Use of the limitation
The limitation of not having water for a fishing game was a curve ball! At first we did not like this at all, but realized it was a perfect challenge and instantly give us the inspiration to build a desert / sandy mini rpg with a fishing element.

Cookies eaten
The amount of cookies would be closer to around a couple dozen (24)... but If you include cookies for the browser, then I would say 100!.

Typing game was a fantastic Idea, nice work!

Fun game and put my typing to the test! When I failed it would be nice to see why (as ofcourse I button mash and don't always know what I'm typing). Nice sound / music :)

Developer

Thank you for your feedback and for enjoying the game! We're really glad to hear it put your typing skills to the test and that you liked the sound and music. Your suggestion about providing feedback when a typing error occurs is excellent. Understanding where mistakes were made can indeed help improve typing skills and enhance the gaming experience. We'll definitely consider implementing a feature that gives more insight into errors for future updates. Thanks again for your valuable input and support!

I am not very fast at typing. This is not what I expected when the game started, but it was fun.

Developer

Thank you for giving our game a try and for sharing your experience!

Really cute idea! I love the art, it would be nice if the gameplay part was a bit more cohesive. Kinda felt like I was playing a completely different game!

Your point about the gameplay feeling somewhat disjointed is well taken, and we'll certainly look into ways to make the game experience more cohesive and integrated. It's feedback like yours that helps us improve and refine our game. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

Took me a second in the beginning to realize it was a typing game, I should probably read descriptions more often :p I feel like the music matches the vibe quite well. Overall quite enjoyable!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! We're glad the music matched the vibe of the game and you found it enjoyable once you realized it was a typing game. We are working on making this more apparent.

Would be great for learning typing for younger ones

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your kind comment! We're thrilled to hear that you see the potential of our game as a valuable tool for teaching typing to younger players. We designed the game with the intention of making it enjoyable and educational for a wide range of ages, and your feedback reinforces our belief that it can indeed be a great resource for learning. Encouraging typing skills in a fun and engaging way is at the heart of what we aimed to achieve. We'll continue to explore ways to make the game even more accessible and beneficial for young typists, ensuring it remains an enjoyable learning experience. I like typing games. This one is unforgiving! No mistakes before losing(which maybe what a sloppy typist like me needs). I liked the little hub world, but wasn't able to do anything in it other than interact with the one typing mini game. Was their plans to add more activities in the hub world? Just felt like something was missing.  Would be excited to play again if more was added.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback and for sharing your thoughts on our typing game! We're glad to hear that you enjoy typing games and found our approach challenging. We understand that the unforgiving nature of the game can be quite demanding, especially for players who are still honing their typing skills. It's designed to push players to improve, but we appreciate that balance is key, and we're looking into ways to make it more accessible while still offering a challenge.

Regarding the world, you've touched on something we're very excited about. Yes, there were indeed plans to expand the world with more activities and mini-games. The current version was just the beginning, and we aimed to gauge player interest and feedback before fully diving into further development.

We're thrilled to hear that you'd be excited to play again with more content added. Your support and feedback are incredibly valuable to us as we continue to develop and improve the game. Stay tuned for upcoming updates!

Awesome premise. My only criticism is that the walking feels a bit "floaty." Everything else is super cool, and the art looks fantastic!

Developer

Thank you for the awesome feedback and for pointing out how the walking feels. We're actually planning to add a shadow effect under the characters to make their movement feel more grounded and less "floaty." We hope this will improve the game experience. Thanks again for your support and helpful criticism!

This is definitely the kind of typing game I would want to play in school lol. I would have liked to see more of the "lore and secrets" so promised in the description or have the building able to be entered. But good job!

Developer

Thank you so much for your encouraging comment! We're thrilled to hear that our game resonates with what you'd enjoy playing, especially in a school setting. Given the 72-hour time limit of the game jam, we were indeed extremely limited in how much we could explore the game's lore and secrets, as well as interactive elements like entering buildings. However, we're excited to let you know that we plan to continue developing "Fish & Chip" beyond the game jam. We aim to expand on the story, deepen the world's mysteries, and include more interactive features in future updates. Please follow us for the latest updates and to see how the game evolves. Your support and feedback mean the world to us, and we can't wait to share what's next!

damn to actually make a trailer in the time is crazy

Developer

Thank you so much! Yes, putting together a trailer in such a short time frame was indeed a crazy challenge, but we're thrilled to hear that it caught your attention. It was a sprint to showcase the essence of "Fish & Chip" and get everyone as excited about the game as we are. Your appreciation really means a lot to us. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to develop the game!

If it were possible to click retry without touching the mouse, I would have played this game much longer.
For now my score is 6 and 43 WPM

Developer(+1)

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us! Interestingly, we've received similar comments from close friends too. We understand how interrupting it can be to switch from keyboard to mouse, especially in a typing-focused game like ours. To address this, we're excited to let you know that we're working on adding a keybinding/hotkey feature that will allow players to retry without having to take their hands off the keyboard. We believe this improvement will enhance the gameplay experience and keep you engaged for even longer. Stay tuned for this update, and thank you again for your valuable input!

Congrats on finishing a game jam!

I like the concept of typing fish names to catch fish, very cool.

I struggled a little with the map, since I didn't know exactly where the fishing spot was, or if I should be going into the building to do something. Great work overall though!

Oh, also doing a trailer for your game jam game is impressive! Very nice to see

Developer

Thank you so much for the congratulations and for your kind words about our game! We're really glad you enjoyed the unique concept of typing fish names to catch them. Your feedback about the map and finding the fishing spots is incredibly valuable to us. We realize now that clearer guidance could enhance the gameplay experience, and we're looking into ways to improve navigation and make objectives more obvious, whether it's finding fishing spots or interacting with buildings.

We're thrilled you found the trailer impressive! It was a challenge to put it together within the game jam's timeframe, but we felt it was important to share a glimpse of what "Fish & Chip" has to offer.

Your feedback is a huge part of how we'll continue to improve and expand the game. Thanks again for your support and insightful comments!

The game is unique, I like the challenge presented in this game, I think that more variety and different types of challenges in the game would add more to the game. Great Job!

Developer(+1)

Your suggestion for more variety and different types of challenges is spot on, and we're already brainstorming new ideas to incorporate into the game. Taking part in the development of "Fish & Chip" has been an incredibly enriching and joyful journey for me. As a developer, music artist, and animation artist on the team, I had the opportunity to wear multiple hats, each presenting its unique set of challenges and learning opportunities.

Diving into the development aspect, using Phaser.js allowed me to push my technical skills to new heights. It was thrilling to blend typing game elements with fishing mechanics in a desert setting, a concept that I believe brings a fresh twist to the indie game scene. This part of the process not only sharpened my coding skills but also deepened my understanding of game design and player engagement.

On the musical front, composing the soundtrack was a venture into combining traditional desert melodies with a whimsical undertone, aiming to capture the mystical essence of our game. This experience was not just about creating music; it was about weaving emotions and stories into our desert world, making the adventure feel alive and pulsating with magic. It taught me a lot about the emotional impact of music in games and how it complements the visual storytelling.

Transitioning into animation, bringing the dynamic desert environment and the magical creatures within it to life was a task I approached with great enthusiasm. Working on the animations, from the sand whirlpools to the various states of the day, challenged my creativity and technical ability in visual arts. It was a process that not only honed my skills in animation but also gave me a deeper appreciation for the art of visual storytelling in video games.

Overall, my involvement in "Fish & Chip" has been a multifaceted adventure filled with growth, challenges, and a lot of fun. I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this project and to work alongside a talented team. I look forward to seeing how players around the world embark on their mystical journeys in the deserts of "Fish & Chip," and I am excited for the future projects that await.

Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way, and to the players, I hope you find as much joy and wonder in playing our game as we did in creating it.
