Amazing visuals, looks pretty stylish. The music sets the mood nicely and the story seems fun, hehe. But yeah, it's hard to play, so I failed a lot and mostly just tried to run away from my problems instead of fighting them (ah wait, I do that in real life, too. But this time I'm talking about enemies in the game xD)
Gameplay mechanics seem interesting, so with some balance this game might get really enjoyable to play. And I think your project fits "magical realism" theme pretty fine. (Although personally I would interpret it in more... symbolic way? But only because of how it was worded in gamejam's description).
Anyway, urban fantasy with goblin mafia is a cool setting :D
So... fun setting, badass story, amazing graphics. Good job!
As other already said, it's really difficult. But the visual are pretty and the music fits well. I'm not sure is magical realism though. With some balancing, it would be really really awesome but in the context of a jam, it's not always easy to do. So really good work !
Thanks for playing! Yes, we researched magical realism but it turns out it's a surprisingly difficult thing to pin down. After playing the other games, if we got it wrong many others did too, so at least we're not alone :-D
Man that music really got me ready to kick some goblin butt! Unfortunately, the opposite happened... a lot. But I like the concept, it seems like it could be a really fun game with a little balancing and maybe a tutorial or something (or maybe I just need to git gud lol). Nice work!
Thanks for playing! Indeed we need to start easier and ramp up the difficulty more slowly, as well as balance things better. We are working on improvements to be released after the jam voting.
The combat is interesting, but the skills take too much time and it leaves you without a combat option for a long time, and since there are no checkpoints, you have to go through that long text intro a lot. The art looks a bit over the place, since it's different art styles and resolutions. I think with more time, this has the potential of being a very interesting and fun game, hope you keep working on it after the jam. Congratulations :)
Thanks for playing! Yesterday it occurred to me why people think the card draw is slow. We start you out with Punch and Kick abilities but we do not explain them at all. Or how to swap abilities (You talk to Lee). The Kick ability does a good deal of damage for an early ability but it makes you skip your next card draw. So if you use 3 kicks in a row, you skip your next three card draws. It is intended to be a bad ability that the player will swap out as soon as possible, but we don't make this clear enough.
Ohhh, that makes sense and sounds pretty interesting! It'd be a good idea to explain it in game :)

Cons
Overall: really good work! Very nice visuals and setting!
Thanks for playing! Yes, we would have liked to do more balancing on the combat if there was time. As it stands, it is quite unforgiving indeed.
The gameplay is actually very fun. Though there's a bunch of text at the beggining, it definitely worth it when the action starts. Congrats!
Thanks for playing! Yeah, time constraints forced us to do cutscenes as just text.
