Really cool idea, game runs smoothly and looks professional!

I would've liked to see some variety in enemies to spice up the gameplay a bit but it's understandable in a game jam.

The game was fun, the use of the art kit is super clean, if a bit obvious, though there’s a lot of neat little bits of polish, like the tank turret bobbing.

It’d be nice to know how far we have to protect the missile for.

Developer

As far as possible! it's an infinite scroller, like the chrome dino... Art's not my strong point but i'm glad you liked what i did with it. Thanks for playing, i'm glad you enjoyed it!

The game was fun but became repetitive after 2 km.And also my pc couldnt handle so many enemies :(

Submitted

Simple but fun, as others have said 1 or 2 more enemy types really could have spiced up and varied the gameplay, and the difficulty ramp-up could have been a bit quicker, as I didn't start having issues till around the 8km mark. The truck animation is nice too btw just thought I would leave some appreciation for that here too.

Fun game! Simple, engaging gameplay, had me hooked for a while!
More enemy types that made you vary your strategy would make for an even fuller experience, but it's still extremely fun as-is!

Great work!

Nice! It reminds me of a Game Boy game I played. The SFXs are perfect.

this isn't an easy game ahah

got a bit confused at start but got to understand after a bit^^.

umm i like what you did with the art kit and used a different color pallette.

was a bit hard, but hey i'm using a mousepad O_O

Good work!

I kinda like this game! It's pretty difficult imo (or maybe I'm just bad at the game), but I still think it's fun! It was a little hard to tell if the healthbar was for the tank or the truck at first, though, and I didn't realize that you could run over the enemies. The game was still fun though!

Solid Game! I had a lot of fun running people over with the tank. I also thought the difficulty ramp was good! perhaps it could be a tad faster.

One nitpick I have is that in the start screen you only see the truck (not the tank), so for the first couple playthroughs I though I was controlling the truck lol. Confused me for a bit.

Developer (1 edit)

Yep that intro screen was thrown together about 20 mins before the deadline. I realised after i looked back at the page and saw the gif of the intro that Tank is in the title, yet there's no tank on the title screen... Oh well!

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it

Wow very polished game! There's so much juice and the sound effects are great! The theme felt consistent through both art and sound.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I feel like i ran out of time when it came to adding more juice, but i was also conscious of not adding too many things like particle effects and shaders -i mainly wanted to recreate the feel of the old DOS games that i loved as a kid

Had a lot of fun with this. I'd love to play this in a level format instead of just endless. I hope you expand on this, you have a great base working here.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, i'm so glad you enjoyed it. I originally wanted to have levels, but this seemed a way to get the most out of the mechanic in 48 hours. There's actually a full procedural system there that loads in level chunks you progress. I had a vision of traveling through different areas, like forests, towns, cities, deserts, but in the end I only had time to make two level chunks so they just keep spawning in. Lesson learned about using my time wisely!

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm looking forward to continuing work on this after the jam

I really got an old DOS game feel from this for some reason...took me back to when I was but a wee wr41thx playing shareware!   Tanks for the memories comrade!

Developer (1 edit)

Amazing! I really had that in mind - those were the golden age of computer games in my opinion, and i really wanted to recreate the feeling of nostalgia i get thinking back to those times.

So happy to know i managed to make you feel the same way! Thank you for playing

Was very enjoyable squashing people! did that more than shooting i think :P

Developer(+1)

i did the same during my brief amount of playing that i did whilst making it.

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

I love how you have 2 ways of killing the enemies, makes it so you have to decide which way you will go about getting rid of them. Good game for 48 hours :)

Developer

Thank you so much for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it. That was my intention so i'm glad it comes across

Submitted(+1)

Good game if you're looking for some quick fun. I liked that you have to decide when to shoot and when to run over things since the ammo is limited. Here are some things I would improve:

  • The sound effects get a bit annoying after a while. Maybe use something lower in pitch?
  • Some cool action movie type music would be good for setting the mood of the game
  • When I'm controlling a tank I want to see big explosions :D

Good job. Had fun :)

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed! I agree with your points, especially as the sound was admittedly left to the last minute so i didn't get time to flesh it all out

Submitted(+1)

Very cool game! Good use of the assets pack. After a few minutes it gets a little slow but enjoyed it anyways :)

Developer

Thank you for playing, glad you enjoyed it! Certainly could have done with more balancing, you're somewhat at the mercy of the RNG so some play throughs are quite sedate, and others more hectic

Can't see windows version  O_O

Maybe later?

Developer

Please try again, I was just uploading a web version

Submitted(+1)

Very cool! Some reward when running over the troops and exploding the cars would be cool, maybe a score.

Congrats

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!
The idea was just to protect the cargo, the distance the transporter managed to travel before getting destroyed being your score. It tracks loads of stats but i ran out of time for the highscore page. You can still see them pring to the console or terminal when you die.

Submitted(+1)

Great game! I love the way everything looks and feels, on dying it just kinda ended, but other than that awesome game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yes depending on how far you got you may not be able to restart. I didn't notice the bug until after I published, as I wasn't very good at it and didn't get far enough!

Submitted(+1)

No problem! I did notice data print to the console when I died, it might just be a rouge if statement or something similar. Again, great game!

I got an error message about a missing .pck file when I tried to run the Windows version. I like the look of the screenshots, would like to try it out.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! and sorry, i'll re-upload the windows version as a zip with the pck file if that's not against rules?

Submitted

You can ask Miz, but seeing as it's broken, that will probably be OK.

Developer

I've re-uploaded the windows version with the missing .pck file. I'd love to hear your feedback!

Hey timbs85,  I got it working! I liked it as well, taking down enemies was pretty quick which was satisfying. I like there was one clear objective (defend the launcher), but is there an end goal or just survive as long as possible?

So the basics are good, I think you can add extra powerups, different types of enemies, and switch up the objectives every once in a while. The foundations of a really good game are here.

Overall, I liked it, and I think you can expand it!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks very much! I had a trello board with a lot of what you mentioned that got pushed further down the list as the deadline loomed.

I didn't have time to make distinct levels, so the goal became to survive as long as possible. I also ran out of time to add a high score, so it's not very clear as the intention. I'm planning on working on it further for after the jam

Thanks for playing!
