Interesting concept. I noticed a slight parallax effect with the background, which I thought was a nice touch. Good use of art and sound. Found the jumping to not feel right at all. It was hard to control where you landed. Platforms that should have been easy to reach were hard as you would over shoot or just slide off. I think you could easily work on this more to have a nice demo to add to your portfolio.

This is such a good entry, the fact its your first game is even more impressive! ^^ I can tell your gonna make some really neat stuff if you keep going with making games.

There really isn't much I could say that would be helpful to you, stuff you will pick up naturally yourselves over time. So I'd just say because this is probably your first game jam, to not be disheartened by the results, and keep doing game jams!!! :) You'd be surprised how many aspiring devs lose motivation after their first game jam, chances are we all score badly, its just how it is :')
And remember everyone here, playing/rating & commenting on your game are ALL game devs, not general audience who would be your players :) keep making games! this is way better than anything I could have made for the first few years, so you've def got this!

The upbeat music got me going I guess :D

The movement is pretty floaty and it somewhat reminds me of La Mulana
Any game with bosses are pretty cool in my opinion (I didn't know how to implement it hehe)

I am quite jealous because my game doesn't have any music nor sfx (and also a boss) :(

A great first project in gaming, nice job.  I played to the end, and I liked that you made your gamemaking journey such a part of the game and game page, it made it more fun.  I also like that you have a vision for the world you want to create; that came through especially in the menu and opening scene.  Nice!

For all wondering about the boss:

There are some visual cues missing. The mechanic is, that he's invulnerable at all times, unless you manage to destroy his shield in the shield phase.

Couldn't find out how to damage the boss. I shot him like a lot of times and it seemed like nothing was happening, but i can't be certain.

PLayed it, died a lot at the boss - I would ,love a indikator on hitting the boss correctly?! or a healthbar? Keep up the work!

Good job on putting your first game together and sharing it in this game jam! Hopefully you learned quite a bit along the way :) I have some constructive feedback I'd like to give on my experience playing through this:

1. Do not force playing to restart from the beginning of the game when dying. It's rude to the player's time UNLESS that's part of the game's core mechanics.

2. The player controls. The jumping was single-height and the left-right controls were very floaty. Even basic platforming challenges felt irritating to complete because I'd whiff past a platform due to the unresponsiveness of the controls. Again, this could be by design, but I assume that floaty platforming was not actually the focus of the game.

3. The final boss -- I think I did damage to him once (he flashed red), but I wasn't sure how to reproduce that again. There wasn't much feedback on if I was successfully hitting him until I saw that red flash once! If only I knew how to do it again...

All that said, congrats to you both on putting this project together! This sort of game genre is a very ambitious first step :)

Intro reminded me of metroid, loved it. But really, it wasn't a metroidvania, there were like 2 branching paths, both are just different ways to the same place. Also, different sprite sizes tend to look odd, please just make a really big boss sprite instead of a small one which you upscale. Aside from that, the jump was a little finicky at times, but sound design, the player controller and the intro were all really nice.

But uhh, idk if you do have a save system on your non-web builds, but after dying on(what i assume to be) the final boss, and not being able to respawn close by, i just used that as an excuse to quit. Sorry if that means i missed a large portion of your game.

Thank you for the constructive feedback! Midway through the month we kinda realized how much we suck at actually creating good visuals so some of it is awkwardly merged together, that's true. We had so much more choices and branching in mind but just didn't have the experience to put it together in time, so we settled for a small, linear prototype for now. Spoiler: Killing the first Boss would have actually been the end of the current state of the prototype so you didn't miss much.

Wow that was a super epic intro! Really set the mood :D  Took me a bit to get used to the jump arc, but then I was exploring well.  Great job !
