How does your game fit the theme "Unconventional Means"?
Rather than defeating enemies via direct attacks, you can teleport them into danger or kill them using their own attacks or allies

Oh man you really nailed the retro feel with this game! Audio and graphics are great, and the gameplay is pretty fun too! Nice and simple in this case really goes a long way, good job!
Wasn't expecting to still get comments this long after the contest. Thanks for playing
Really cool game! Loved the color sceme and especially the mega man like music! Had a ton of fun playing!
cool game! Definitely has a nice retro theme to it with the art style and music/sounds! I like the unconventional mechanics you added to, definitely makes it more enjoyable to play & is pretty creative! Would have liked to to speed up faster, but otherwise good work!
That's the most common criticism I've gotten, but I'm not sure if I want to change it. My best run is 1.82x speed which is probably better than most people get, and that takes just over 6 minutes to achieve if I did the calculations right. For me personally, that's long enough to feel strongly invested in the run without being insane like the multiple hour sessions I needed to reach the top 10 leaderboards in One Finger Death Punch 2's survival mode (which is why I dropped that game). If I come back to the project I will consider some kind of dynamic speed adjustment, like collectible clocks that raise the speed instantly.
Loved the art and the sound design, very retro, had NES feel to it!
Cool game! I enjoyed the teleportation mechanic quite a bit!
awesome work! really fun to play, and audio is really well done too.
The Sisyphean Ninja Escape Sequence Ups and Downs
Ups:
Downs:
Overall, one of my favourite games of the jam! Excellent job!
Other people have said this, but I think the rate at which speed increases could be doubled or maybe even tripled.
That being said, solid mechanics and an awesome soundtrack make this one of the best entries I've played. Got a soundcloud?
Yes: https://soundcloud.com/firespike33 (a lot of the stuff on there is rather old and doesn't include my more recent soundtrack work on Coma State Eden and Now You've Made Me Crabby, but I might be adding some of those soon)
Regarding this game, if I make future builds I'll consider either making the speed increase faster or allowing the player to control it somehow, e.g. picking up an item that instantly boosts your speed and gives you a large score bonus.
Brutally hard from the first 30 seconds like jumping into a round of Ninja Gaiden or Contra on the NES but with its own mechanics and strategies. This is really well designed and there are several things which add to the complexity like selectively using your teleporter to keep you away from the edges but not so much that you can't see what is coming up and fall in a pit. Realyl well done!
lol thanks. I have some people saying the game starts out too slow, but if you found it brutally hard then I think I probably struck a decent balance
I think the balance is perfect for a game jam game although I would recommend escalating more quickly because once you figure out the basics there's a period where it feels too easy
Personally I like how it takes a decent amount of time to make progress because it makes you feel more invested in the run, but I see where you're coming from
The reflect and teleport mechanics feel great to use and they overall make for a super addictive game. I'm also really loving the soundtrack. I would personally increase the difficulty (the speed increase is fairly slow) and add a camera shift if you teleport too far ahead and can't prepare for the obstacles ahead. I still felt like this game was excellently designed and I didn't run into any issues while playing. Great work!
The camera already shifts to keep you from going to the very edge of the screen. The limit used to be a little closer to the left. Maybe I should've kept it that way.
Amazing game! Its hard to understand at the start but once you get it its just awesome!
Man you absolutely killed it! The asthetic is impecable and the music, oh my god the music, you have to tell me what software did you use to make it because I love it, the best soundtrack in the jam by far! The mechanics are very interesting as well, specially the teleport one. Nice job!
Thanks. The music and SFX were made with Famitracker. It's basically THE program for making hardware-accurate NES music
Playing this game gave me a feeling of nostalgia. Although I have never played this kind of game, I remember in my childhood there was some kind of football and a pistol.
Really nice retro game!
Loved the music, I think make it faster at the beggining will help, but that probably a preference
Keep it up!
Thanks. I wanted it to be really easy at the start so there isn't too much pressure on you when you're first learning the mechanics
There was some really interesting stuff in this game that I wasn't expecting -like only being able to knock enemies into each other or teleporting into another dude to get through a blocked wall -also loooooved the music!!! The graphics were great too -gave me mega man vibes xD Awesome work! :D
good concept, cool artstyle and music feels like playing NES games.
nice game.
These mechanics are so good and so well put, that it makes this game very fun and tricky! I could play that for hours! Really good game!!
Awesome game rivalled only by Golden eye 007 for the nintendo 64
This is my favorite game of the game jam so far! The vertical wall made me scream at first. :D
Thanks! Yeah I wanted to have some obstacles that forced you to use your teleport
Decent and fun game. The music and sound effects are good.
