Software used
Unity Engine, Audacity, Asesprite

Use of the limitation
We made a platformer game where when you press space, you jump or dash alternatively, so you gotta remember what the previous action was, can be challenging but also not so hard

Cookies eaten
None, too busy making the game to have breakfast :sob:

I like how you get stuck on a platform if you didn't use your dash with your last jump. Its the saddest thing to willingfully dash off of what your standing on 😔

The art and music is really cute!! I am unfortunately terrible at platformers and couldn't get past the first area, but it's really cute and fun!

Its good, the  control need polish.
I would oriented it the level design to a challenge of precition, one after another, rather than go back and foward by to collect the start.

Thanks for your feedback! There is a little delay of 0.3 seconds after the next action made by purpose, originally it was to debug because the jump wasn’t fully working and I kept it, but I realized too late that it’s a bit annoying.

the movement could use a little bit of work, but overall its pretty cool. nice job

Thanks for your feedback! As I said in multiple replies, there is a little delay of 0.3 seconds after the next action made by purpose, I realized too late that it’s a bit annoying.

Great idea :) I enjoyed the art. I thought the time between input was slightly frustrating, but the concept of being careful with the action you take was nice, wp :)

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! You can thank @blazing_crown (you can find him on discord) for the art! As I said in multiple replies, there is a little delay of 0.3 seconds after the next action made by purpose, I realized too late that it’s a bit annoying, originally it was to debug, because the jump wasn’t properly working and the instant action made the game lag and there was a fly exploit.

nice art! i liked the idea and how you incorporated the limitation! it was a little hard for me (i suck a little bit at platformer games) but good work!

Developer

Thank for your feedback! We had this solid limitation idea from the start and it absolutely helped, for the art, you have to fully thank @blazing_crown (you can meet him via discord), he’s really really good.

The game was purposely made a bit challenging, because it’s really short, otherwise it would be totally boring, and the added stars to collect (absolutely optional and useless) also adds a bit of difficulty.

The main idea is good. But I think it could be tweak a little more, maybe make it so you can only dash while on the air, and jump only if you on the ground instead of making it interchangeable. Just my opinion.

Developer

Yep, this is definitely a great idea, it was purposely made like this to respect the limitation even more, and to make it a bit more challening, thanks for your feedback!

I'd say the concept is pretty obvious, but it still satisfies the limitation.

I think the controls could be made more responsive and an indicator of whether the next action is a jump or a dash.

Anyway, well done!

Developer(+1)

The choice of not making an indicator of whetever the next action is was made by purpose, and the reason the controls aren’t 100% responsive was implemented to avoid instant actions and possible bugs, in facts, there is a delay of exactly 0.3 seconds after you jump or dash, if you dash, then jump and dash again, the velocity accumulated is a bit too much overpowered. Thanks for your feedback!

Nice game, music was a nice choice, solid art, and fairly bug-free, though I did encounter some sort of invisible wall in the second area just past the checkpoint. I also would have created two different sounds for jumping and dashing, just to seperate them a bit. Great work!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback! The sound was one of the main problems of ours, we created it literally the last 2-3 hours before building the game, there are many known bugs that sadly I, (the programmer) couldn’t fix in time, but after a playtest, I can say it’s atleast completable without too much issues.

If this game reaches a good place in the jam, we are planning on a future remake maybe!

edit: I realied you may be talking about the “cave entrance”, it was made by purpose, basically you spawn in that cave, you go outside, and that sign is there just to say “you have been inside a cave till now”, so ofcourse it makes no sense to go back in there!
