I love how items have randomly generated names! You absolutely nailed the feel of hitting a chest and a bajillion things popping out. :D Great work!
Thank you very much for your comment! Yeah, I was going for that feeling indeed.
Once I saw the screenshots, I knew this would be an interesting entry. I love the wacky concept and gameplay pace. It feels quite good to move around, with just enough sound effects. Level generation was smooth too! Only thing I can say to improve on is that I wasn’t sure what impact thieves were making when they hit me. It might have helped to have a popup $$ number appear above the player instead of at the bottom because I would rarely look away from the center of the screen.
I got $150K as my score! Kept going for the gold items and the time bonuses. Great work, I’m sure it was a bunch of fun to make.
Hey! That is a great idea! True that the dialog was bit useless, but I was going for a more retro look with the pack and got there with the windows.
Sound effects… Meh, not amazing but is what I found in Kenney’s
Thanks for the feedback!
the chest mechanic is pretty dope!
very fun to play! It's simple but very addicting.
For feedback you could like make the ennemies faster and harder to dodge, sine you know you'ree stealing their stuff. Managed to pretty much run into none lol.
got a score of 90k at the end.
Nice work man^^
Yeah, I made them a bit slow right? Is because I though the throw mechanic was a bit hard to perform, but at the end that unbalanced the whole game. Thanks for the comments!!
So many cool aspects to this implementation. The random generation, the credit scroll with all the interesting item names. I liked the frenzied dash to get as many items as you could. I didn't really experiment much with the "defense" using the space, but the tutorial screens were a really really nice touch. I'm glad you had time to add that in.
I imagine you looking at the huge asset pack and thinking, "Why not use it all?" Haha. My only suggestion is to make the grass a slightly different tone to the trees. It was hard to tell them apart at times, and only one of them was passable :)
Thank you for the review. Is really appreciated.
You are spot on… I had all these juicy assets and I was weak, greedy… Hahaha.
The defense was throwing stuff to the thieves but you throw in the direction you walk so it was a very difficult mechanic. I just didn’t want to make the user to use the mouse. And colors… I was sticking to the palette of the assets, but that wasn’t enough. I must have created some color variations…
Again, thanks for the ideas!
ah the mechanic makes more sense now. Hopefully it throws a low value item as bait :P
Very engaging game. Awesome concept! Also laughed out loud while reading the description. 4096 cats? Holy fck hahaha. I hope you develop this game further.
xDDD I was trying to make a little story before the game to justify some things about this crazy idea… I’m very happy you liked the humor behind.
Certainly I will make a post jam edition with some really nice ideas the community has give me just for fun.
Again, thanks for passing by, it is really appreciated.
Really cool idea! The random gen is also very impressive. The camera movement could be reworked a little bit, it feels a bit unnatural and the movement feels too quick relative to it.
Thank you very much for the comments.
I was using Cinemachine by Unity for the camera. So I think I must adjust better the parameters there right? I will take that into account for future improvements.
Fun, fast passed game. Seemed like the thieves moved too quickly and I couldn't figure out the defense idea. The generation made a great map and I LOVED that end screen selling all your items.
The defense… That big unknown… You can throw items to the thieves but they get thrown in the direction you are looking at. That was a bad mechanic from my side… I was only trying to add some defensive power to the player. I must rethink how that goes.
Thank you for your feedback! I do really appreciate it.
This is a solid looting game and is well-polished! I love that it shows you all the items you looted and pawned at the end in rolling-credits, it was great. Random generation is awesome! There are times where it’s hard to keep track of things; for example, the green loot has the same color as the trees and grass, so it can be very hard to tell them apart. I feel that there is no motivation to use the throwing mechanic because it can only be done when moving in a certain direction, the item selection seems random (or by loot order which the player can’t track anyways) and the item’s value is halved. If I throw the item at the thief, he takes it, I essentially lose the full value of the item. If I throw the item away from the thief, I have a chance to regain half the value of that random item, but the thief is still chasing me. Throwing an item also doesn’t deduct your money correctly, and you get short-changed at the end; throwing an item actually removes the item from your inventory, it’s not counted at the end if you don’t pick it back up. Also the tutorial says to press “Space” but I had to press the left-mouse button instead. Also because of this, there are not much mechanics or things for the player to do to keep them engaged for multiple sessions, so perhaps adding features like allowing the player himself to steal things, would offer more interesting decision-making in the game.
Overall, this game can be quite addictive! I love the level generation and randomized exploding loot, had a lot of fun. Would love to see more things added in the future!
Woah, thank you for all those bugs! I will make sure they get repaired after the jam. But you basically nailed all the issues. With such a good review is easy to improve!
Is true replayability is poor with this setup and as you mention some new features will help the overall game experience in that sense. I also though on a leader board may push you to try to improve your score.
Anyway your comment is really appreciated railkill!
Cool concept and usage of the art assets! I managed to get 44640$, not bad, isn't it? ^^
It was really satisfying to loot and to dodge the opponents!
The overall polish of your game is great, you even made explanations at start, nice. The only thing missing for me was the animations, indeed, I would have like more animations on the characters.
Apart from that, I had a really good time on your game!
Thank you Edalbung! Really appreciated your comment.
You are right. Animation would have been great indeed. I finally end up spending about 24 hours and missed a lot of opportunities for building a bold looking thing. Certainly I do like animating, but this time I decided not to do it and focus on the generation stuff.
Thanks!
Very cool game to play! My highscore is 148K took me a while to realize that hourglasses add time to the countdown :D
Yeah, they were explained in the tutorial at the beginning but it is not clear at all. I will remake that after the jam ends.
Thank you for the feedback! Is really appreciated.
This game with its relatively short play sessions and non-stop moving makes it really addictive which is definitely a 5 star for engagement for me.
People are saying that generation was weird but I think that as long as there are no dead ends so that you can keep moving, it would suit the gameplay.
The level of polish is great but effects like screen shake could make it even more addicting!
And the ending of having the items scroll with their unique names and value is so clever and great to see!
Thank you! I love details…
And I certainly did missed some more FX. Death ends can happen because of some blocking objects in the way indeed. I did not created rules for separation between walls and other objects. That was another missing detail.
Thanks for the feedback.
Really fun game! My high score was 180K, which I'm happy with considering I didn't even land above 100K on any other runs, haha!
The chests are really satisfying to open. I couldn't ever get the "defense" mechanic to work - seemed like I was supposed to throw an item at the thieves, but it always throws in the direction I'm moving, which makes it really tough to aim (and probably ultimately a waste of valuable looting time). Being able to aim the mouse and throw items at thieves that way would probably have made it really engaging to try and ward off thieves.
I also really loved the scroll through of items at the end, although I did wish it was ordered by monetary value, so I could see how many awesome gold items I got all at once.
I kept running into trees because they were the same green color as the loot, I think I probably wouldn't have used green as a loot color, just to make it super clear that green = obstacle, but it does add a degree of nuance to pathing, so it could go either way.
All in all, I really enjoyed playing it! Awesome work!
Hey Shovel, thanks for the nice feedback much appreciated. You nailed it! And ordering the loot crossed my mind at some point but finally choose chronological order… For completeness I may implement these fixes after the jam.
Really good job.
Thank you!
The mechanics were fun and engaging, I felt the player was a bit too floaty for my preferences. Also, it seems there were some slight issues with generation, many times loot would be inaccessible.
Fully agree. Generation is a messy all in one script a bit more time developing it would have been great. Thanks for the comment.
Same as Manatee - the exploding chests were super satisfying. I think I got pinned between a thief and the wall at one point but got free somehow eventually
That can indeed happen in the depths of procedural maps. I could have added better rules for spawning, true…
Cool game! It had a lot of nice details and it was satisfying seeing the chests explode into loot and the lighting was cool. I liked the scrolling of the items I stole after the game over, was a nice touch. Also this game had the best tutorial out of the whole jam so far, so kudos! The gameplay was a bit basic but eh can't have it all
Thank you! Indeed, I was more focused on learning some technical things than to develop a better game play.
yes and I dont think that is necessarily a bad thing as you only have so much time to do things in a jam. The positives more than make up for it!
Nice game.
Thanks!
