I like your game! The graphics look nice, the music is simple but pleasing, I like the ability to choose different types of weapons from the start, and the gameplay is fun and easy to pick up. Great job!

Pretty cool game! It's short but still a lot of fun! Great job!

That's a good idea with the items. If I remade this game, the items would be something I would definitely implement differently (I'd probably scrap destroying items entirely since items disappear anyway when you collect them). Thanks again for taking the time to review though and even telling me what you liked about the game, I appreciate it!

Also, I've never heard of Guardian Legend before, I'll be sure to check it out!

Thanks for the in-depth review! I'm glad you enjoyed the atmosphere of the game, that part is my favorite aspect of the game as well!

I also appreciate you telling me how your gameplay experience went, it helps a lot to see how your run in particular went. I do feel like the destroyable collectibles hindered many player's experiences (I like your use of the term "item hostage"), especially since the player has to frequently shift focus between dodging bullets and shooting enemies while avoiding shooting limited collectibles. The velocity definitely has to change as well, since it didn't fit well in a danmaku.

I appreciate that you were willing to play 40 minutes of my game, though! I'm glad you found the atmosphere interesting enough to keep you motivated. Have a great rest of the jam, gloriousclover!

Thanks for reviewing my game, CrimsonBulb!

Looking back, I feel like those two mechanics made the gameplay unfairly hard. I initially intended the game to just be difficult as a challenging danmaku, but the velocity mechanic (which actually isn't present in danmaku games for good reason) and the destroyable collectibles made it so players had to focus on too much at once, which hindered the experience.

Other than that, I'm glad you felt it was a solid experience! Thanks again for checking out my game!

Great job with this game! I really like the idea of being a mech repairman and using a control panel to manage construction machinery to repair mechs. Also, the dragon-like design of the mech is super cool! The art is super well done as well, and the design of the UI in the control panel is a really nice touch. Keep it up!

Great job, I had a lot of fun with this! My favorite part of this game was how the player also controls a mech that can move around freely, so they can keep engaged with the game during the enemy wave phases rather than the game doing everything for the player, turning it into an idle game. It was a lot of fun and kept me intrigued! I also like the colony farm aesthetic, it was really unique and gave the game a unique personality that I really liked.

One thing I will note is that the game is a bit confusing at the beginning. I thought the roads in the colony would be where the enemies would spawn and move along (as is with most TD games I'm used to), so I placed way too many turrets along them until I realized the enemies spawned in the other direction.

This was still a lot of fun and all of you did a great job with this game!

Thanks again for playing my game, Thinker! I'm glad you enjoyed the exploration! I've never done seed-based generation games before, so I'm glad you found it fun! Looking back, though, I agree that the danmaku probably shouldn't have had the same "floating" elements as the overworld did, although I'm glad you were still able to have fun playing. Thanks again for the review, I hope you enjoy the rest of the jam!

Thanks again for playing my game! Looking back, I think I made some mechanics more "punishing" than "difficult", and the floaty movement during the danmaku segments was definitely one of them. Still, I'm glad you enjoyed the music and aesthetics.

Great job on this game! RPGs are such a fun genre, and the world-building you have in this game is really cool! The best part of this game by far is the pixel art. The overworld art is amazing, the dialogue portraits are fun to look at, and the UI looks really cool as well, it helps to create a cool neon sci-fi aesthetic. I also like the Final Fantasy-like active battle segments, it keeps players on their toes, and it's a lot of fun!

One thing I will say is the intro segment with the dialogue goes on somewhat long, and the single-outcome choices make the intro feel less interactive and the protagonist less relatable to the player. Something that could be done is to allow the player to explore more of the ship before it crashes, or have the choices affect Vel's personality or the other character's relationship with Vel. This isn't anything game-breaking or anything that ruins the story, these are more of just ideas in case you want to continue this game later on.

This is a great game, though! I can tell a lot of passion was put into it! You guys did a great job, keep it up!

Thanks again for your feedback! I'm glad you liked the exploration element, I definitely wanted to go for a more eerie and unknown theme this time around.

Thank you for your review, I'm glad you enjoyed the aesthetic and UI! I tried to base it on how it would look in an old computer terminal or something that would be seen in the cockpit of a mech. I'm also glad you liked the game over messages, I felt like it would be good to give the player some help for such a difficult game.

I can see how the velocity-based movement makes the bullet hell/danmaku aspect of the game more difficult, though. I thought it would be interesting to have the player dodge bullets while still simulating space movement, but almost all danmaku games keep the player in place so they can dodge bullets better, and keeping a player's velocity amplifies the difficulty to an unnecessary level.

But anyway, thank you again for trying my game out, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the MechJam!

Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the game for the most part! I wanted the player to feel like they were floating through space with the velocity mechanic, while also being able to let them stop and move slower to avoid leaving the signal zone and dodge bullets better.

The reason why I was thinking of having destroyable projectiles was because I didn't want the player to be able to spam-click enemies without consequence, but I can see how it makes the game way more difficult. There are probably other ways I can do this better in the future (like making a heat/cooldown mechanic). Also, I agree that making a minimap or some other navigational system would help gameplay. I would've wanted to do something like that, but I ran out of time.

Anyway, thank you again for playing my game, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the jam!

This is amazing! Everything works so well together to create such an eerie feeling to the game. The plot and subtle worldbuilding through the logs as well as the visual storytelling was super well done. The character sprites and color palettes helped create a darker and more melancholy mood. The music made the entire lab feel eerie and alien. Even the extra polish you added -- like the special effects on the damage markers and the slight static effect that covers the screen -- really adds to the experience. You did an amazing job on this, and it's even more impressive that you did this solo! Great game, can't wait to see what you make in the future!

Also, I really like the Metroid references, it's fun to see them used in a way where it's still an original story but a fun nod to the classic games that inspired the metroidvania genre.

I really liked this game! My personal favorite aspect of it is the art style. I liked the "painted" way the backgrounds looked, and the character art was nice to look at as well. The character designs are amazing as well, it was a super unique idea to put yōkai in mech suits, and it looks insanely cool! The music and UI sounds were a super nice addition to the game's aesthetic as well. Great job, Berry, this is a fun game!

Great job again, PixelMetalWolf! It's super impressive that you were able to do this by yourself, you put a lot of effort into this! I like the inclusion of missions this time around, it helps keep the player engaged and motivated.  I also like the almost Metal Gear Solid-like HUD you used, it's really fun to look at!

Something I would say about this would be the difficulty. This game felt almost too easy, since enemies were too slow to pose a real threat, and the map layout made sure you could either get to a high point and aim down at them or hide behind a building and easily prepare a counterattack. I tended to pick the quicker characters (100 HP with Fast movement), but I never felt like losing health was ever a worry.

Even still, this was another fun mech shooter game, it was a lot of fun to play, and I can see all the effort you put into it. Great job!

I like your game! I really like the ZX Spectrum classic effects, and the HUD was really nice to look at as well! It made me feel like I was actually piloting a mech. The environment design was cool as well. Even with the limited color palette and pixel sizes, the tiles were super well done, and they helped to create an eerie alien environment for the player to explore.

One thing I would say is that high jumping and heavy gravity are a bit disorienting, especially when paired with the slow walking speed, and it makes it difficult to aim at blocks that are difficult to reach otherwise. This isn't a game-breaking problem, but it's something that could help improve the game if you ever want to go back to it.

That aside, this is still a really fun game and solid entry, and it's really fun to explore! Great job!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

I play on an MSI Windows 11 with an Intel Core i7 processor, so I'm not really sure what the problem is. Sorry about all the confusion, I really wish I knew what was going on.

Other than that, great job again with this game, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the jam!

Yeah, of course. It happened anywhere I fell; I would fall, the game would fade in and out, and I would continue to fall. My guess as to what's happening is that it's trying to reload the position that I was last on land, but due to an error of some sort it didn't stop registering the location I was at even after I wasn't grounded anymore, so it tried respawning me in the exact same place I was. (I tried uploading a video and gif to show you a bit better, but itch.io isn't letting me right now, I'll edit this message if I can get it working 🤦).

It might just be something on my end though, it's good to try asking your friends to run it on their devices too to see if they have the same issue.

Hopefully this was able to help! Great job again, Tiruu!

Thank you! I tried doing something different with this game, so I hope you enjoyed it!

This was a great game! It gave me a lot of MegaMan X-like vibes, it was really fun! I really like the graphics in this one, and the music is awesome as well! This was a lot of fun, and I had a great time playing it. Good job, Jamphibious!

Great job with this game! On-foot racing games aren't done much at all nowadays, so making one for this mechjam is pretty cool. I like the graphics as well, the color choices made for a really cool cyberpunk aesthetic, and the mechs themselves looked good too! One thing I would say is that the respawning is a bit bugged, as whenever I would fall the screen would go black, and then I'd keep falling. Other than that, though, I like this game a lot and I hope to see it be continued someday! Great work!

Ooh, that's a pretty cool way to do your art!

Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed this! I might come back to this type of gameplay style later, because it was pretty fun to code

This is a great sequel, even better than the original in my opinion! The puzzle mechanics are super fun, the Blasting Bot character has so much charm in their dialogue, the visuals are fun to look at, and the sound helps enhance the experience. The PICO-8 is such a cool fantasy console, and you've definitely used its abilities well. You're improving a lot as a developer, great job!

Good job! It's a very tranquil game, and the music really helps make the experience all the more calming. This was a super creative game, and you did a great job with it! Keep it up!

This game is amazing!! Fighting games are my favorite game genre, but they tend to be difficult to code (at least for me), so the fact you were able to submit one for this jam is amazing! The gameplay is fun and fast-paced which feels difficult but fair and rewarding. I love the GameBoy Color/Neo Geo Pocket aesthetic the game has, it reminds me of the classic SNK portable fighting games. The graphics are amazing, even with the pixel and color limitations of the sprites, everything is fun to look at. The music is great too, I like how every character has their own themes. You did amazing with this game, and I really enjoyed playing it!

Good job with this game! I like the board-based gameplay, it's really cool how you thought it all out!

Very fun game! I like your unique idea with having a robot fight club under the grounds of the junkyard, it's a cool idea that makes the game more fun! The graphics for the robots were well-done, and the music was good as well! Great job everyone!

First of all, I love the paper 2D storybook aesthetic! It gives the game such a unique personality, and it's really nice to look at as well! I think your ideas going in are super cool as well! Even without the dialogue, the visual storytelling from the environment and the "pilot view" inside the mech was very well done. I never play clicker games much, but the way you created your game kept me engaged. You guys did an amazing job on your game!!

This was a lot of fun! I really love the nostalgic Metroid feel the game had, and the gameplay was really good as well. I can tell you're passionate about metroidvanias. I think the only thing I would have to say is that there were some areas that I got stuck in because I didn't have the right keys to open certain doors and I couldn't climb back up to where I was, so I would have to restart my game. Still, I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into the gameplay, and it's so much fun exploring around and finding new items I haven't found before! Keep it up, this is great!!

Good job on your game! Space shooter-type games are always really fun, and it's nice you added a score feature so people can keep track of their progress! My current high score is 524906. Keep it up, I'm excited to see more of what you create!

Good job! I really like the way the robots look, I really like the almost "pixelated 3D" look of the characters. The music is great as well, and I like the idea behind the gameplay! I do think that it can sometimes be a bit too difficult at times, and I find myself getting cornered too quickly, but overall I like this game a lot! Great job everyone!

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

Yeah, I'm starting to get into Haxeflixel to make more games! Thanks for the input, I'll definitely add more of a tutorial if I end up remaking the game. And thanks for playing, I'm glad you had a fun time!

Thank you for playing! If I ever remake this game, I'm definitely going to have a better tutorial on how to play, but I'm glad you enjoyed the experience overall!

This is amazing!! I love the classic 60's style comic book aesthetic, and I feel like it complements the gameplay and storytelling so well! I'd be absolutely hyped to see this as a full game someday. So to answer your question: yes, you're definitely headed in the right direction for this game. Great job!

Really cool! I liked the art style you've added to the game, I can tell you put a lot of time into it!

Oh ok, I'll try to see what it was. Thank you for playing, though, I'm glad you enjoyed it for the most part!
