Interesting RPG but pretty tough. I'd think about toning down the enemy speed and/or damage. The Captain seemed underpowered. The 2nd from left was a bit stronger. The 2 on the right were the strongest, magic to hit all with good damage and a high single target damage dealer. I don't think normal random encounters should be so life threatening. I had characters die during a number of encounters. I was able to beat the game and didn't Game Over. I liked the music and sprites for everything. Just think the difficulty could be toned down.
this is gonna take a while to finish up I like the nostalgia of pokemon games and ragnarok like rpgs.
you have rehersed well for cosmic horror jam XD
I like your character's personalities! Quite a long story for a jam entry, but you delivered a great game.
I can see you are mastering the JRPG genera.
The way the music matched the story beats was wonderful!
The UI looks great and intuitive, I especially like the way information is displayed on the character portraits.
I think I would like to see some animation of the player characters doing attacks instead of just the portraits, but you gotta pick the battles in a jam.
Great job on this game! RPGs are such a fun genre, and the world-building you have in this game is really cool! The best part of this game by far is the pixel art. The overworld art is amazing, the dialogue portraits are fun to look at, and the UI looks really cool as well, it helps to create a cool neon sci-fi aesthetic. I also like the Final Fantasy-like active battle segments, it keeps players on their toes, and it's a lot of fun!
One thing I will say is the intro segment with the dialogue goes on somewhat long, and the single-outcome choices make the intro feel less interactive and the protagonist less relatable to the player. Something that could be done is to allow the player to explore more of the ship before it crashes, or have the choices affect Vel's personality or the other character's relationship with Vel. This isn't anything game-breaking or anything that ruins the story, these are more of just ideas in case you want to continue this game later on.
This is a great game, though! I can tell a lot of passion was put into it! You guys did a great job, keep it up!
An impressive amount of world-building on display here, especially considering the short jam time. You can tell that a lot of love was put into both characters, environments and sound design. Nice!
Thank you! I tend to start most of my projects with a Scrivener file rather than a gameplay sheet, so I'm happy that the story emphasis could be felt!
Very impressive for a game only made in 2 weeks. Visuals, writing and music is as brilliant as all your previous entries too.
Thanks! I did take some time off work to make this so I'm glad it paid off!
the phantasy star vibes amazes me
congratz for certain is a great game
Thanks! Phantasy Star 4 was an especially strong visual inspiration!
Cool Star trekking Jrpg adventure :D
The character designs are really awesome cool to see the progress since your Airborne Wastes series ^^ and i like the idea of having a ship crew in space as a setting for a jrpg party, it works really well.
The battle system seems interesting as well if a bit complex for less experienced jrpg players such as myself, but still quite enjoyable.
Story wise this is also quite engaging, it gave me strong system shock 2 vibes, and the vibes got confirmed when i reached the battle with Bartho’s avatar (which i failed cause i’m terrible :p)
Music is also pretty neat and had the track changes really well synched to give the proper mood for each situation.
Overall really solid entry that seems also quite packed for a jam game so mad respect on that.
You guys did great :)
Thanks a ton! This project did somewhat start out with the question "what would System Shock 2 look like as a jrpg?" so you were definitely right about the inspiration!
