Having temporary powerups alongside more sparse permanent ones is a stroke of genius in terms of managing the difficult balance of fun and difficulty. Check out my review of your game at https://www.twitch.tv/scalphamission

Thank you for playing ! Glad you enjoyed it.

In the original concept draft I did have some sort of currency shop in mind but I scraped it in early dev phase since there wasn’t a feasible time to implement it in 3 days.

There actually IS a boss at round 15 ! If you ever play my entry again in the future in your free time , hope you find the boss enjoyable.

Thanks for all the feedback,

I’m actually planning to do a "casual patch" to flesh out round 4 to 9 since some people have pointed out that although the difficulty is great, the rounds can be a bit too long in the later stages if RNG doesn’t hand them one or two extra buffs.

Juicy, beautifully cute and fun! Well done!

Thank you for this juicy comment !

I died in round 11. My strategy was to have a 3-way Gun, focus on dodging bullets, and wait for the "Buff Storm" to come. That was fun!

Developer(+1)

Not bad ! Thanks for playing the game.

My preferred strategy is getting Guns 2 early, chose PewPew until rank 3 then choose the +2 Guns after round 12. I just really love fast shooting.

Very well made game, with a developed upgrade system, feels good to play.

Thank you for playing !

Awesome game! Very enjoyable, I especially like how you mixed the background with what I assume are like GIF sprites, it gives a really cool effect I haven't noticed before! My favorite part was how satisfying it was "popping" an enemy which comes from the use of very solid sound and visual effects. The visual elements are top notch and I like the simplistic HUD on the side of the screen. Fantastic job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and enjoying the game !

 If you’re curious ,

the only animated parts of the background are the planets, gas giants or black holes, you can import a gif into aseprite and export a sprite sheet from the. All other elements are simply scrolling and ressetting position once at midpoint and making sure everything is seemless , the background stars actually randomizes once they reset. The asteroids are just rotating and falling slowly ^^"

Thank you again for the nice comment !

Wow thank you!

Great game! I'm a fan of these type of bullet hell games so this was very fun to play. For me my biggest problem was how long the rounds were. While the game is fun, the rounds take slightly too long with no variation in enemies. I'm glad you put a boss at the end because it definitely made the wait worth it. Great job on this!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the feedback !

Yeah I might tweak the game a bit especially the beginning part, otherwise I like the progression. I do agree about the enemy types tho, I simply didn’t have the time to really come up with original archetypes and implementing them in gameplay (balancing, all the boring stuff).

Again thanks for the feedback.

This is a really well done game, pretty solid. If anything I'd encourage you to make your own art the next time, (programmer art has it's own charm!) but I get it if art isn't your cup of tea. I think the only comment I have is I would have put the boss a bit sooner to be sure people are able to enjoy all of your content. Remember that it's a game jam and we can't assume people will play our game more than a few minutes, there are dozens to play after all!

Developer

Thank you for playing !

Yeah making art isn't really my cup of tea and from experience I lose alot of time making them that I'd rather focus on the game itself and flesh out all the bugs and playtesting it properly (I'm really more of a coder then a designer or artist really).

The boss came into the design in later stages of the draft, the concept was that the player would fill the emptyness the more they progressed with a 3 round formula. The boss fight Idea was just too cool to pass up so I had to design and implement it on the last sprint

This game is definetly really polished, but i have a few things to say:

First of all, this isn't really my type of game, so just keep that in mind while reading this comment. But i think the while the overall graphics and gameplay are good, the idea isn't the most creative and so i already know a lot of these kind of games. A cool twist would make it way better i think. Also, the sound effects and music got a bit annoying after some time, but like i said, the graphics are perfect. I hope my feedback helped you a bit, and if you have a bit of time, maybe check out my game too. Thanks! :)

Developer

Thank you for playing even if it wasn't your cup of tea.

Game played on stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/asfunasfun

I really enjoyed this game. It is very addicting and I quickly fell into the “zone”. I spaced out and just mindlessly killed little waves of aliens. Good job. Looks good and plays really well.

Developer

Hoped onto your stream and I wasn't expecting you to play my game , Thank you so much for the comment
Happy that you enjoyed your time , Round 11 is pretty good !

Man, what a fun game! I have a deal to offer you: make a mobile game of it and i’ll play it a lot!

You got a follower!

Please, check my game too! I will really love to know your feedback!

Developer(+1)

Thank you , I'll definitely go check it out in a bit definitely.

I'm flattered about making a mobile game but I way too new to mobile dev to try it out,

Mobile it’s not so hard! Just figure out where the finger should be and you are good to go!

This game is truly difficult BUT the progression feels very nice, the graphics are neat and the gamefeel.is quite good! I saw the comments below and I agree, in fact. You're in time if you want to upload this as a game playable in browser, more people would enjoy this! Nice entry, if you did this in 3 hours. You rock

Developer(+1)

Thanks alot for the kind words ! But no I definitely  failed that 3 hours challenge by quite a long shot ^^" I simply don't like leaving projects unfinished. I'm actually quite afraid of how a web version would perform but I think i'll actually take up on your idea.

Awesome game btw, liked it, I still need to play more of it I couldn't get that far into it because of schedule.

As Duck already said: This game is extremely underrated. It's a shame that people see "EWW, Not playable in browser" and just skip the game (this is why nobody plays my game too...). And this game here deserves way more attention.

Graphics are great and fit together well. Small details like chaning background does the trick. The game is really satisfying and it may be that one game in this jam that I played the longest time. But the best thing for me is probably the pretty good difficulty curve. I never had the feeling to get overwhelmed by the amount of enemies nor was it too easy. The difficulty increased in a smooth way so that you just never have a negative feeling about playing the game. And THAT is what you see in only a veeeeery few games that are submitted in any jam!

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Thanks alot for the kind words ! Two things I wanted coming into this project was actually Fun and Replay Value so your comment actually makes me quite happy.

I actually sent alot of early buggy prototype as part of the "Tri - Jam" to friends so they could QA the "feel" of the game, so I had alot of reports of minor bugs or criticism I could take into account before the deadline. Some exemple of things I did if you’re interested were :

- idle animation to the ennemies so we could notice them more in the later levels while the shots are overwhelming

- removed some slight player drift (weird design in my part)

- buff duration

- bug fixes OMG hindsight really is 20/20

So really I should thank my friends for helping me fresh out this game ^^ This is easily my best game so far even if it’s just in 72 hours thanks to their feedback.

Thank you again for playing !

This game is AWESOME! It is super underrated, i really love the bullet hell type of game, i really like how the difficulty increases over time, i really like how you can choose your own upgrades. There is really nothing negative about this to say, maybe the sound effects can get a bit annoying after a time but for a game that was made in 3 days this is just awesome! :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

thank you for playing ! Happy that you enjoyed it.

Managed to finish the boss ? I’ll admit I’m not that good at my own game, took me awhile ^^"
