for playing! Can you also tell me, what do you think may have been lacking in terms of precision? Like, was the chicken moving too fast mid-air, so you've been flying over the platforms?

Submitted(+1)

yeah, more specifically, I had a hard time with landing on the smaller platforms. I'm not really sure of the cause, but I think the mid air movement was a little fast and the margin for error was small. Also maybe I'm just not the best at those sorts of things?

Developer

understood, thank you! I'll keep that in mind, and see if it causes issues for others too.

Very nice game!

Developer

Thank you for playing, and for the great feedback! You sure gave me something to think about :D
