Nice, that was fun. The visuals and audio is great and on point, and the gameplay was tight but fun.
A little nitpick is that I find the floor to be a bit too slippery, so it was quite hard to land my jump.
Thanks for the feedback!
The platforming is a bit too unforgiving for how tanky the mob enemies are, otherwise its a solid entry. Sound was great, overall game design was great. Just needs a little more polish. Great job for 2 weeks.
Thanks!
The Mega Man style gameplay was really solid, though I felt like the character's momentum could be a bit too severe at times, especially when try to land or correct midair direction. It actually feels a bit more like a Sonic game during the platforming sections because of it. I'd also say that the enemy designs encourage too much of a static approach of running back to or ducking in and out of safe spots. Ducking to dodge attacks can feel good but when the attacks are so telegraphed the tactic can feel a bit rote. Those criticisms aside, this was a genuinely challenging retro sidescroller with impressive visuals, so I think it was great overall!
Thanks for the feedback!
The comparison to Sonic is especially interesting to me, because truth be told, I'm a lot more familiar with that series than with Megaman (I only played a little bit of the very first one, though I'd like to get better acquainted with the series at some point).
Cool platformer with some impresive spritework (especially considering how detailed they are for their size :o)
The soundtrack is a total banger as well, these tunes are some top notch NES style tracks.
I also really like the humor of the game with its clear riff on Robocop vs Terminator with these enemies, and the fact you eat donuts even if you’re a bot cause that’s what cops do XD
While the controls are fine, the game’s difficulty balance is a bit too much on the hard side at times, escpecially with how the knockback can sometimes sendyou flying into spikes for an instant death, thakfully this is mitigated a bit by the unlimited lives and the checkpoint system where you put them right after some of the biggest difficulty spikes to avoid starting all over again, very grateful for that :D
One small issue as well, the laser SFX on the bossfight seems way much louder than all the rest, so it would be nice to tone it down a bit.
Other than these it’s a nice little game, well done :)
Thank you very much for the review!
And yeah, the idea for the game was that it takes place in a world that operates on a mixture of action movie tropes and sheer stupidity. So if/when I make it a full game, there might be more spoofs of iconic 80-90s IPs in there :P
Haha Awesome ! Well i hope you get to make more of it then, with all the references you could make the spoof possibilities are endless XD
The Controls: who thought its a good idea to make Jump on Z? on US Layout its on Y which makes it complete inaccessible and bad to control also the Fire Key on X
Did you every tried to press D and X, Y(Z) at the same time properly?
Please stick with regular Controls, it has a reason why we have those Standard Keys such as Space for Jump or Left-Shift for (LMB) for Shooting you cannot controll D and X at the same time with ur Index Finger.
Besides that the Game makes a very good fundamental impression and it would surely benefit from more Levels. Visuals are nice, the Controls (besides the Keybinding) feels good.
Keep up the good Work
Well, the idea was that you use the arrow keys with your right hand and have your left one on X and Z, I just also added WASD support just in case. Though now that I think about it, some keyboards have Z and Y swapped, which would be a problem.
Anyway, I was thinking in the future versions I'll just add customizable controls so the players can remap the keys as they like. And also gamepad support.
Thanks for the feedback!
Those jump challenges are to hard for me :( The boss is more easier to pass than those jumps into spike pits
I never know if I'm making a game too easy or too hard ^^'
Oh, and the boss was actually supposed to be somewhat more challenging with more attacks, but I ran out of time and couldn't implement that 😩
Nice game, I like platformer and this is really good. After the first checkpoint was quite hard to pass.
Good Work.
Thank you very much!
Fantastic platformer! Beautiful sprites, tiles and sound. Had a lot of fun with it, also very grateful for the checkpoints.
Thanks! And you're welcome for the checkpoints! :P
The gameplay is solid, the music is sensational and upbeat, it really gave me megaman vibes all through out! The enemies were difficult but to a good degree it made it feel like a puzzle experience at times.
Suggestions! And this is because the game is really good! The laser beam of the boss was a bit jarring. but that is me just nit picking
The game itself was fantastic!
Overall a great experience!
Thank you very much for the kind words!
Regarding the laser beam - what do you mean? Jarring in what way? 🤔
